Not as advertised in photos - "spectacular condo"

Driving into the Golden Sands, we thought we were in Las Vegas or Reno!

Kind of "casino looking".

For our first vacation in over 5 years due to health issues, this was a major disappointment. We almost didn't stay, wanting to speak with someone immediately but the person at the desk wasn't able to help us.

I don't know if the owner is paying a cleaning team fee, but if they are, they are getting majorly ripped off!

I cannot tell you WHEN the toilet was cleaned last. Ugh!

The unit in general was NOT spanking clean, which is what we expect when we rent a place. There are rugs on most of the floors, which is NOT good in a beach place with sand and water. Leads to sand build-up and mildew type odors. (which were present)

The two couch and loveseat units were old, and all the cushions stunk. They need to be replaced. We ended up not sitting on them without having our beach towels laid over them. Between the rugs and the cushions, there was a major disgusting odor of gym and mildew.

While trying to shower, we ended up in shin-deep dirty sudsy water because the tub drain is blocked. Another "ugh"!

The whole condo is back from the 70's and 80's. If it were clean, that wouldn't be the biggest problem. But extremely dated.

The furniture on the balcony doesn't fit. They've placed a wicker loveseat on the balcony but you have to crawl over it to sit in it. Which is a shame because the VIEW is fabulous.

But you can't sleep in the VIEW, and you can't bathe in the VIEW, so it's a very sad point.

We will not rent anything again from Home Away because you just can't tell what you're getting until you get there.

We'll be sticking to the Hilton, Wyndham, and Holiday Inn home suites because at least you have some idea of what to expect. And at least you get regular cleaning people who come in on an almost daily basis.

At this place, who knows when it had a good scrubbing last?

And there's a front desk person at the above places, who can at least do something to alter your bad time if you're having one.

So, no, this was not the "spectacular condo" on the beach. This condo building is one of the very oldest in OC. So, know before you go.

Golden Sands is one of the most popular buildings in Ocean City but the units are individually owned and do not provide hotel services such as maid service or front desk help; that is not something that any condominium complex is able to provide. Your welcome email before you arrived was specific about letting you know that the front desk could not handle any issues relating to the unit and to call our office with any concerns or questions so that we may be of help to you. The front desk is only there for parking issues. You can see from prior reviews that they all express the cleanliness of this unit and the same people clean that unit each week. Had you contacted us, we would have called the cleaning company and they would immediately send someone back out as well as a maintenance crew for the tub. We really strive to make sure that our guests have a wonderful vacation but if we don't know the problems, we cannot solve them. Again I am so sorry that you were disappointed and wish I had had the opportunity to address your concerns for you. Ann

Small but clean with a perfect view

I would give it 4 stars as it was clean and we really enjoyed our stay. But the furniture was old and i had a problem with reaching the management company over our weekend stay as we did not have WiFi for the duration of our stay which was a big problem for me as i had to do some work over the weekend.

wonderful Stay

Very impressed with how clean the condo was and that the bathroom and Kitchen looked fairly new- The staff was very friendly and the Grounds were kept clean throughout the day by the staff- Had a wonderful time! I will definitely return again next year and recommend to anyone - The only negative was the long wait on Saturday for an elevator due to check ins and check outs - overall recommend to others =

We are also planning on doing some painting this winter just to freshen things up. We also have purchased a brand new sofa for the living room which should be delivered in early October. We are happy to hear the unit was cleaned and I will certainly contact our cleaning company to let them know you were pleased.
