About Scott P Mayo
My name is Vivian Mayo and my husband of 40 years is Scott P Mayo. Scott and I are long time Alaskans with many tales to tell! (You may be interested in reading our survival story! www.lastfrontiermagazine ) I am proud to call myself a lifelong Alaskan! I was born in Anchorage Alaska and moved to Cantwell in 1964. Scott came to Alaska from the Midwest in 1970. He fell in love with the freedom of Alaska the moment he stepped off the plane. Scott and I married in 1975 and Have raised three wonderful children here in Cantwell. Scott worked 30 years for the State Highway Department retiring in 2008. 30 years of plowing snow was enough for him! Now let me tell you about the fun stuff...snowmobiling, ice fishing, winter and summer camping, hunting, fly fishing, four wheeling, gold dredging, we do it all and more. Scott and I are getting a little older and wider but we try not to let that stop us. Surrounded by the natural beauty and bounty of the area we feel blessed to fill our freezer with moose meat and pick blueberries for canning each fall.
Scott P Mayo purchased this Cabin in 1987
Why Scott P Mayo chose Cantwell
Scott and I have lived in a few different locations here in Cantwell. As a child I lived in the old town of Cantwell in a small trailer house. After Scott and I married we lived in a small log cabin without electricity or indoor plumbing. We had a hand pump for water. After we had the kids Scott bought me a gasoline wash machine! I had to pump three 5 gallon bucket of water to fill that washer up! I was one strong chick! In 1985 we sold our small cabin and decided to build a bigger home for our growing family. Scott with the help of some of our helpful neighbors and friends put the roof on the main cabin just before the snow flew in the winter of 1987. We have been modernizing and making improvements for the last 30 years. Even though Cantwell didn't have commercial power or TV until the mid-80s we have now caught up with the rest of the world. Modern technology is a wonderful thing but it is easy to forget to "log on"when you're surrounded by Alaska's beauty. We hope you enjoy the area as much as we do
What makes this Cabin unique
We live a simple life here. Coffee in the morning sitting on the porch swing listening to the birds and swatting a mosquito or two 😉. With Mountain view's, wildlife and the abundance Alaska has to offer we have almost everything we need right outside our door. Literally right outside our door! We have had moose (Matilda ,eating my flowers), caribou (eating my lawn) ,fox and a couple of young bears come through over the years. Scott and I hope you relax and enjoy your stay in our neck of the woods. And don't forget, 30 minutes away you have access to great restaurants, drinking establishments, gift shops, coffee shops, ice cream shop and all the outdoor activities and sightseeing Denali National park has to offer.

We really enjoyed our stay at Denali Mountain View Lodge. Everything we needed and more! The Mayo’s welcomed us like family and we enjoyed hearing about their Alaskan adventures. Truly inspirational!
Our first VRBO experience - this location would be highly recommended.
Vivian greeted us upon our arrival and gave us a tour as well as the house rules. We were only able to stay for 2 days but enjoyed our time immensely. The property is extremely clean and very well maintained. All the linens and towels were provided. It was perfect for our needs. We purchased groceries (in Anchorage) and ate in - and we had everything that we needed, including a BBQ and ice maker in the fridge. Vivian and Scott have done a fabulous job and this location is highly recommended.
We loved staying here! Such a great home and highly recommended.
Clean, nicely appointed, lodge feel, comfortable bedding, new appliances, plenty of seating and room
We would love to come back one day!
Wonderful Place to Explore Denali From
Scott and Vivian are great hosts and the house is lovely and well kept. We had everything that we needed, and some things, such as a grill, that we didn't stay long enough to take advantage of (just two nights). The beds were comfortable and there was ample space for the four of us to spread out. We will certainly stay here again the next time we visit the Denali area.
It was such pleasure making you and your families acquaintance Paul and we’re happy the cabin met your needs while visiting our beautiful state. Scott and I appreciate your kind words and glowing review of our little cabin in Alaska!
Beautiful Home to Rent
My group of eight rented this house and we really enjoyed our stay. The house is clean, well maintained, nicely decorated, and comfortable. The location is close to Denali National Park yet felt remote. We enjoyed our stay and the home owners were great to work with.
Pay us a visit at Denali Mountain View Lodge and enjoy the surrounding wilderness and pristine beauty of Alaska while relaxing away from the crowds. Travel 30 miles north of Cantwell and you will be in the tourist zone located just outside the parks entrance. With all the hustle & bustle, restaurants, bars, shopping, river rafting, air sightseeing tours. Denali National Park offers visitors a variety of tours and activities. The visitor center and the Murie Science and Learning Center are great family destinations. Add all of the outdoor activities and there is never a dull moment. If you're looking for something a little more relaxing...you can enjoy our local Cantwell activities. Sightseeing, hiking, guided fishing tours, riverboat rides, tours of Iditarod mushers dog yards and much more. And always be on the lookout for our local animal fare, moose, caribou, fox, lynx, wolves and bears. You never know when or where these magnificent creatures may appear. The Cantwell area is a stunningly beautiful setting just minutes away from the amenities of Denali National Park. With it's spectacular views of Mount Denali, the Talkeetna mountain range and Reindeer Mountain Range the location is hard to beat.
