Great house, great views. Thank you for letting us get away before heading back to the demands of school and life. Enjoyed the solitude and the space.

Beautiful location!

  • 3 of 5

This house has very comfortable beds, with nice linens and towels.  It has great potential as a rental, and we were happy to see the owners are completing some much-needed repairs. There are more than enough plates, glasses and silverware, but if you are planning to cook during your stay, you may want to bring measuring cups, measuring spoons, and plan around the fact that there is no mixer or food chopper. Although the house has 4 bedrooms, the dining table and the table on the porch will both only accommodate six people.  The walk out downstairs is covered by tall weeds and some trash, and surrounded by thistles as tall as a person,  so it isn't really available for use.  Splinters are a problem, so don't allow the kids to go barefoot, and the front railings on the deck are loose, so don't let anyone lean on them.  We were disappointed that we were told to check out an hour early to accomodate the group arriving behind us - we look forward to returning when the renovations are completed to enjoy the lovely mountain views and the beautiful house.

Havelock, NC

A great family reunion with family from North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Colorado!

  • 5 of 5

Although the house was well off the beaten path, it was a great place for a long weekend of laziness and reconnecting! The house was well equipped and had spectacular views. We did a few hikes in the area and drove to the Shenandoah National Park. Sperryville was having it’s annual ‘Yeaster’ and we enjoyed that. Easter morning we attended sunrise services and were welcomed by the neighbors. We had a nice fire each night.

We had only two negatives. The basement (where 3 of us slept) was freezing and when we arrived, there were hundreds of stink bugs that we swept up.

Great time!

Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. I am surprised the lower level was cold. I've never noticed that before. Our thermostat seems to be a degree or two off, though, so on cold days we often set it at 71 or 72. Stinkbugs are a problem in the Midatlantic, yes. The challenge they present is explained in our guest manual. We see small numbers of dead ones all year long. However, you were there in March, which is the time any that have been hiding in the house over the winter come outside. We have an exterminator come in five or six times a year, and we also fog a couple of times; otherwise, we could be dealing with thousands. They are an even bigger problem for farmers, as they destroy crops. Hopefully a solution will be found soon.
