About Sue Webb-Rees
The owners discovered Tubac in 2007. The weather in the winter is fantastic. They love sitting in their courtyard with coffee in the morning watching the hummingbirds. In the evening they sit on the back patio and enjoy the view of the mountains shrouded in the soft evening sun.
Sue Webb-Rees purchased this Cottage in 2015
Why Sue Webb-Rees chose Tubac
Seeing the potential of what this property could be with a little imagination and determination is what attracted them to this property. They wanted to provide a comfortable and cozy experience for their guests. They renovated the entire complex but kept the charm and warmth by creating a real southern Arizona gem.
What makes this Cottage unique
They have taken the old world style and updated some of the features to make this Casita a home that they would want to stay in. It is perfect for the traveler who wants all the amenities of home and also the feel of the Southwest.

Very great place to stay. Very clean and spacious! Will go back many times. Thank you.
Clean, Quiet and Comfortable
We had visited Tubac, but never stayed there before our 2 night rental. This house was perfect. It's in a small complex with a few other units, but is a stand alone house with a private backyard and a wonderfully private sky deck where you can see the mountains during the day and the stars at night. We could even see the Milky Way which is a treat for city dwellers who rarely have such dark skies.
The house was fully furnished and included paper products in the baths and kitchen. We didn't use the TV nor the washer and dryer during our short stay, but those are great to have available.
The house is conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants (Soto's is very good) and a wine tasting room (Flying Leap has some great wines and try their dark chocolate, it's yummy!) Yet the house is just far enough away from the center of things to be very quiet.
For birders it's just a short walk to the De Anza trail. But there are great birds to see even in town such as the Chihuahuan Raven, Ladder-backed Woodpecker, and Northern Harrier.
If we ever need a place to stay in Tubac again, we will definitely rent this house. We loved it and highly recommend it to others.
Delightful and convenient
We spent a month in this casita and wished it had been longer. We were very pleased with both the accommodation and our host. This casita exceeded our expectations considerably. We understood that it had been remodeled recently, but had not anticipated how thoroughly or how well that had been done. The casita has new plumbing fixtures, new cabinets, and new HVAC units. The kitchen has new appliances, and was better furnished than any other vacation rental we have experienced. The washer and dryer worked flawlessly. The wifi worked reliably. We were even able to charge our electric car using a spare dryer circuit near the carport.
In addition to the modern updates, this casita still has the classic charm we had hoped for with its saltillo tile floors and wood beam ceilings. Most rooms have natural light from two sides, and the bathrooms have skylights. The fenced back yard worked very well for our small terrier. The neighbors were quiet and cordial.
The location can't be beat. We never needed to use the car in town. Everything in Tubac is within a short walk, including the grocery store and quite a few restaurants, in addition to all the shops and galleries, but this quiet casita is just beyond the daytime hustle and bustle of visiting tourists. We could visit Tucson easily whenever we wanted, but the local area kept us occupied most of the time. It's an short drive to Nogales, Patagonia, and Madera Canyon, and Tumacacori is only a few miles away, either by driving or hiking along the river.
We'll be back next year. If this unit isn't available, we hope to be in one of the others in this small complex.
Casitas San Rafael is located just steps from the Village of Tubac which has over 100 shops and unique galleries with courtyards and spectacular water fountains throughout the village. You can loose track of time with all the wonderful galleries, paintings, sculptures, ceramics and photography. It is truly "where art and history meet".
