Overview

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6

The farmhouse at Franny's Farm was custom designed and built by Jeff & Franny the owners/farmers/construction engineer. It is one-of-a-kind, unique, passive solar, green certified example of fine building. There is lots of activity on the farm with the owners living on site, farm labor, visitors, animals and more. It has come to be called "the bowl of heaven" because of the magic that seems to happen here on a daily basis. The Eco-Cabin Event Center is a unique approach to travel and lodging. There are separate listings for the 2 eco-cabins & multiple campsites. All share the solar powered community building with the kitchen, bathrooms and shower house. Kitchen is new and fully equipped.

Check in at the barn. It is the first building upon entering the farm. We encourage guests to familiarize themselves with all the farm has to offer. Visit the animals and by all means give them a carrot and they'll love you forever. Tour the gardens and see what is growing. There may even be the freshest ingredients you can harvest from the garden or purchase from the farm store. Walk in the pollinator garden and on the Moonshine Mary Trail. Gathering around the fire pit to socialize, relax and star gaze is favored by all.

We love to interact with guests but also very much respect your privacy. So, feel free to approach us or our farm manager with questions. We also have the underground insider recommendations for the best of everything Asheville and the surrounding area has to offer- from hiking, tubing, biking to restaurants like Indian, sushi, Mexican and those with a certain vibe. And we know music and the venues!

PETS: ONLY small pets under 10 pounds are allowed in the farmhouse. Please keep pets attended at ALL times, clean up ALL waste and properly dispose of it in outside garbage cans.

SMOKING: Absolutely NO smoking inside any building. Please ONLY smoke outside of buildings and properly dispose of butts in a garbage can. Please demonstrate that smokers can be responsible and considerate. It is very important to us.

Leicester is located only 20 minutes from downtown Asheville and 45 minutes to Hot Springs. It is beautiful farm land and all important amenities like a market, grocery store & gas station are close. With that said, the closest food is our beloved hometown Turkey Creek Cafe and fast food about 10 minutes outside the farm.

There is not any public transportation close to the farm and having your own vehicle is important for getting around.

About Jeff Tacy

Franny’s Farm was founded in 2012 by Jeff, Frances, Zach & Blue Tacy.

Our farm is located in Leicester, North Carolina only 10 miles from downtown Asheville. We are dedicated to family, sustainability, ethical business and offering an organic farm for visitors to celebrate, learn, explore, relax and have a memorable time. Franny’s Farm is at the core an organic, sustainable farm that is home to many animals such as chickens, turkeys, sheep, goats and a donkey. There are vegetable, fruit, flower, bee and pollinator gardens as well as a u-pick blueberry hill. We serve as an event venue and host farm weddings and festivals such as Farm Fest & Asheville BARNAROO. Our facility is available for public and private events, educational opportunities, and getaways in our eco cabins.

Why Jeff Tacy chose Leicester

I was raised in Nashville, TN. My moma was a big-time corporate business woman and my daddy is a cattle farmer. They divorced when I was 4 so, I got to live in both of these amazing realities of business and farming. I spent most of my education in an all girls Catholic school because that’s what they did back then when you were mischievous and a big talker. I had dreams of going out west so, I went to Forestry school in Flagstaff, AZ. I lived on a farm there for a few years. It was one of 3 Sustainable Agriculture programs in the country at that time. Funny, my husband was in a similar program at the same time in Syracuse NY. I spent many years learning by adventure. I have a graduate degree in Education and taught school for 6 years. I worked in Pharmaceuticals for over a decade. My nickname was the “hippie in high heels.” My career path has been Pharm to Farm. Ever since I can remember, I always wanted to live on a farm. I’ve been gardening since I was 8 and my granny used to say I had 10 green thumbs. Our family was a grand example of city farmers with chickens, bees and a garden. I’ve attended, participated in and taught at Organic Growers School for years among many other farming conventions. We are living the dream! We lost all our investments and our construction business in the economic strife and started over on Franny’s Farm! We bought land overgrown with brambles and have turned into a paradise that we now get to share with others. Come on out to “the bowl of heaven” where dreams come true! Amazing family trip

  • 5 of 5

This was a great trip to a very cool farm where our kids loved playing with the animals, going in the canoe and watching the stars. The owners and farm workers were extremely nice and friendly. We will go back for sure.
