About Bri Nelson
I've traveled the world and absolutely fell in love with Western North Carolina. Now as a home owner in the area, I want to share this special area with other travelers looking for a true getaway.
Bri Nelson purchased this Cottage in 2015
Why Bri Nelson chose Marshall
The Gatehouse is definitely unique. It's quiet and tranquil setting make it ideal as a writer's retreat or peaceful escape, and yet, it boasts a close-to-everything character that will appeal to the adventurer as well.
What makes this Cottage unique
Marshall is a mostly undiscovered gem in the area. It's near Asheville but has a special small-town riverside charm of its own. Surrounding Madison County is rich with outdoor beauty and adventure, culture and history. On my first visit to Marshall I said, "I'm going to live there someday."

We had a great time during our stay! The property was beautiful and it was very relaxing being in the mountain. It was about a 30 minute drive to Asheville and we had breakfast in the town of Marshall and the food was very good. We highly suggest this property!
We enjoyed our time at the Gatehouse!
Cutest little house up in the mountain! We had poor weather the first two days, which makes the drive up seem a bit precarious. First impressions are important and we came on a rainy evening which had me second guessing our choice. However the next three days were gorgeous and driving up and down was a breeze. Thanks for the accommodations, everything was just as we expected. The deck is fantastic. Only sorry we didn’t see any deer as other mentioned before us.
Comfortable house on a breezy hilltop with expansive deck and large fenced yard. The drive up the private road is a bit steep but you get the hang of it after the drive up. Secluded and private but close to grocery, shopping and tons of hiking, rafting, biking amd easy scenic drive down to Asheville along the French Broad River. Bri was very easy to work with. Would definitely stay again.
Thank you Tracy! I'm so glad you enjoyed your time; it is truly a unique setting and a sweet area to get away from it all. You were a wonderful guest and I would love to have you again. You're welcome any time to come back to our Madison County mountains :-)
Perfect get away!
This sweet little property has a great vibe. Well equipped kitchen, spotless rooms, wonderful deck. NO TV! Yay! Strong internet (not always true up in those hills). Yay! Close to Marshall and Hot Springs - we had a soak at the spa. Owner did a great job. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks, Bri!
A cozy, pet-friendly place ideally located -- remote and yet not!
This is a great place to come to if you have pets, dogs in particular. The fenced yard and the deck are quite spacious . We have a cat and she was immediately comfortable. It was quite nice to have ALL of the appliances including a dishwasher for such a reasonable rate! When there, you feel as though you are in a very remote, tranquil forest. But in reality, you are just 5 minutes from Ingles, the local supermarket and you are just 5 minutes from the lovely town of Marshall, 15 minutes from Mars Hill, just 20 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and about 25 minutes from Asheville. As regular visitors to the NC mountains, we seek out adventures other than the typical tourist sites. We found a very close-by out & back hike on the Appalachian Trail to the Rich Mountain Fire Tower and we often drove north on I 26 (west) away from Asheville to find good hikes in the Cherokee National Forest! We also highly recommend that all summer visitors reserve seats at whatever show is being played at the Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre (SART) in Mars Hill! We were absolutely blown away by the quality of the local production of Bright Star, a Broadway musical written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell.
