About Shellie Johnson
My husband Grant and I own the home just up the hill from Mountain River Retreat and as the managers we look forward to serving you! Grant is a Master Plumber and General Contractor and has his own business, Covenant Construction & Plumbing. Together we have four children, 3 of them are out of the home. At this time we have six grandchildren with hopefully more to come! I grew up here in the Silver Valley, moved away after high school, then came back after Grant & I got married in 1993. Several years later we moved to Post Falls then to ND and found our way back home to Kingston in 2015.
Why Shellie Johnson chose Kingston
In 2015 Grant and I sold our Breath of Heaven Farm in Post Falls which we had been renting out as a vacation rental. Almost a year before that we purchased the home just up the hill from the property which would become Mountain River Retreat. The log home was vacant so we connected with the owners who live out of town and came up with the idea to work together to create a beautiful getaway for guests like you! When the farm sold we brought all the furnishings over and began the three and a half month process of remodeling and setting up Mountain River Retreat. (Fortunately Grant is a master plumber and general contractor and I love to decorate!) This property and log home are the perfect combination for an unforgettable vacation!
What makes this Cabin unique
Mountain River Retreat is unique because of it's close proximity and easy access to the scenic Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes, the crystal clear waters of the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River, it's beautiful secluded setting and the rustic charm of the log home.

Great place to gather with friends!
For the second year in a row, our group of twelve women have gathered here to celebrate winter - and our friendship. We love the River Retreat - the access to snowshoeing and walking trails, the hot tub on the deck, the warmth of the fireplace, the seclusion, and the wonderful views. One of our group, seeing the animal tracks on the trail, wished to see a moose - and one evening, there it was, in the field near the house! What a memorable place.....
We spent the New Years here and really enjoyed it we had 4 families with children. Enough snow to go sledding and we brought our snowmobiles everyone had a blast. The hot tub was amazing also the kitchen was stocked (we rented many cabins before this one was stocked the best) thank you
Got snowed in and stuck for a day, but the property managers worked tirelessly to get the road clear over (a foot and a half of snow overnight on top of the 12 or so inches the previous day). Grandkids made the best of it and found sledding areas around the house. Nicely decorated, plenty of games for family fun and beautiful views made for an enjoyable experience.
Great weekend getaway near the mountains!
Wonderful stay at the cabin. We will be back in the Spring!
This place was the perfect fall getaway with guests visiting from the East Coast. The retreat is roomy yet cozy. We loved the grounds, hiking the trail and the beautiful river. And the beds were very comfortable
Comfort and Beauty
Six ladies enjoyed a weekend getaway and found the internal and external spaces very comfortable, well equipped, and welcoming indeed. Shellie is a responsive host and has thought of nearly everything. We did have a little trouble finding the location so perhaps you want to ask for very detailed directions from the Interstate. We look forward to returning next year and will be especially pleased if direct access to the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes is available.
The unforgettable Silver Valley, where you can mine endless outdoor activities!
