A week in the Limousin
The gite was as described on the website.
Communication very prompt and accurate from the owner.
A very nice converted farmhouse well cared for by the owner who was onsite for assistance if needed. Useful information and maps in the house which helped as it was our first visit to the area.
We enjoyed trips to the local town of Cussac, cycling to the Voie Vert and surrounding villages and also a very nice local walk around the Forest with interesting resistance hideouts.
The children enjoyed the swimming pool and serving mum and dad at the outdoor bar.
Hi, thanks so much for your review, it means a lot to me. Hope to see you all again soon in the near future. Kind regards Ruthie.
A Stunning House in a beautiful area
A wonderful stay in the Limousin / Dordogne area.
The house as pool are as per the pictures, a truly stunning property to stay and relax at. The house is beautiful and the outdoor areas are perfect for long hot days and drinks in the evening. The pool is larger than it looks in the photos and the area around it perfect for lazy days. The setting is exceptionally peaceful and the surrounding countryside completely unspoilt. We took bikes and whilst the terrain is hilly, you can cycle to 3 castles within a 15 mile ride.
Brantome and the lake at St. Estephe were great days out, the latter of which offered free kayak use. Some of the surrounding villages were also very pretty.
A big thank you to the owner, who gave great info and help.
Ruthie's property is an idyllic place to stay. It feels so much more than a 'just' a holiday rental property. The house is beautifully furnished with exquisite attention to detail - there are interesting object d'art and beautiful furniture pieces in every room and the beds are extremely comfortable. The pool is perfect. It is big enough to swim in and even large enough for a family of four (including two strapping teenagers) to be in it splashing around together, even with three of us on li-lo's. There is ample seating around the pool, all of which is comfortable and there are lots of seating options - in or out of the shade. In fact, if you don't want to eat in the house, there are two fantastic outdoor seating areas - one with it's own bar and refrigerator. Our only complaint is that it was too comfortable to leave and go exploring! We did manage to prise ourselves away from the pool to go for a fabulous lunch at Le Relais De Gorre which was ridiculously good value and very delicious and only a ten minute drive away. We drove into Limoges one evening (30 minute drive) for a lovely stroll around the city and experienced the best gourmet burgers we've ever eaten at Le Bistrot de la Femme A Barbe. And always wonderful to come back to Ruthie's house. I kept thinking how wonderful it would be for honeymooners, or even for two couples, as well as for families. The house manages to be cosy and comfortable but spacious at the same time. Ruthie lives on site in an apartment next door but we only saw her if we were up early enough in the morning when she quietly cleaned the pool. When we did see her, she was absolutely gracious and charming and gave us lots of tips for places to go. If only we had more time! After a week here, we moved on to another property further South, which wasn't half as nice as Ruthie's and we wished we'd spent longer there! Thank you for a wonderful week and you may well see us again in the future.
Hi, thank you so much for your review, it means a lot to me. It was lovely meeting you all. I hope to see you again. Regards Ruthie.
The Perfect Getaway
What a great time had by all! The whole family had a fantastic holiday in this luxurious 17th century farmhouse! The pictures don't do the place justice - it's even more beautiful when you're there! A quiet location but just a few minutes from shops, bars and restaurants. A great set up for the kids too with plenty to do and see in the area. The pool was marvellous and well-kept by the owner, Ruthie, who lives (discreetly) on site but is always on hand if you need her. We look forward to seeing you again next year Ruthie! Thanks again for making it such a wonderful experience.
Beautiful luxurious house in a stunning t
We have just returned from a weeks stay at Ruthie's beautiful home.
Everything about the house is luxurious and Ruthie has obviously put a lot of time and thought into it and this shows in everything from the furniture to the fabulous location.
The house is not only beautiful, but comfortable and practical with a master bedroom suite to die for.
The weather wasn't the seasonal norm whilst we were there but we did enjoy relaxing by the pool and lay on the sunbeds one evening to watch the stars come out...
The surrounding area offers lots of activities to occupy all ages. We highly recommend a trip to Lac de St Pardoux with everything from pedlos, a man made beach to a 'Go Ape' type thing with a zip wire that goes across the lake... twice! Brilliant fun for any age group as they have several different courses from toddlers upwards. We also rented bicycles in Chalus and cycled along the old train tracks and went to the market at Piegut Pluviers The Chateaux at Montbrun is a pretty spectacular sight and has a great pub/restaurant directly opposite.
Ruthie was a very friendly host and we felt very welcome. She has great local knowledge and nothing was too much trouble.
The only tip that we would suggest is that if you want to eat out in the evenings, particularly at the weekend, we would recommend that you book.
Beautiful, luxurious holiday home
We had a wonderful holiday in Negrelat. The house was beautifully furnished and decorated, and the surroundings were just gorgeous. Ruthie was a superb and welcoming host -- respected our privacy and was thoroughly professional in all aspects. Highly recommend this property and fabulous location for exploring this stunning area. Tons to do for young families including the Adventure Parc, St Mathieu lake activities and cave art in Montignac. Had a fab time!
