Overview

About the property

1-2 bedrooom cottage 25 feet from the water.

Eleanor’s Cottage, our vacation home, is a recently renovated 1500 sq. ft. charming 1-2 bedroom cottage located on picturesque Great Island overlooking Quahog Bay - located only 15 minutes from Brunswick/Bowdoin College, 30 minutes from Freeport (home of LLBean, lots of outlet shopping). It is the perfect venue for a couple that just wants to get away or you have children at Bowdoin that you would like to spend time with. Relax on the deck or in the gorgeous large screen room overlooking panoramic views of the bay including lobster boats and Pole Island. You can enjoy a small rocky shore or a private deep water dock for fishing, swimming or kayaking – 2 kayaks, paddles, vests (Maine law - must wear) are complimentary. The private large yard has beautiful gardens and plenty of room for games or to just sit and enjoy the views in nice adirondack chairs. If you love bird watching there are numerous song birds, sea gulls, osprey, eagles, loons, and sea ducks.

In the afternoons, you can walk to one of the lobster pounds located next door to get a delicious Maine lobster to cook in the fully stocked kitchen. There is a nice Weber gas grill that you can also use.

On the main floor is an entrance room, living room with TV, kitchen, full bath and a bedroom that sleeps 2 very comfortably in a new, adjustable tempurpedic queen bed. Our second story is an open tastefully decorated sitting/game area with stunning views of Quahog and Casco Bay. We do not have a washer and dryer, but there is a laundromat in Cook's Corner (15 min away). There is a private road and parking. Smoking is absolutely prohibited.

About John Borden and Vikki Howard

My husband, John, is a lobsterman and I (Vikki) am a veterinarian. We have 3 lovely flurry children (cats) that we share our home with in Kittery Point Maine.

John Borden and Vikki Howard purchased this cottage in 2007

Why John Borden and Vikki Howard chose Harpswell

We fell in love with the home, the view and it's location adjacent to the working waterfront. Harpswell is a magical town that has the most coast line in Maine - over 200 miles. There is so much to do or NOT do in the area. You will love it as much as we do.

What makes this cottage unique

It's never a dull moment watching the ospreys and eagles catching fish or the fisherman unloading their catch.

The property is beautiful and is exactly as shown / described in the photos.

We had a wonderful and relaxing week at Eleanor's Cottage earlier this month. The pictures were spot on and Vikki and John thought of everything to make your stay enjoyable. We've stayed in several VRBO properties and this one felt most like being a guest in someone's home - not just being in a rental property.

Peaceful with outstanding views

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was a perfect retreat for my husband and me. The view from the house and the beautiful garden and the dock was wonderful. The cottage was so private yet close to everything. There was a lot to do nearby: restaurants, great antique shops, sandy beach, lighthouses and lobster rolls. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to create great meals you just need to provide the food. This rental is on top in our keep file for future vacations!
