About James Rogers
I am a local small business owner. I enjoy the lake and spending time with my family including my grandsons. I live very close to the Retreat spending any open weekends there with my family.
James Rogers purchased this House in 2003
Why James Rogers chose Hixson
I was fortunate enough to acquire this property from the estate of the original developer of this part of the lake. This was his personal residence and explains how such a large piece of land on the lake , close to the city, became available. We love to enjoy every aspect of the lake.

House is pretty good, boat and water access is really bad
3 families, 6 adults, 5 kids, plenty of room for everyone. The large yard was fun and the screened in outdoor area was really comfortable in the evenings. We were able to eat both inside and outside over the holiday weekend.
The water access is the very back of a slough, with little to no water movement, water was full of moss, weeds, sticks, branches, etc. The water level around the entire dock and pier was around 3 feet, no one could even use that area to swim. We brought our small boat and put in at nearby Chester Park, we couldn’t believe how shallow the water was. The deeper parts of the slough were only 4 feet, with many parts less than 2 feet. We damaged our propeller pretty bad.
Nothing in the description of this property warned us about any of this.
The house exterior needs a lot of attention as well, shrubbery is way overgrown, growing into the house in places, screens are torn in places and exterior fans look like they could fall at any time.
We made the best of weekend, had a good time, but if anyone is looking to rent this property to swim and or use a boat, I would Highly discourage it. We definitely won’t be back.
We have stayed here two years in a row for our yearly guys fishing trip. We have had no issues with our stay either time. The only improvement that we would like to see an upgrade to the kids beds. The size of the twin beds are fine, but being older fellas better mattresses would be nice. This would not keep us from staying again next year.
Great place to stay
House is very up to date, and plenty of room for large groups. Very good and close lake access. Parking with a boat was a little tricky due to wet ground but other than that a great experience. close to large selection of restaurants and convenience stores.
Shared the rental with my 2 sons, my best buddy and his son, and another good friend. We had a fabulous time and the rental was perfect for us. We had 3 boats and parking was not a problem, with power available. The lake was down so we could not use the dock was the only big downfall, but this was totally out of control for the owner. Communication was great with the owner, response time was always less than an hour. Lots of places to eat close by, though we did most of our meals at the rental as everything we needed was at the rental. I would recommend this property to anyone looking to fish Lake Chickamauga. Thanks James for your hospitality!!!!
Thank you Fred for such a generous review. We look forward to hosting you on your next fishing trip.
Stayed the weekend in September very relaxing
Stay the weekend in September with three other couples outside living was phenomenal surrounding area was nice had plenty to do
Perfect location to be at the lake and in the middle of civilization and unlimited activities. There are 2 great restaurants a quarter mile walk from the house.
