Enjoying this wonderful beach with a choice of sun or shade. Read the review written by someone from VRBO!
VRBO stayed here - 07/08/2012 Mr. Bear and I decided to spend our long-overdue honeymoon in the relaxed town of Rincon, Puerto Rico. We were pleasantly surprised by the owner of Casa Serena, who took the time to describe the town and property in advance to ensure it met our expectations. She also provided us with maps, a list of restaurants and the necessary instructions to ensure we had a great stay.
Upon arrival, we could not believe the true proximity of the house to the beach – literally steps from the backyard gate! The crashing waves could be heard through the large screened windows – a constant reminder that we were on vacation even when we were indoors!
We feasted on the ripe mangos from the tree in the backyard, swam in the relaxing warm waters, and went snorkeling at the nature reserve just on the other side of town. Rincon and its surrounding areas have a lot to offer, but having Casa Serena as our “den away from home” made all the difference in the enjoyment of our stay.
Located in a residential neighborhood, Casa Serena is ideal for the laid-back bear who wishes to embrace the authentic Puerto Rico experience. (This picture is the almond tree just outside the backyard gate.) the photo and review are on the VRBO listing
for Casa Serena
Area: Rincon is a fishing village and a great beach town on the west coast, where the Atlantic Ocean and The Caribbean Sea meet. We are on the calm, warm, Caribbean side of Rincon
It is casual, not touristy.
It's a great place to come to get away from the big city, relax, swim, watch sunsets, go sightseeing, and relax. You don't need a car but it is useful. Near our house is a large supermarket, bakeries, take out food and the town of Rincon with stores, the town square, churches, video stores, and more, all within walking distance. It's just a short walk to some restaurants and a short ride to many more.
Swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, other water sports, sailing, fishing and kayaking. sight-seeing, tennis, golfing, and varied restaurants are nearby. Wonderful sight-seeing includes a beautiful waterfall, the biggest radio telescope, Camuy Caves, zip line and bio-luminescent bay.
Extra maid service and babysitting are available. Food shopping is nearby. We are convenient to three airports or we can arrange airport pick-up
Have an active day doing all the things Rincon has to offer or just lie on the beach, walk for miles, beachcomb, read a book, sunbathe and relax. Come and Enjoy!

About Nancy Renee
My mom and her friend, two teachers, went on a vacation together, travelling around Puerto Rico. When they discovered Rincon, they fell in love with it and decided to come back with their husbands. The two couples had discovered their perfect Caribbean refuge. They looked for a house on a calm beach and found this one in the perfect location. They bought the house, totally gutted it, rebuilt it and spent winters here together. After my mother brought me in on the secret, we decided to build Casa Tamara next door. The two couples vacationed at Casa Serena as much as they could and eventually started renting it when they weren't there. The other couple loved Rincon so much that they moved to Rincon permanently when they retired. When my husband and kids and I went to Rincon the first time, it was love at first sight! We fell in love with the laid back atmosphere and friendliness of everyone in Rincon. It offered something for everyone; my daughter likes to sunbathe and swim and relax in our back yard, my son likes all kinds of water sports, my husband and I like to try all the new restaurants, relax and do some sightseeing. A number of years ago, I took over the rentals and truly enjoy spreading the message of this very special vacation town.
Nancy Renee purchased this House in 1990
Why Nancy Renee chose Stella
My mom was early to discover Rincon and really found a house in the perfect location. We are on the best beach for swimming and since it is in a residential community, it is not filled with tourists, so most of the time the only people on the beach are the people renting the houses along the beach. It is almost like having a private beach and yet we are close to a supermarket, shops, restaurants and a short walk down the beach from a small family hotel with a beach bar, restaurant and equipment rentals. If you anyone wants to surf, it is a short drive to the surfing beaches.
What makes this House unique
Besides the best location in Rincon, our homes have other unique advantages. We have a fenced in garden yard, great for children to runaround and play without you being worried that they will run right into the water and also great for sunbathing or reading in our lounge chairs and hammocks. Our homes are not built right up to the houses on both sides, there is a private driveway for off street parking for each rental. AND it is a short walk to Villa Cofresi, with beach bar and restaurant and rentals of kayaks, jet skiis, paddle boards etc. And 3 blocks to the supermarket and a few restaurants and shops. Really the best location.

Great location!!! on the beach walking distance to everything.
Perfect location, safe area close to restaurants, stores and bakeries. Could use some updating, will definitely be staying here again.
House is right on the beach, with a large fenced yard.
Nice house. Well equipped kitchen. The ocean is right outside the fenced back yard. The sunsets are beautiful, coffee on the veranda in the mornings.
Thanks for trusting that our home, our beach and our beautiful town of Rincon are back! Thank you for your appreciation of our home, our beautiful back yard and our fantastic sunsets. I hope you will come back and recommend us to your friends and family. We need to spread the word that Rincon is up and running and needs visitors to bring the economy back. Thanks very much.
My best wishes,
Enjoyed our stay at Casa Serena!
Just returned from a lovely vacation in Rincon, PR. I had booked the trip before hurricane Maria hit the island and decided not to cancel my plans, because I knew that by February, Rincon would be needing tourists to come back again. And besides that, I love going to Rincon each winter.
There were three of us staying at the Casa Serena, including my 85 yr old mother. It was our first time staying at the Casa Serena. Originally, we were booked into a different house which we have frequented over the years, but due to nearby construction disturbances, the owner advised us to not use their house at that time. So, I found nearby Casa Serena to be available for the same dates. The owner, Nancy, was very accommodating for our last minute change of plans.
We had seen photos on the website of the palm trees in the garden, but Maria had wiped those out. However, Nancy has made sure that the garden and patio are in tip top shape for guests. The lawn is finished, there are ample chairs and chaise lounges to choose from to relax and soak in the beautiful view of the ocean. We saw some amazing sunsets from the garden most evenings as we sipped wine and ate snacks.
There is shade provided by awnings for anyone needing a respite from the sun, right by the beach. There's also an outdoor shower to rinse off sand after going on the beach.
There was a lot of the beach lost in this area of Rincon, but there is plenty to sit on and walk along by Casa Serena. The beach is coming back, we noticed a difference in the time we were there. I went snorkeling most days in front of the house and swam parallel to the beach. I actually saw a lot more fish than I have in previous years in the same area. It's a very safe spot for swimming and snorkeling. The pelicans are still as entertaining to watch as always, as they soar and dive for fish.
The neighborhood is pretty quiet, you can hear a rooster crowing now and then and occasionally some local dogs will make themselves heard. It was lovely hearing the waves every night before falling asleep.
The house itself is great. It has a fully equipped kitchen and a dining table with a view of the ocean. Or you can eat outside on the patio, with an overhead fan/light. There are plenty of beach chairs and towels provided. We felt very much at home during our stay. It was also a very peaceful and tranquil setting.
All the shops and services in Rincon are open. Thank you Nancy, for providing us with a great place to stay!
Great getaway on the beach
CASA SERENA - Al & Jeanne from Denver
We visited Puerto Rico for a week late January, 2018 and stayed at Casa Serena. We were thinking of postponing the visit because of concerns with hurricane damage, but both Nancy and old friends of ours who live in Isabela convinced us that many areas, including Rincon and much of the western portion of the Island, had bounced back and was open for business. We are glad we went; it turned out there would have been no reason to postpone. Although we could still see signs of damage in many areas and some businesses were still closed, Casa Serena was pretty much fully restored (except for portions of the landscaping), and the Rincon area was definitely up and running. Most businesses were open, including stores, restaurants, and most tourist attractions. We had no problem getting groceries, beer, ice, water, and you name it, and all of the roads we travelled were open. Power and water were on and uninterrupted at Casa Serena. We also went to San Juan and toured the streets of Old San Juan and the Castillo San Felipe del Morro, the several-hundred-year-old fort that surrounds Old San Juan. Old San Juan was definitely open for business, the tour of the fort was very interesting. Our friends who grew up in Puerto Rico were not there during Maria but moved back down there to retire in October. They said most of the vegetation was stripped and it looked like an atom bomb had gone off at that time. However, by January, most of the vegetation looked almost normal because of how fast things grow in the tropics. The beaches looked like they were nearly as beautiful as ever, including the one directly in front of Casa Serena.
As far as Casa Serena, we loved the place. We have rented several ocean-front places in the past, and Casa Serena has pretty much everything we look for, particularly a nice yard with places to just sit and watch the waves roll in. You can even sit right on the sandy beach directly in front of the yard. The unit was equipped with most of what you would need to prepare your own meals, although there are plenty of restaurants within a few minutes drive, and some within walking distance. Nancy was very helpful in providing us with information on Rincon. I always seem to sleep better when I can hear the waves through the night. You do kind of have to get used to the neighborhood sounds like the roosters crowing early in the morning, but we would recommend it to anyone.
Dear Al and Jeanne,
It was a pleasure having you as our guests and I truly appreciate your review, because it confirms for visitors that Casa Serena is back to normal and that our property has been restored after hurricane Maria. As you wrote, Rincon is back to its great pre hurricane condition, so we want all visitors to know that we are welcoming everyone back to our houses and to Rincon. Thanks again and we
hope to welcome you back anytime.
Casa Serena and Rincon - Best Vacation!
I traveled to Rincon in October (about 5 weeks after Maria) and then later at the end of December (with my family).
First and foremost, Rincon is still an incredible place to visit! Despite the devastation caused by Maria, Rincon and Puerto Rico are recovering at an amazing pace. The beaches are terrific, the restaurants/cafes/bars are excellent, the town plaza has an excellent vibe (Art Walk every Thursday evening and Farmers Market every Sunday), and the sunsets are still incredible! My family felt safe and secure for our entire stay. We had no problem getting groceries, water, etc. ATMs, gas stations, etc. are very accessible and available.
Second, Nancy's villa is still one of the best places to stay in Rincon. No issues whatsoever with power, water, wi-fi, etc. Casa Serena is in great condition, very spacious and definitely comfortable for my family - myself, my wife and our two 20-something daughters. The location is perfect - right on the beach (Stella) and close to town. There is nothing like having coffee in the morning gazing at the ocean or taking in an amazing subset in the evening. And love hearing the waves at night! We've stayed at Nancy's place for many years and will continue to do so in the future!
In summary, we recommend Casa Serena without any hesitation. Does Puerto Rico still need our help? Yes, no question. (And you can certainly find many opportunities to volunteer when you visit - I volunteered in October and my family and I volunteered again in December.) Rincon and Puerto Rico are still great to visit!
As always, you and your family are valued guests. Rincon especially appreciated that you came in October to volunteer and came back in December to volunteer again with your entire family. Thanks for your review, we need to get the word out that Rincon is back and is a great place for a beach vacation. We look forward to your next visit.
Amazing view of beautiful beach!
We had a great time in Rincón. Casa Serena was a great location and amenities were perfect for our group.
Rincon, a small town on Puerto Rico's unspoiled West Coast, is known for its several MILES of sandy Caribbean beaches, the best big wave surfing anywhere in the Atlantic, terrific fishing, boating, swimming, snorkeling, off-shore scuba diving, whale watching and much more. The area hosts many fine restaurants. El Faro, Rincon's lighthouse offers stunning views of the ocean and is one of two passive whale watching parks in the world. The surrounding area offers interesting side trips like coffee plantations, spectacular mountain driving, mini rain forests, the Rio Camuy Cave Park, Cabo Rojo's salt flats, Arecibo Observatory's massive radio telescope and the biologically wondrous Phosphorescent Bay. Golfing is available 25 minutes north in Aguadilla and casino gambling is 20 minutes south in Mayaguez.
