Space 1,506 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Charming 2 bedroom traditional cottage by a stream.

Le Petit Cerisier is one of two recently renovated cottages in a pretty hamlet. There is a gravel terrace to the front and a back garden running down to the stream. Decorated in traditional French country style the cottage has a sitting room with woodburner, comfy sofas and dining table . There are plenty of books and games and good free WIFI conections. There is a TV with English 'free to view' channels. The modern kitchen has patio doors opening onto views of the terrace, garden, stream and fields beyond.

From the kitchen there is a lovely old staircase leading to the two bedrooms and bathroom and going up these stairs is like stepping back in time! All of the upstairs has wide ancient floorboards and oak beamed ceilings. The main bedroom is huge, about 30 square metres (322sq ft). This is funished with 2 old french "lit de coin" which are small doubles of 120cm width. These make lovely generous single beds. The other bedroom has a double bed and the room is 16 square metres (172sq ft).

The bathroom has loo, washbasin and bath with a shower attached. This too is a lovely big airy room (20 square metres) overlooking the back garden.

The small front terrace is gravel and has a table and 4 chairs for sunny breakfasts, at the rear there is a small shaded terrace and quite steep steps leading to a lawn with further table and chairs and barbeque. This has direct access to the shallow, slow moving river. Young children will need to be supervised at all times.

The hamlet has lots of walks in the surrounding countryside, including to the lake after which it is named, and easy access to a wealth of historic towns and villages where you can eat, drink or visit markets, museums or churches.

About The Owner

Hi. As you will see, I only moved here (I live nextdoor) earlier in 2017. I am currently finishing decorating the cottage ready for letting from June 2018.

I have lived and worked in France for 14 years and apart from looking after the 2 rental cottages I own, I also have a small online business selling antiques and vintage items that I find at markets and fairs here in Aquitaine. All in all, it is a fun relaxed life and I really enjoy meeting my guests.

Why The Owner chose Périgord

This is an old cottage with some unusual period features, quirky and set on different levels. The garden and terraces offer choices of sun or shade and the little hamlet has a variety of walks to discover. It has been a pleasure for me to renovate the house and bring back into use some areas that haven't been lived in for decades! It is now a comfortable and attractive holiday cottage.

Situated in the beautiful Dordogne countryside, there are many walks. Nearby historic villages include Aubeterre, a 'plus belle village de France', Brantôme, with its abbey, quaint streets, boat trips and canoeing and Bordeille where you can visit the chateau.

There are chateaux, caves, vineyards and many small pretty limestone villages to discover. The historic cities of Angoulême and Perigueux are both worth a visit. Angoulême is famous for its cartoon college and September vintage car races, and Perigueux has lots to see including a roman villa museum the unusual cathederal of St Front and lots of narrow streets with interesting shops and cafés.

Most of the local towns have a weekly market, the best of these is at Riberac, less than 20 minutes drive. There are also several decent sized supermarkets there too.

Closer at hand there are several bars and restaurants within a 5 minute drive, including A Table at La Luniére wich was featured in two series of the program 'A New Life in the Sun'.

The village of Verteillac is 9k away, and this is your nearest base for chemist, butchers, ATM machine, little supermarket, tourist information and even hairdressers.
