About the property

Camp off the river! Fish, boat, hunt, and relax!

Camp in the Comfort of a Glamping Tent on the River! Fish, boat, hunt, and relax!

This is a spacious tent on the Ocklawaha River that has a screened in porch and locking front door. There is a queen sized bed, mini fridge, coffee maker, AC/Heat and two patio chairs. Outside the tent there is a fire pit and mini grill along with a picnic table. There is a separate renovated shared bathroom with shower available 200ft from the tent, as well as coin operated laundry. Bring your own boat or just fish from the pier while enjoying the sounds of the river! Great for folks who want to reconnect with nature but don't want to sleep on the ground in the heat! Camping with comfort!

Bring your boat, jetski, ATV, fishing poles, hunting gear and adventurous spirit! You will have access to the boat ramp, fishing pier, kids fishing pond, and boat slips are available to rent by the park.

Nelson's Outdoor Resort is one of the oldest fish camps in central Florida. Located on the Ocklawaha River the resort backs up to Sunnyhill Restoration; a nature sanctuary with 9000s of acres of natural Florida outdoors to explore. It is not unusual to be outside and see a flock of wild turkeys or deer.

This is a rural setting and does not have wifi or cable. The camp is home to several longtime and permanent residents some of which chose to display confederate flags. We are not responsible for how others maintain their lots and do not know who will be visiting from day to day. It’s not unusual to see pitched tents outside the glamping tent.

The good and the not so good

  • 2 of 5

The tent it self was OK. The thing that was not good in the cooking area area was that they had a SATIN covering on the table. It was like working on satin in your kitchen...impossible to clean...should be plastic. The setting was pretty, the people were surly in the office, especially Diana. No one helpful except Mike who was in another tent and was great when my electricity went out. I was told there was no wi-fi,which is what I kind of expected but found out later there WAS wi-fi but i was never given the code as there was no cell service either, it would have been nice. The fatal flaw is that it was SO close to a very busy road, the traffic never stopped day or night. I did see the overpass in the pix but did not realize that "The Villages" was so close and there would be so much traffic. That would ruin any camping trip for me. I met the owner my last day there, he was very nice but I would never return. No one had even tried to contact me before that. I AM a camper so did not have unrealistic expectations.

Cost is exorbitant. The unit isn't good. It is failing structurally and i could smell mold & milde

Too many fire ants. Since the grass was not mowed for a long time, other harmful insects were

hidden therein.

Owner's Response: The Glamping tent rents for $45 per night. The unit has a queen size bed that sits on a wooden floor not the ground. The unit has A/C; electricity; toaster oven; coffee pot, fridge, and a secure locking door. Guests are also given a key for private access to restroom complete with shower; sink; and toilet. The unit is maintained on a regular basis which includes power washing of the outside canvas to keep any mildew from growing which was done days prior to this guest check in. The inside canvas was also just repainted at the same time and canvas was examined and repairs made where needed which is an ongoing process. In addition each unit & linens are cleaned after each guest check out. The lawn service is maintained by the park, Nelsons, and is cut every Friday. Our contact info is given to the guest 24 hrs prior to check in and is also available at Nelson's office. Each unit also has an emergency contact # listed inside the unit for guests to be able to reach someone should there be an issue. I was personally on site throughout that weekend and spoke with the guest on multiple occasions and never was there mention of any concerns or issues. We want each of our guest to enjoy their stay and welcome feedback on ways that we may improve. Sincerely, Robin & Bonnie

Great

  • 5 of 5

Let's all remember this is camping. With that said it was wonderful. Air conditioner blew us out worked very good. New bathroom was great of course would loved it closer but then again it is camping. Grounds could use some new picnic tables. Marina needs updating. Ppl in tent area very nice. Mike a resident was so helpful and pleasant to hang around. Boat ramp does A lot of business. Campground will be even better if they ever get a store/bar open again. Only bad thing for us was old boat gas pump only takes old credit cards that don't have a chip. But has nothing to do with Miss Ashleys tent.

Thank you to all. We will be back.

Owner's Response: I apologize that your stay was less than satisfactory. I would like to share that the property is under new management and since we have renovated the bathroom. Please see the new pictures of the newly renovated bathroom. The park has made some changes as well. The old restaurant and bar is no longer there and the building is being remolded to be the new community Laundromat. I’ve also undated all photos to reflect a true representation of the tent and park.
