'Hale 'O Imi Loa' (Hawaiian for 'House of Christopher', and named after our son Chris) is located in a quiet, remarkably beautiful residential area of Princeville, in a charming cul-de-sac with a view of Makana Mountain, renowned for the 'Bali Hai' rock, recognized in dozens of Hollywood movies. If peace and quiet is your thing, this is the place for you. Best described as modest, cozy, quiet, and cottage-like. Access (either through hiking, walking, or driving) to major attractions is literally minutes away: island helicopter tours, horseback riding, golfing, zipping, scuba diving, beaches
Privacy and quiet are the hallmarks of this home, and is a major reason they decided to own it. Staying here has more of a 'this is what it feels like to live in Hawaii' quality and less like being surrounded by hustle and bustle. The property is very child-friendly, has a variety of huge palm trees, and numerous varieties of flora and fauna. The swishing of palm trees and the soft sound of occasional showers adds to a truly unique tropical experience. Tables and chairs in both front and back yards (grass in the backyard, red bricked patio in the front) invite breakfast, dinner, relaxation.
There is a park behind this home and property where you can take long walks and enjoy jogging and running. This is a wonderful place to enjoy the great outdoors and children and grandchildren can play and have fun too. There are tables in both the front and back yards as well as one by the BBQ for your convenience while grilling. Youngsters (and youngsters at heart) just love to play ball in the wide open space.
You will certainly appreciate the convenience of the lovely Hawaiian-style fully curtained garden shower just off the lanai. It's great for rinsing off after coming home from the beach.
The Owner is a retired Pediatric Nurse and especially wants children of all ages to enjoy her home. She has provided toys for all ages from babies all the way to teenagers. If you would like to speak with the owner of this property about the home, please let us know.
Guest comments: "Very comfortable home. Everything we need is here. The house is cozy in a very nice area. We feel at home and like all the books about Kauai, books to read and very good collection of DVDs." Edward G., California
"Beautiful home which suited our needs for our stay. Spacious & close to beaches & shopping. Very quiet neighborhood. We enjoyed the seclusion yet not being too far from things." Amy M., Florida
"We are a family of three with a 2-yr. old. This home was perfect for our time on Kauai...I was also able to enjoy two books out of the owner's library. We could have packed much lighter considering it is a well-stocked house in a convenient location to the Princeville shopping center...A perfect, tranquil setting that we hope to visit again and again. Thank you so very much for sharing your home with us." Allison K., California

Lovely rental home!
I had a wonderful stay. This home is located in a wonderful neighborhood. I so enjoyed the breezes blowing through the house through the open windows, and the private back yard and screened in porch were a nice place to relax and sip my morning coffee. This was a great place to come home to at the end of each day.
Beautiful, cozy, perfect for little kids/active family. Great access to north/east sides of island
We spent a week at this lovely Princeville home in March 2018. Mom, dad, toddler, and infant. The kid-centric amenities are unbeatable: pack and play, high chair, beach toys, indoor toys, and children’s books. Both kids were exquisitely happy and as a result, the grownups were stress free (as one hopes on vacation in Hawaii!). There is also a huge green space park to the back of the property and a screened in porch. Our toddler never ran out of toys to play with, books to read, or places to run around while we were in the house. And he loved all of the beach toys, especially the shovels!
The kitchen was great and had lots of what we needed in terms of cookware, though we definitely had to beef up the pantry as there was only salt and pepper (purchasing things like cooking oil, butter, etc.). Beds were very comfy. Bathrooms great (though only soap is provided, so pack your own shampoo and conditioner since it is exorbitantly priced on the island!). My personal favorite: an outdoor shower. There’s something really magical about showering while looking at the sky.
As for location, this is on the north side. The neighborhood is quiet and walking distance from the Princeville town center. Just a short drive (or long stroll) from Lappert’s Ice Cream and Food Town (both in Princeville), as well as proximity to all the restaurants in Hanalei and the Dolphin Market (where you can buy your own fish or poke and enjoy it at home!). Close to Anini Beach, Hanalei Bay, and hiking the Kalalau Trail. We also enjoyed the Wai Koa Trail, which is just down the road and is an easy five mile “hike” with kiddos. It takes you to a pretty magical Shangri La-feeling stone dam. We also did the Moalepe Trail near Kapaa- also doable with kids and maybe our favorite day.
The one downside of this property is that it’s not really in a location to explore the whole island if you aren’t up for driving. The Poipu area is about a 90 minute drive. We didn’t make it out to Waimea because it was too much of a trek with the kiddos. But we didn’t feel like we were missing out as we enjoyed four hikes, six beaches, and two farmers markets primarily on the north and east sides of the island.
The property is run by a property management company that was very polite and accessible. So no complaints there.
Highly recommend this location, especially for a small family. We will be back for sure.
Perfect vacation home
we just returned from two glorious weeks at hale o imi loa. we loved the comfort, the spaciousness, the privacy, the outdoor shower and most of all the birds. we recorded their morning sound to take home with us. the house has everything we needed to make our vacation easy and comfortable. the kitchen is fully equipped and the location couldn't be better for north shore exploring. the management company was a pleasure to work with. we highly recommended hale o imi loa.
a perfect house in Princeville
We spent 10 days at this ideal house. It is exactly how it appears on the pictures, even better. The bedrooms are bright and airy, the beds comfortable, the bathroom/toilets complex is cleverly designed, giving privacy and making good use of the space, the outside shower adding to the options. The common space is pleasant, spacious, especially with the adjacent lanai. The kitchen has lots of cooking tools. Bring your own spices. Overall the whole place is decorated with care and taste. The 2 yards give you a chance to catch the sun or the shade at any time of day. The DVD collection is impressive. The neighborhood is quiet, safe and friendly. Food shopping is next door. Good snorkeling, beautiful beaches within easy reach. Thank you for sharing such a gem.
Perfect Vacation Home for a Young Family
My wife and I stayed at the house for 5 nights with our 15 month old son, and we could not have been happier with what we got. The home had everything that we needed, and it was all labeled very clearly and specifically so that I had no trouble at all finding things from day 1. We were stocked with PLENTY of towels, sheets, and beach gear. Plus the pack-and-play/porta-crib (whatever term you prefer) was a fantastic amenity. Saving us the trouble of hauling one there from the east coast was invaluable. My son loved playing in the yard as well as the park that the house backs up to. They even had a soccer ball and volleyball for him to kick and chase around! The location was ideal for us. The Princeville Shopping Center is extremely convenient, and it is only a short drive to beautiful Hanalei. This was our first family vacation, and this home helped to make it a great one.
Absolutely wonderful and completely comfortable home, perfect for a family.
We are a family of three, with a 2yr old. This home was perfect for our time on Kauai. The home is located in a beautiful area and was centrally located for all of our favorite spots, including Hanalei and Moloa'a. It is well-maintained and thoroughly stocked with all that we needed for our stay. I particularly loved having the pack-n-play on site (we rented one last year), the washer/dryer was an important amenity to us, and the beach gear was put to good use. I was also able to enjoy two books out of the owner's library. We could have packed much lighter considering it is a well-stocked house in a convenient location to the Princeville shopping center. I will remember this for next time!
We referred to Hale O' Imi Loa as Andy's (our son's) Kauai House or Hale O' Andy. He cheered every time we arrived back to "Andy's House." Andy loved feeding the birds and enjoyed eating his meals on the enclosed Lanai.
The home is very cool and airy as the windows bring in Kauai's lovely tropical breezes. The owners do a fabulous job of accurately describing all that this home has to offer.
A perfect, tranquil setting that we hope to visit again and again. Thank you so very much for sharing your home with us.
