From making the reservation to the day of arrival Jan and Judy we're available to answer questions in preparation for our arrival.Jan met us at the dock in Newbor and we followed him to Skulls Island that was only a 5 minute boat ride. Bring your clothes and food and everything else is waiting for you Jan and Judy have done their due diligence in thoughtfully preparing the cabin for your arrival. Anything you could possibly need/want is there, the cabin is very clean and extremely well maintained. The adirable galley kitchen is fully stocked with appliances, cookware and utensils. The stove, oven, toaster oven and microwave are very clean. There's even an ice machine and hot/cold water machine. Bath towels are plentiful, bed linens are quality and mattresses are comfortable. The shower is clean and has very good water pressure. The pictures of the cabin do not due it justice. The cabin has knotty pine floors, walls and open rafer ceilings. The stone fireplace has a pellet stove insert that we used 2 days when it was chilly. There is plenty of seating around the dining room table for 8 and the living room has 2 loveseats. The cabin has windows all the way around that open to allow the gentle breeze in. The rear deck has a table and chairs where we relaxed while cooking on the grill. There's even a screened in gazebo with seating to sit and relax. The fire pit has chairs and there's even a hammock in the trees!
We stayed for 2 weeks (9/1/18-9/15/18) and we loved every second! We took our fishing boat and my husband caught an average of 50 fish/day. You must ride the water bikes, they're soooo much fun! There are kayaks, a canoe, inflatable island and foam island to enjoy as well! The docks are permanent and not floating for those of us who get motion sick!
We originally ordered Lock Passes but they never arrived. We were prepared to purchase a pass upon arrival. However, the fishing was so great, my husband decided to stay on the surrounding lakes near Newboro. Small and Largemouth Bass, Pike, Pumpkinseed and Perch are plentiful. The water is crystal clear and we spent many hours swimming and floating in the 76* water. The water is easily accessible from various areas of the island.
The island is very well maintained. There are little paths to walk and explore. The sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking!
We've traveled from Pennsylvania to Canada for almost 30 years and have stayed at lots if great places but Skulls Island is by far the best!
Stayed August 25th to September 1st 2018
We had such a wonderful time staying on Skulls Island. The scenery is breathtaking. The island is so peaceful and relaxing. We had nice weather for our stay. We made use of the kayaks, and water bikes and went fishing around the lake in our boat. We caught close to 50 fish. Several bass over 5 lbs. and two pike 31 inches and 28 inches with several others over 25 inches. There is a lovely gazebo to sit and enjoy the outdoors and two decks to relax on. Just being able to sit and read a book and watch the boats go by was so nice. The best part of the stay was being able to take our dog with us. He is very large at 125 lbs. so it's not always easy to take him. But he had the run of the island and was in the water swimming every day! Sometimes at 6 a.m.! Jan and Judy are so nice and they think of everything you need for a nice stay. They are friendly and helpful yet leave you in to your own devices to enjoy the quiet! If you like nature and want peace and quiet this is the place. The only downside was having to leave to go home at the end of the week!! We will be recommending this to our friends and family and plan to return again soon!! Thank you Jan and Judi for sharing your little piece of paradise with us!!

Rustic charm with all the amenities.
The pictures are lovely but don't even come close to doing this spot justice! There is not one single thing I could think of that could improve this fantastic get away. The cottage is lovely and spacious. The owners have thoughtfully provided for everything you could want and more, inside and out. The views are stunning and the water toys provided make enjoyment of the lake complete. My entire family loved this spot and hope to make it a yearly tradition.

Life IS better at this lake island getaway!!
We couldn't have been happier with our decision to try something new and book a getaway at Skulls Island. Jan and Judy were extremely friendly and helpful from initial booking, to pre-trip questions, to a warm welcome at our arrival, all the way through our departure for home. The cottage is rustic and cozy but spacious with modern touches in the kitchen and bathrooms. They provide everything you need for great meals and a comfortable stay, including good quality towels and linens and special touches like a spring water cooler and ice machine! Use of the boat house and fun "toys" like water bikes and a blow-up island made for fun times and great memories. The lakes were as gorgeous as ever - we soaked them up with coffee and reading on the dock (just steps from the front door!), dinner with a stunning view on the back patio and swimming and tubing around the corner. And the fishing was awesome as usual. My husband caught a 5 lb, 5 oz small mouth bass this trip - the biggest fish of his life, and he's been coming up for over 30 years! For anyone hesitant to stay on an island, the municipal docks are just a two-minute boat ride away, and the parking rates were very reasonable. This was a trip we will never forget, and we hope to make this our new family tradition/destination!
Couldn't have had a better trip, one for the ages.
