Sanctuary in the Oakland Hills
This two bedroom, 1 1/2 bath family home was rebuilt after the Oakland Firestorm of 1991. It is now 23 years old. It is airy, full of natural light and a real sanctuary in the Oakland Hills with views of the Golden Gate bridge, San Francisco and the Bay.
The Upstairs master bedroom has a sitting room and french doors out to a patio with a gas fireplace and comfortable chairs to sit, sip some wine and watch the stars!! There is also the master bath with attached toilet room, shower/bath combination and linen closet. On the same level is a washer/dryer that is so quiet, one can go to sleep or sit in the rocking chair and read from the extensive library of books available.
The next level has a guest bedroom/office/2nd bedroom. Also with TV, smart box blu-ray player and controls to sound system through out the home. There is a trundle bed with one twin bed under the other. They can be put together for a king size bed. There is a printer and windows looking out on the dining room patio with BarBQue.
The main level has a living room, dining room and kitchen. The kitchen is completely stocked and one can work at the island and look out the windows onto the whole SF Bay area. The dining room has french doors opening up onto the patio, a dining room table that can be expanded for a dinner party (I have had 14 people for Thanksgiving!). The living room has a usable fireplace that is 100% environmentally friendly. Just off the Living room is a small bathroom with toilet and sink.
The kitchen has a door to the outside with a small patio that gets the morning sun and a cup of coffee can be enjoyed. Bushes make the patio very private but one can hear if a visitor or friend is coming up the stairs to the front door.
The front doors, as well as all doors in the home, were brought in from Santa Fe, NM and are beautifully waxed knotty pine. The walls are decorated with simple but elegant art.
There are stairs leading from the front door down to garage that have been blocked off for the use of the owner.

Very comfortable stay
We stayed a for a month at this property, along with our 7 yr. old dog.
Pros: Beautiful setting in the Oakland hills with gorgeous views, unique architecture & artwork, well supplied kitchen, great yard for our dog, easily accessible to freeways, shops, etc. Very quiet & private! The owner and property managers were welcoming and very responsive to our needs.
Cons: Needs a few upgrades, (slow hot water system that wastes water, dishwasher rack broken, TV system erratic). The yard also has a lot of unused "stuff" (old chairs, pots, etc stacked up, etc) that needs cleaning up. We didn't use the outdoor areas as it rained for much of our stay.
The property is built going up a steep hillside, so contains many stairs. It was fine for us, but would not be appropriate for those with mobility challenges.
Overall we had a great stay and would recommend this property.
Life changing stay
We were looking to move to the East Bay from Chicago so our family thought we'd rent a place for the summer to check it out. The home was perfect and was a main factor in our decision to move to the area.
The location was amazing. The Montclair Village was a short drive (or blood pumping walk) away which has adorable shops and delicious restaurants. We spent three months here and weren't able to go to them all. The views from the home are second to none as well. From the master bedroom you can see not only all of Oakland but the Bay, the Bay Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge and, when the fog clears, San Francisco and the Pacific. The house provided more than enough room for my husband and I, our son and our two dogs and it was stocked for everything we needed.
The most amazing thing though was the owner. Not only was she prompt with any question or need we had, she is so kind that we struck up a friendship from across the country. Knowing that people like her live in the area was another reason we wanted to move there. We can't express how happy we were with our stay!
Thank you so much Lisa. I, and the house, loved having you! You know that you are welcome back anytime. I look forward to the day we both live in the same city!!
Quiet, lovely stay in a house that is central to going anywhere
We spent almost 4 months in this wonderful home in the Oakland hills. By the way, it is in Oakland and not Orinda. The back yard is a haven of peace and sunshine to read or have coffee or write. Everything you could wish for is available.
It is located between two main freeways so it is easy to go anywhere. We went to Yosemite in just under 4 hours, Big Sur and Monterey in 2 hrs. It was so nice to come "home" to this house that is so comfortable and inviting.
The little village of Montclair was fun in it's own right. There was a Sunday morning Farmer's market that had the best roasted chicken and fruit and vegetables from the farm. It is 1.5 miles away so it covered most anything we needed in a pinch.
The beds are extremely comfortable. There are nooks and crannies to discover and be alone if needed as well as the main room to be together.
We would recommend it to anyone looking for a 'real' California vacation!
