About Shellie Johnson

My husband Grant and I own the home just up the hill from Mountain River Retreat and as the managers we look forward to serving you! Grant is a Master Plumber and General Contractor and has his own business, Covenant Construction & Plumbing. We also own a pet store in Williston N.Dakota as well as a couple rental apartments there. Together we have four children, 3 of them are out of the home. At this time we have six grandchildren with hopefully more to come! I grew up here in the Silver Valley, moved away after high school, then came back after Grant & I got married in 1993. Several years later we moved to Post Falls then to ND and found our way back home to Kingston in 2015.

Why Shellie Johnson chose Idaho

In 2015 Grant and I sold our Breath of Heaven Farm in Post Falls which we had been renting out as a vacation rental. Almost a year before that we purchased the home just up the hill from the property which would become Mountain River Retreat. The log home was vacant so we connected with the owners who live out of town and came up with the idea to partner together to create a beautiful getaway for guests like you! When the farm sold we brought all the furnishings over and began the three and a half month process of remodeling and setting up Mountain River Retreat. (Fortunately Grant is a master plumber and general contractor and I love to decorate!) This property and log home are the perfect combination for an unforgettable vacation!

What makes this cabin unique

Mountain River Retreat is unique because of it's close proximity to the scenic Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes, the crystal clear waters of the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River, it's beautiful secluded setting and the rustic charm of the log home.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had the most beautiful time this week at mountain river retreat. My son Jon and his beautiful bride Nicole had their wedding celebration here. With family and friends (they are really family). The setting was perfect, the cabin, the camping area, the river, fire pits and the amenities. Wow!!! Here are a few moments of our time. That we will remember forever. Thank you Shelly and Grant, you are gifted by God to be in the business of bringing happy memories. The cabin was wonderful and you think of even the smallest details. First class all the way!!!! Thank you for making their wedding so wonderful.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

This place was the perfect fall getaway with guests visiting from the East Coast. The retreat is roomy yet cozy. We loved the grounds, hiking the trail and the beautiful river. And the beds were very comfortable

Comfort and Beauty

  • 4 of 5

Six ladies enjoyed a weekend getaway and found the internal and external spaces very comfortable, well equipped, and welcoming indeed. Shellie is a responsive host and has thought of nearly everything. We did have a little trouble finding the location so perhaps you want to ask for very detailed directions from the Interstate. We look forward to returning next year and will be especially pleased if direct access to the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes is available.

We have stayed here two years in a row and will be coming back again. Shellie the owner is very helpful with prompt replies to questions and needs. The cabin has close access to the river. There is a lot to do at the cabin and surrounding area. Would be great for families. Would highly recommend!

Wonderful stay

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time staying here. The location is awesome, close to the river and close to the CDA trail. The adults had fun as did the kids. Minus one star because the hot tub quit working half way through our stay, but overall we had a wonderful stay.

One of the best cabins we've stayed in and the owners are super nice and helpful if you need anything. One of the things we really liked we're the beds, they are super comfortable and that's one of the things we look at to see if we would come back. The views from the cabin are fabulous and it's only about 15 minutes always from the ski resort. I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone and we are definitely coming back in the summer. We had an awesome weekend there. Thanks Shellie
