Modern but cosy rural retreat in the heart of the Mendips

About Simon and Annette Tremlett
Annette, my wife and I, live on site and are therefore on hand to offer any advice that you may require and provide assurance in all aspects from cleanliness of the cottage as we personally prepare it to our standards before every guest arrives, to ensuring that any questions about the facilities and local area can be answered instantly. Both of us were born and bred in the area, although having lived for a short period of time nearer London, realised the error of our ways and came back for good. I have recently retired and Annette now works part time so we should be available at short notice if required. We both enjoy walking and are happy to share our knowledge and experience of keeping livestock, ours being treated more as pets than anything else. Renting out our cottage since 2011 has proven to be a great success and those that have stayed,we hope, are treated as our guests. Our cottage is our only rental and treated very much as a hobby, so you can be assured of our willingness to make your stay memorable.

What makes this Cottage unique
The views from this property extend over to the Mendip Hills and Cheddar Gorge. It's location allows us to indulge in our passion for walking, small holding in a limited way, and observing nature. We have a small barn for lambing our few ewes adjacent to the cottage, and often have sheep roaming the orchard next door to it. Outdoor pigs are also normally kept during the summer, and i am sure would be keen to meet you, particularly if you bring them food. If you enjoy walking then guided walks could be offered, something only recently possible due to my retirement. the historic city of Wells for example could be incorporated into a Mendips walk, or perhaps a stroll through woods, onto the top of the Mendips, then dropping back down to a local pub for refreshments. If, on the other hand you simply want to feed a sheep from your hand, then you are welcome to stroll with us to wherever they are grazing at the time. This area also lends itself to cycling, and in fact pretty much anything which requires the great outdoors. We consider ourselves very lucky to live where we do, and appreciate that we live where others come on holiday.

Simon and Annette could not have been more welcoming or better hosts. The cottage was spotlessly clean when we arrived and beautifully fitted out with everything we could need. The addition of the wine, beer, duck eggs and milk was a real treat - in fact the eggs were so delicious we bought some more! Thank you Simon for letting us try the cider - I think I liked it more than Hugh did! Annette, Penny just loved bottle feeding the lambs and we all enjoyed the company of the ducks when we sat outside. Again thank you Simon for taking us to feed and meet the pigs and also to meet your other sheep. We had the most fantastic week and could not have asked for nicer hosts or somewhere nicer to stay. Hope to be back soon!
Ideal base for a wonderful holiday.
Excellent location for all Somerset's tourists attractions. Very hospitable hosts who were there to offer advise if required. The cottage was spotless and very well equipped with everything one needed. The welcome pack provided was an unexpected bonus especially the duck eggs which we have been converted to. Would recommend this property without hesitation.

Lovely homely cottage in a beautiful location
Simon and Annette gave us such a warm welcome to their lovely, well-equipped cottage, which is situated in a perfect place for exploring Cheddar Gorge and the surrounding area. The views from the garden were stunning. The children loved meeting the resident ducks and sheep and Simon took the time to chat with them about the animals, which was very kind.
We really enjoyed exploring the area and would recommend a visit to Cheddar Gorge with it’s fabulous caves and stunning scenery; also a trip to Wells and Brean Down (lovely beach when the sun is shining and the walk to the fort was worth it too). Lots to see and do nearby and nice to come back to the cosy cottage every evening to relax.
Thank you for a very enjoyable stay!
Thank you so much for such a stunning review, we appreciate it greatly and are so pleased that you enjoyed your time with us.
We do try and ensure that our cottage has most things that you need to make it a home from home and it was good to hear that you enjoyed coming back to it each evening.
The ducks and the sheep will miss you, and next time we will try and fit in a trip to the lambs and hopefully have some pigs for you.
Thank you again for selecting us, and enjoy the rest of the summer.

Fantastic cosy cottage with all the mod cons well worth a stay.
Simon & Annette we’re very welcoming. The cottage was very well equipped & spotlessly clean. The place was very relaxing and peaceful. We visited Simon & Annette’s Sheep & Pigs and were able to feed & stroke them apart from Roger the Ram who was well known for being a bit grumpy. Simon was very knowledgable about the animals & we learnt a lot. The cottage location is quite central for visiting many attractions.
Wow, you don't hang about do you, thanks so much not just for going to the trouble of writing a revue but also for being so complimentary, we really appreciate it.
This is also a good time to thank you all for being such good fun, for appearing to laugh at my jokes, and for taking such great care of our cottage. We really appreciate the trouble that you must have gone to and sincerely hope to see some or all of you again in the near future.
Keep on laughing, as you did when you were with us.

Your girls were both great and a credit to you both, we loved having you stay, in fact you left the cottage so clean that we wondered if you had in fact stayed, so again thank you for that.
We would obviously love to have you all back any time, and yes, even "Marmite". He knows who he is...
