About Pat DeMeo
Tony & Pat DeMeo moved to S. Lanc. Co. 30 years ago to raise their children in the country. Tony, an Italian Stonemason, came from St. Agnes Church in West Chester and Pat was from St Thomas the Apostle in Glen Mills, Pa .Pat was a court stenographer at the Delaware Country Court House, Media, for years. We were thrilled beyond belief to purchase the 70 acres of farm and woodland on the Octorara Creek. It was our dream to build a beautiful stone home, an authentic reproduction, for our children. Tony, with the help of his brother in law Rick DiStefano, began this labor of love, to build his dream home right here. Tony then restored the old stone barn foundation by hand and rebuilt the barn/loft over a period of several winters with his stonemason crew. A few years ago, Our oldest son Anthony and is wife Laurel finished off the inside of the loft. They stayed here just long enough to figure out they wanted to live in Montana, raise their family in BIG SKY, yes, Montana. . So we are now opening up this marvelous little spot to vacation bound people to come and share in the beauty of this peaceful country place. Old Tony and his crew also restored the crumbling stone springhouse. Tony and his crew built the 2 stone walls that cross over the small stream as you enter the farm. We would love to enjoy our place with guests as we plan to retire from the stone masonry business in a few years. We have managed to sneak away from our busy chores of the business and the 4 children who all played sports at Solanco High School, to explore, trial by error, to help all you interested guests with our "learn the hard way" special spots. Amish antique shops with amazing, stuffed to the max, furniture that is not on line. OMG Super little fresh produce stands, amish buggies, water sports on the Chesapeake Bay, so much to see and do, you can't do it all in one trip.
Pat DeMeo purchased this Chateau / Country House in 1985
Why Pat DeMeo chose Nottingham
We wanted to move away from the congestion of Chester County and live in the country where we could see deer, have a creek nearby, plenty of hills for sledding and yet be close enough to the major highway to get back in to work and our families. This property gave us all that we were looking for and more. The area has built up significantly since we came out here, traffic now starts in Oxford., Pa. We even have a Wallmart now. Yet at night the stars shine down and at first light at sunrise, we always feel like we did move away to the perfect place, to the country, to enjoy our life. It's our Journey's End. From here at the peaceful loft, you can pack a cooler with drinks and snacks and head out for day trips to Hershey Park, Washington DC, Gettysburg, Philadelphia, Longwood Gardens, Winterthur Museum, MUSHROOM capitol of the World, Kennett Square, MD Famous Blue Shell CRABS and the Chesapeake Bay are all close by. The Bald Eagles at Conowingo Dam, MD. Big attraction in the fall. We are right on the Susquehanna River near Muddy Run State Park. Elk Neck State park has a beautiful sandy beach resort for all the little kids. Lots of great food all around for sure. Crabs and more crab shacks. McGregors, down on the river is fabulous. This area has just too much to do in one trip for sure. Up N. In Lancaster County, you could be gone all day and not cover all there is to do. Dutch Wonderland, Sight and Sound Theater, American Music Theater, ... My kitchen chalk board has a basket with just a few brochures for activities here in Lancaster County. Shoo Fly Pies, amazing Shady Maple Market!!! Shady Maple Smorgasboard. BUT BY FAR, my personal favorite place is Carl and Carol Groff's Plant farm in Kirkwood, PA. People come in Casino Buses from New Jersey just to fill up the bottom of the bus with flats, flats and more flats of Old Mr. Groff's fabulous plants. I, Pat DeMeo, am surely their most patronizing customer for sure. My garden was 1st prize one year.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Come and unwind, get away from the hustle and bustle, the stress that binds you. Come and sit on the porch and slow down. Night time here is heart warming for sure. The only light you see comes from our main house below. Its far enough away to be welcomed and pretty. Sunrise in the morning, comes right in the kitchen window. Sometimes our dog Ranger might wonder up to see if you let him in. Below, hiking distance is a small sandy beach on the Octorara Creek where locals like to picnic on warm summer days. Just beyond the loft apt., over the field and down through the woods, you can sit and see 1/4 mile of the Octorara creek with all it's wonders, birds, wildlife, and peace of mind. The Stone Barn and its property were an amazing getaway. It is immaculate and everything is provided
The Stone Barn and its property were amazing! It is a secluded getaway to relax and enjoy solitude yet close enough to the waterfront (Havre de Grace) to enjoy everything a town has to offer. The Barn is immaculate and everything is provided for you. Pat was a gracious host and made sure we had everything we needed. There is a beautiful fire pit, chairs, hammock and rockers outside to enjoy both day and night. Looking forward to enjoying it again in the winter time to use the large fireplace! Could not have asked for anything better...
