About scott Vanderweel
Scott and Martha are retired and living the dream! We spend our summers here on the same beach as our rentals. We love serving the needs of our guest. Our goal is to make your vacation the very best ever. We spend our winters in the Caribbean on the Island of St Thomas. There, we spend our time hosting to our friends and family who come to visit. There is always plenty of room and plenty to eat at our house! Our St Thomas house is VRBO listing # 857551 if you are interested.
Why scott Vanderweel chose Town of Huron
Scott grew up out here on Crescent Beach. Since 1960, Scott used to camp out here on the beach when there were no cottages at all. In 1989 Scott started developing the beach to share his paradise with others. There is no other place like this in NY. The sunsets are considered to be in the top ten in the world! There is no road access to the beach which is one of the best features! It's just a 5 minute boat ride from our marina. It is very private and beautiful! You will love it here!
What makes this Cottage unique
Sit on the deck which is directly off your bedrooms and watch your children swim, kayak, paddle boat, canoe or just play on the beach which is ten feet from the deck. Enjoy a camp fire on the bay in your private fire pit. The kids will love our water slide that sets on the upper deck of our boat house next door. There is a ten foot drop into the deep waters of Sodus Bay!

Beautiful 3D water view.
Scott and Martha are wonderful host. Fishing right on your deck. Fish waiting in line to tickle your bait under your feet while sunsetting on your back.
Thank you for the fish dinner that was delicious
You're beautiful white German shepherd had the best vacation of her life . She was in the water nonstop .
Martha and I loved having you hope to see you again next year.
Martha and Scott went above and beyond for my parents anniversary weekend. Martha knew my mom had a fear of small boats so she was kind enough to leave the party boat for them to get around! My mom was thrilled! The view is phenomenal and the whole family made some great memories...thank you and God bless!!!
A great place to spend a week with sunshine and kids!
Lure Cottage was just what we needed this summer! The cottage was stocked with most everything you would need. Pictures online were pretty true to reality. The bay side is a bit weedy but that's expected and our three boys had a blast swimming on the lake side! The sunsets are like none other in the world! We are not avid fisherman but brought some poles and bought some nightcrawlers. We caught close to 50 sunfish and perch off the end of the dock and even caught a big catfish! The hot tub is a godsend! It was my favorite place to hide out in the middle of the day with a glass of wine while the kids were playing.
Scott and Martha were extremely gracious hosts. They were at our beck and call for anything we needed. We loved it so much that were in the market to buy her own cottage now!
Quiet relaxing getaway
This was a nice relaxed, remote area cottage for a romantic weekend with my husband and also seems to be a great family area for all ages. We did not realize it was only accessible by boat until we received the directions the morning of our trip so make sure you do your shopping ahead of time. They have a pontoon boat to get all your bags and groceries to the cottage. Then you receiving a fishing boat of your own in addition to kayaks, canoes and a paddle boat you can use on either the bay or the lake. There were lots of people fishing but you need to bring your own pole and supplies if interested (we took the boat back to the marina and drove to Walmart 30 mins away and bought a cheap one). Scott and Martha were very welcoming and gracious to provide some of the condiments we forgot to bring. If your dog is friendly they can roam around off leash and there were frequently dogs coming by to say hi to our dog. All the dogs we met were very friendly and calm even if our dog barked at them initially. We also really enjoyed the fire pit and the hot tub at night. The neighbors were very quiet- no parties here. There are amazing stars with the lake area being without much artificial light at night. We laid on our backs on the dock one night and saw multiple shooting stars and tracked satellites. The bed was comfortable downstairs. We didn't try any beds in the loft but it looks like it holds a large group. The kitchen has all the cooking supplies you need... just bring your own coffee, condiments, cooking oil, etc. The only thing that needs improving is the bathroom and some of the seating areas. The toilet seat has a crack, shower is small and the bathroom has some stains. That said the shower was hot with good water pressure; just small. The main leather couch was nice but the upholstery on the other seating areas looked worn and dusty. But don't forget the gift basket! That cheese is amazing! We bought more at the stand on the way out of town. We also enjoyed the wine, crackers and chocolates. Thanks for a great stay! I would definitely come back.
Thank you for your comments. Didn't know the toilet seat was cracked. Just replaced it this morning. Martha is dry cleaning all the couch cushions as well. Your information really helps us keep up on the cottages.
We loved this property with the lake on one side and the bay on the other. There was tons to do with the kids: boating, fishing, kayaking, hot tubbing, and playing in the lake and bay. The owners were more than accommodating and very helpful. Do not expect luxury. It is a lake house not a hotel! Shower is very small and toilet takes a long time to fill. If you can see past the small inconveniences you are bound to have a wonderful time!
Just Incredible :)
I cannot begin to tell you how much we enjoyed our time at The Lure Cottage for our anniversary. The view is outstanding, the cottage cute & comfy, the rented pontoon perfect for a day on the water, and the host/owner super nice, available, and accommodating! We so enjoyed the cheese (YUM!), fire pit & jacuzzi as well. We didn't want to leave. Thank you for everything Martha, it was a true pleasure :-)
Free seaplane rides.
