Once featured in the Sunday Times Travel Section, Casita One is a beautiful stone-house cottage renovated to the highest standards with reclaimed Istrian stone and old oak beams. An ideal choice to get away from it all, in a tranquil location, amidst the Istrian countryside, whilst being close enough to Porec and Rovinj to enjoy a wide range of sporting and leisure facilities. Casita One shares a private pool with Casita Two.

Brilliant house and pool, and close to nice town
A very nice stay, lovely garden, lovely pool and lovely house! Close to a really nice village/town and its close to lots of lovely cities like Pula. There are a lot of mosquitoes and wasps about so if you are allergic, bring some spray or tablets. Very good overall!!!!
Mandy's information was very helpful regarding car hire location facilities etc.
Property was clean and adequate for 2 people. Bedroom became extremely hot towards the end of second week when temperatures reached 37 degrees and the two fans were insufficient.
Local restaurants and food excellent and good value for money.
Porec Vrsar , Rovinj, Limski Kanal all worth visiting.
Pula for the Roman ruins
Thank you so much for staying at Casita One, we are really pleased that you liked it and had a great holiday. We welcome you back anytime.
With kind regards
Mandy, Jon, Alice and Emily
Brilliant correspondence before and after our stay. The instructions of how to find the house made it very obvious and easy. The property (casita one) was clean, as described and accurately represented in the photos.
We were given information on things to do in the area before our stay and there was more information when we arrived at the house. We were travelling with a little one and the owner had arranged a host of books, toys and equipment to help make our stay easy - we really appreciated this! We had a wonderful time even though the weather wasn't always kind to us. We would like to return to both the area and this accommodation and would highly recommend both.
Stunning Stone Cottage
We stayed in Casita One for 12 days in July, it is a beautiful stone cottage in a stunning region of Croatia steeped in history, there is a definite Italian feel to the area. You will need to hire a car as the cottages are in the small hamlet of Stranici, the nearest shop is 3km away in Sveti Lovrec. The owner's directions make it easy to find, whether you're flying in to Pula or Trieste airports.
On first impression the pool looks a lot smaller than it appears in the pictures, however it is quite a nice size, perfect for a quick dip to cool down. There is no air con in either of the Casitas, we knew this before we went but with July temp reaching 39 degrees it did become quite an issue. The plug in fans provided just circulated hot air around the room which made sleeping quite unbearable. The stone cottage was so hot inside and noticeably more so as you walked upstairs. The cottage is fully equipped with a good kitchen and washing machine, although it might be an idea for the owners to leave directions on how to use the cooker and washing machine as we had to guess and hope for the best. There is no wifi at the Casitas but every cafe and restaurant had free wifi.
Istria has an absolutely stunning coastline, but in terms of beaches it doesn't have the best. However, we found a small handful of nice beaches, they are all pebble beaches which turn to larger rocks as you go into the sea so you will need shoes to walk in the water with. Vrsar is only 20 mins drive away and the water was so clear, lots of fish, there are a couple of hotels in Vrsar, don't go to the beach by the hotels as it is crowded and quite small, go to the other side of the Marina, larger beach and less crowded. A little further away is Rabac, approx 1 hour drive, that too has a lovely large beach. The little town of Valun on the island of Cres also has a great beach, you'll need to get the ferry there. It took an hour to drive to the port of Brestova which is then a 20 min crossing to the port of Porozina on Cres island. It cost us 150kn each way for 2 adults, 1 car - that's approx £15 each way.
Other towns that we loved were Pula (45 mins drive) which had an amazing Roman Amphithetre rivaling the one in Rome, Rovinj (30 min drive) is a MUST see as it is absolutley beautiful and Porec too (20 min drive) has great little cobbled narrow streets that come alive at night.
4km from the cottages there is an amazing Grill restaurant called the Gradina Grill, you must try it, beautiful food!
Sounds like you had an amazing time at Casita One Jessica and really explored and enjoyed the best of Istria. You had some extremely hot weather during your stay - 39 degrees really is unusually hot even for July. The thick stone walls combined with the fans and double aspect open windows are normally more than adequate to allow a very comfortable nights sleep. Apologies that this wasn’t the case during your stay.
The washing machine and oven instruction manuals are in one of the drawers and we will ensure that these are more obviously available for future guests. Thank you for making us aware of this.
We absolutely understand your opinion about the beaches. Istria isn’t known for sandy beaches at all but the coastline, bays and access points are absolutely gorgeous and make the region feel rustic and untouched. Sea shoes (widely available) certainly do make a difference in most places, however if you ever return there is also a lovely small but sandy beach at Zambratija. We haven’t actually been over to Cres so thank for the tip with Valun.
Thank you for your review and your feedback and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Casita One.
Beautiful, well equipped cottage in a lovely setting. Casita one is the perfect place to explore Istria with Rovinj and Porec within easy driving distance. Peaceful village location and only a short drive to nearest shops and restaurants. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the cottage is well looked after and the pool and patio area a perfect place to relax and unwind.
Mandy was very helpful, responding quickly all our questions. Will be recommending to all our friends and family.
