Perfect quiet getaway
Our first initial impression of the place once we finally got there was definitely WOW. The house was huge inside and the surroundings including the dock with the kayak and the boats were stunning. More than enough space for what we needed including the kitchen and bathroom space necessities. Great living space with ample seating, nice open windows to let the sunlight in, never really got too hot either even in this blazing heat.
Some of the areas needing work are: kitchen utensils could be expanded/ upgraded, the little things like saran wrap and aluminum foil could be an addition that might make it feel like we were home. Especially because it is quite deep into the private road. Which might be the next thing: better directions/ address to getting there. While plugging the address in iPhone Maps was OK, its a hard place to find even with some of the local cab companies that we called for pickup. Upon arrival, we wanted to fire up the grill, no propane, but a simple phone call to Charmaine and propane was brought in no time. While the place is huge, some upgrades could be used inside the house; fixtures in and around the bathrooms & bedrooms for example.
When we left we got hit with a pretty undesired comment that we left the house essentially, upside down. While this was never our intention, the check out instructions could be more detailed. We figured the cleaning fee included in the booking would be able to take care of folding back the sofa bed and wiping down the counters. With the garbage taken out, most dishes loaded in the dishwasher and the recycling in one spot, the only things left were to clean up the towels and change the sheets. Those were really all we used, other than the patio and the grill. There was no damage done to the house but our damage deposit could be in compromise? Didn’t make sense to me but hey, your house, your rules.
Overall, it was a solid stay. We easily fit 8 people even with the two bathrooms alone. Lots of cutlery and dining plates to use for meals, towels, pillows, blankets were never short. Great house, great prompt service & communication with Charmaine, highly recommend.
Enjoyed our stay
This is a nice home with a good view. And, the location is very favorable - not far outside of Victoria, and also it served as a good launch point to visit some towns farther north on the island. Close to some good hiking as well. You'll find the accommodations fairly basic, but will meet most needs. One issue is that some of the amenities listed on the profile are not actually there. For example, a washer/dryer is listed in the profile, but the home doesn't have either. And, the profile says that a single kayak and single canoe are available, but that's not the case. The dock doesn't have anything for use by the renters. The "beach" referenced is a small stony shore with a fire pit, but is shared by users from other homes in the area. The kitchen was a bit under-equipped, so we bought the house a spatula and a colander that it needed. Notwithstanding these issues we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the place as a value stay.
Thank you for the review. Just want to clarify - There is a washer and dryer. It is in the small brown shed on the path to the left just before the house. The canoe and kayak are in the boathouse. We bring them out upon request not safe to leave out all the time. Thank you for adding those items to our kitchen. The kitchen was stocked with two colanders, perhaps they were misplaced. Thanks for staying with us wish I could have helped you with your concerns during your stay!
Well maintained, beautiful views.
Chris, the caretaker met us when we arrived. He was delightful and offered any help we needed. The house was clean and beautiful. VERY large living room area. Bedrooms and bathrooms are small as is the kitchen. Beds were comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.
Close to town away from the crowds
This was the perfect spot to base our family getaway to explore the Southern part of the Island. From Butchart Gardens to Cathedral Grove we were mid way and got it all done and more. Quiet, relaxing and the views!!!! 7 of us comfortably fit in and a nice well equipped home to make your stay easy. Thanks Charmaine for offering your wonderful retreat!!!!
Beautiful, very comfortable
Stunning view of the water and tucked into the woods. Very quiet. The home is thoughtfully organized. Directions to the property were great. I happily recommend this place!
A knockout rental. Rented for a girls weekend away, and couldn't have had a more wonderful experience. Fit 9 of us easily, without feeling crowded (the massive and open living room is fantastic, and view even more idyllic in person). Having the private dock was great (path down is slightly steep-something to consider depending on your guests). As an older property, it very clean and well kept. The seclusion and gorgeous greenery really makes for a relaxing retreat. Charmaine is a fantastic owner-immediate response and accommodated every need we had. Only heads up is the drive into the city (approx 30mins). Just something to take into account if you plan nights out/reservations in town. Thank you ever so much for providing the perfect location for such a memorable weekend for us Charmaine!!!
