About Becky Skinner
Pete and I have recently retired and love the increased opportunity for time in our cabin. We purchased the lot in 2004 and completed building in 2005. Pete grew up in Arizona and has his fondest childhood memories of vacationing in the the White Mountains, which has become our favorite place in Arizona. We are both NAU Alumni and have spent many years exploring Arizona. We have five children and almost 11 grandchildren. Our family considers our time spent at the cabin our very favorite bonding times. Now that they have partners and children, our reunions have expanded to some RV and tent camping on the property as well. I have started an annual "cousin camp" when all my potty trained grandkids come up and spend time with grandparents only; no parents allowed at cousin camp. We know you will enjoy the cabin as much as we do.
Becky Skinner purchased this Cabin in 2005
Why Becky Skinner chose Pinetop
When Pete's Cousin offered to sell us the 1.2 acre lot, we jumped on it. We started building the following year (2005). The location is perfect. The cabin location feels very private and is nestled in the pines. It's amazing that we are so close to so many amenities, but feel so far away in a wonderful way. We have enough room for our kids and grandkids to camp on the lot. We are outdoor people who love family gatherings, taking long walks, and still have a property that's close enough to good restaurants, and skiing.
What makes this Cabin unique
The oversized great room, and oversized deck make this a complete joy for family gatherings. There are outdoor heating units which allow us to nap on our cushioned couch and lounge furniture, and play board games/cards at the outdoor table, even in cooler weather. We have 5 rocking chairs on the front deck for morning coffee. Our grandkids love playing in the tree house, performing on the stage, and gathering around the fire ring. The hot tub is right outside the master bedroom on the back deck. We often have our morning coffee in the hot tub while watch the deer feed.

Wonderful property. As my wife said, " So comfortable you feel like it is your own home." Huge back deck with plenty of comfortable furniture and a very nice Weber gas grill. The shower in the master bathroom is really nice. Very quiet location. You will sleep well. Re the owners: if you have a question or need something Becky is very prompt in responding.
You are welcome any time! You were the perfect tenants. Please come again!
A 'Fair" experience
To start out, Woodland Lake is 'bone dry'!! Surprise! The front door won't latch closed. Need to lock it all of the time and then the key wouldn't lock it without considerable attempts. We had to leave via the rear door and even then fiddle with the key!!
The kitchen was deplorable. There was that thin film of kitchen grease on all of the appliances and most of the kitchen ware. The turntable and stovetop light didn't work on the microwave. The two back burners on the stove didn't even work. I had to clean them with brilllo pads and scrape them clean. The toaster crumb pan had never been emptied!! The teflon pots and pans were so disgusting that we wouldn't use the to cook for a dog!! We had to go buy a sauté pan. I've got photos!! There are eight clocks in the house and not a single one work. Even a cheap motel has bedside digital clocks!! There was no plunger in the house and no crank wrench for the disposal. There's a three car garage but no space for renters.
For the first two weeks we had to endure construction noise on the property. And finally; Who would own a home with gutters in a pine forest and not clean them prior to the monsoon season?
However, in spite of the cleanliness and upkeep issues, we did enjoy the large, new back patio with the new bbq and the great spa.
Thank you for your feedback. I must say, we gave this renter a 50% discount and on top of that allowed them to show up two days early at no additional charge. When we asked what time they would show up, they indicated 12:30 and showed up at 10:30 then asked us to leave while we were cleaning the kitchen. Their choice, not ours. Did the renter realize that prior to his arrival, Pinetop was in the middle of their driest season ever. Should Woodland Lake be criticized in the review? The stovetop light works for us, back burners work for us. All of our antique clocks work but are hung without winding so as not to be bothered with the dongs. Everyone has cell phones these days for time and the clocks on the oven and microwave showed the correct time. There are two plungers in the house, put in the cupboards under the sink so as not to be out in the open to imply their need. We never need them, but they are there. Our listing does not advertise a garage as well as 90% of all of the vacation rentals on the mountain. Garages are where the owners keep their personal belongings as stated in the listing. The front door lock was his only truly fair statement. We will fix that for sure. We clean our gutters 3 times a year. The extra dry season warrants more pine needles. Did this really negatively impact the renter. our lot is 1.25 acres.....in the very back corner we had a tree house being built which was 90% complete. We requested these renters to contact us with any concerns (we met them upon their early arrival), we even asked us if they had any comments or concerns before we left. We never heard a word. We told them up front, that if we didn't hear from them, we would assume everything was great. This is our first review under a five star rating. Regardless, we will address those items that we believe require attention. Sorry....filling Woodland Lake (which was very low; but not bone dry) during this record breaking drought period was beyond our capability. However, the monsoons are taking care of this situation.
This was perfect, fully stocked with everything we needed.
It felt like home plenty of room nice walk to the lake. Would love to rent again
That makes me happy. We would love to have you again!
Gorgeous cabin with great owners!
The home is beautifully furnished with great accent lighting and fully equipped! The owners were very helpful and welcoming. They even had Christmas decorations and a tree up for us to enjoy! We baked, played board games at the table surrounded by windows on three sides, went for walks around the nearby lake, skied at Sunrise and built snowmen. We even saw deer walk through the yard at least twice! The wifi works great. The hot tub was a real treat and not a common find! We finished each soak with a rain shower in the master bathroom. Their daughter lives nearby and eagerly helped us with every question we had about the house and the area! We will definitely go back again!
We our so happy to hear that out enjoyed your vacation in our cabin. You're welcome back anytime!
Wonderful Family Vacation
Becky's home is absolutely lovely. It was a perfect fit for our family (five adults and two children). We enjoyed the Great Room and the deck when it was raining. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook family meals. She even had a crib, playpen, and high chair for our baby. It was wonderful to be able to pack light and find everything we needed in the home. Becky was very responsive and encouraged me to call if I had any questions or concerns. We used the fire pit, the hot tub, the grill, and the games/toys. While we didn't want to spend our time watching TV, we did enjoy Netflix in the evening. We hiked around Woodland Lake and did a scavenger hunt, went go-carting, flew kites at the nature center, went paddleboating on Rainbow Lake, and had a four year old birthday party. All in all a wonderful family vacation!
I'm thrilled you enjoyed your stay! COME AGAIN!
A lot of mountain heaven on a private acre lot (herd of dear in the yard every morning), near all the conveniences of Pinetop (cinemas, gym, great restaurants, bakery, grocery stores) and within 1/2 hour to 20 different lakes to fish on and skiing at Sunrise. Casino with live entertainment 3 1/2 miles. Walking distance to Woodland Lake (the jewel of Pinetop), it's a wonderful daily ritual to walk around the lake just 200 yards from cabin. Some of our favorites: Baked in Pinetop (bakery), Los Corales (Mexican food), Darbi's (breakfast), Charlie Clarks (prime rib), Red Devil (pizza, salads, italian and coconut cream pie), Lions Den (nightlife). Zip lining and skiing at Sunrise depending on season, horseback riding close by, paddle boats available for rent at nearby lake, go carting and movies close,..... SO MUCH MORE! MUST EXPERIENCE TO APPRECIATE!
