About Roberto Fumo

In a nutshell: Monica and I met in the Sacred Valley in the lovely village of “Arin” in 2009. I am a semi retired building contractor. Monica is a registered nurse and midwife. Shortly after we met, we decided to build a holistic center in the village ("The Source") which has since been passed on to a good friend of ours. We purchased our home in 2010. We then spent the next five years traveling between Peru, the US (my birth country) Spain (Monica’s birth country). In 2015, we were blessed with our Warrior Princess ‘Marina’. Since her birth we have decided to spend more time with the immediate family in Spain. As time and circumstances permit, we continue to journey back to Peru, our Home away from home.

Roberto Fumo purchased this house in 2010

Why Roberto Fumo chose Calca

Why did we buy this house? First, we fell in love with the Sacred Valley. We met and fell in love in “Arin”. When we decided to build our Holistic Center, and were gifted by the powers that be, the perfect space above the village and directly below the “Killaunu” waterfall. We knew this was home. We originally we’re renting our house. When the opportunity came to buy it, there was no hesitation. We love this village. We love the community. It's Family here. Home sweet home...!

La Vida Continua……

What makes this house unique

Peru, the land of Oz. Come and enjoy the magic of the Sacred Valley. The power of the Andes. The history and culture of the Inca Empire. Beauty and beyond.......

Perfect house and location!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our family of 6. Adam helped check us in, and he had great tips for our mountain adventures and restaurants. The setting is beautiful! If you stay here, definitely order a dinner or two cooked by the chef Adam can arrange. We failed to do so, thinking we would be able to pick up provisions in the nearby towns, but that isn’t easy! After a long day up in the mountains or out at Machu Picchu, it would have been nice to have a full dinner at the house. We just failed to plan ahead!

Rural, quiet escape from the city

  • 5 of 5

Roberto's house is a gem in the middle of rural Peru. The pictures on his property listing don't lie: it's really that beautiful. They paid attention to every detail and it shows. Warm, comfortable haven. WiFi is very strong so you can remain plugged in to the real world - though you may not want to! A 20 minute hike takes you to the foot of the waterfall located in the village of Arin. There, you can hike for about an hour exploring the trail leading up to the waterfall. Roberto made sure we were comfortable upon our arrival. He also has local English-speaking contact that helps you get situated. You'll want to have a driver to help you get out and about - like I said earlier, the property is truly in a rural area. Roberto connected us with Gabriel, a lifelong resident of Calca - he was very gracious and nice in helping us get from place to place. (Note there's not a ton of English-speakers in the area, so have your Spanish or translating app ready). You're about 1hr 15 from Cusco, 45 minutes from the train at Ollantaytambo. We stayed at Roberto's house from Sunday-Friday and made it a basecamp for our activities in/around the Sacred Valley. Cusco, salt flats, numerous Inca archeological sites and, of course, Machu Picchu. You'll want to do Machu Picchu over the course of two days because it's too much to do in one day. Take the train from Ollantaytambo, stay in Aguas Calientes the first day. Enter Machu Picchu early the next morning to get the full day of touring in. Take the train back to Ollantaytambo that night. Having Roberto's home there makes it real easy to pack a daypack and go explore - knowing you have a home waiting for you when you return. Muchas gracias, Roberto, Adam y Gabriel!! -Tim

Serene escape in the sacred valley

  • 5 of 5

This place was amazing! We had a baby, 2 grandparents, and an older daughter and we all fit perfectly with room to spare. The house offered a great quiet escape after the hustle of Machu Picchu, and was in a perfect location in between all great sites. The walk to the waterfall was also wonderful. The house was beautifully appointed, well constructed, and had awesome hot water (something not so easy to find in Peru!). I especially liked how they had filtered water to limit the amount of plastic used.

Robert and Adam were great and they were like my travel agents. Adam lived very close by and was present for any help needed and greeted us at our arrival, and was very responsive even had a crib all ready for us. Roberto even called me from a foreign country when on vacation with his family to discuss details. This was above and beyond .The cook he hired, Lordes, was wonderful! The drivers were excellent as well!

One thing I would mention is to bring warm clothes because it is COLD in the morning when you wake up (we went in July)! The space heaters a little small and don't warm up too much for the large rooms, and it takes a bit of effort to start the fireplace.

Also, I think we may have gotten Gringo prices for the drivers, but we also had a private and secure ride. Adam was very nice with helping us set up the drivers and giving us a discount, and we didn't have to do much searching and planning, so it was worth it.

Dream holiday come true!

  • 5 of 5

A group of us travelled to Peru for a medical mission. After working long hours for a week we were searching for a way to relax and enjoy beautiful sacred valley afterwards. From the moment I contacted Roberto he was so helpful! He gave me many great tips before our trip, arranged pick ups to and from the airport and set us up with the BEST tour group for Machu Picchu. He also arranged for His friend Indigo to come in and cook for us one morning. She was wonderful! The best meal I had in Peru! Our new friend Galonzo who helps Roberto with the house, met us on arrival and made sure we were well taken care of.

The house fit 6 of us very comfortably! The rooms are very clean, beautiful views and beds are comfy. They provided everything we needed! Towels, linens, coffee maker, dishes, microwave!

Our favourite part was sitting out back for morning coffee under the covered terrace listening to the birds and looking at the mountains.

This house was a real treat and we will be returning and telling all of our friends who are planning a trip to sacred valley to stay here! It won’t disappoint!

Thanks very much for everything Roberto and Galonzo!

Magical.

  • 5 of 5

We walked in through the gated doors to discover a hidden magical world inside. The house was immaculate, well stocked and extremely convenient with its amenities. The Andes wraps its arms around you in this breathtaking location. Robert, the owner was fantastic in going over and above what we needed as was the home manager, Adam. I only wish we had had more time. Thank you!

A popular destination for tourists to going Machu Picchu and numerous sacred sites located in the Sacred Valley. The Valley is a lush green valley lying just 15 km north of Cusco. Used by the Inca people, the valley was a highly prized site due to its rich agricultural lands. Inca ruins are now dotted throughout the valley and the land has a very Peruvian feel thanks to the many authentic villages and towns that populate the region.

The valley’s rich history and culture make it one of our favourite places in Peru. It’s also a great place to acclimatize to the altitude in Cusco as the Sacred Valley is lower down and gives tourists the time they need for their bodies to adjust. So, if you’re thinking of visiting Peru, then the Sacred Valley should definitely be on your list of places to visit.

"Pisac" Market/Inca Ruins:

The town was constructed over an original Inca settlement. Located close to Cusco, Pisac offers up the top market in the region! Every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday are Market Days in the Plaza de Armas in the main town on the valley floor. Shop for handmade crafts: aplaca weavings, blankets, clothes, jewelry, pottery and more. Packed with local produce and a wide array of locally produced arts and crafts, Pisac Market is the perfect place for a little shopping.

The ruins, which are located just 20 minutes drive from the town itself, are of fantastic quality and well worth the visit.

"Ollantaytambo":

A Beautiful little town located on the far side of the Sacred Valley from Cusco. Lovely cobbled streets and quaint cafes make this a popular destination among tourists. The town is probably the best surviving example of Inca town planning. Be sure to stop at Hearts Cafe for a lovely coffee and snack and then visit the Chocolate Museum!

The Inca ruins located in Ollantaytambo are absolutely brilliant and provide some of the best stone work outside of Machu Picchu. Used as a royal residence by Emperor Pachacuti, the temple and fortress are of extremely high quality and should be on anyone list of places to visit in the valley.

As the starting point for trips to Machu Picchu (the train station is here), we will be happy to help you to arrange/organize your adventure to Machu Picchu. The train station is only 40 minutes from our home.

"Moray" and "Maras":

Without doubt, the Inca ruins of "Moray" are one of the most interesting and beautiful ruins in Peru. Designed like a dug-out amphitheater, scientists are still baffled as to what the site was actually used for. The latest theory is that the Inca people were using it as a sort of test laboratory for crops – who knows!

Located near the ruins of Moray is the town of "Maras". The town is famous for its local salt-evaporation ponds that have been in use since the Inca period. The salt deposited here would have been shipped out across the entire Inca nation.

"Chincheros":

Many people in the Peruvian hills still work in a similar way to their ancestors. Weaving is one of the most popular crafts in Peru and still practiced by many village people. The village of Chincheros in the Sacred Valley is a great place to give the craft a go yourself! Chincheros is one of many villages that have a weaving cooperative and allow visitors to try their hand at weaving.

"Huchuy Qosqo":

It means “Little Cusco.” In this archaeological complex are the vestiges of a citadel as important as Ollantaytambo and Pisac. It was Inca Wiracocha’s favorite estate from where he could continue to govern. One must walk almost half a day to reach Huchuy Qosqo, a place that looks like it was once a majestic Inca palace.

Let's add kayaking, horseback riding, nature walks, the "Killaunu" waterfall. Or just relaxing from our front porch to soak up the peace and tranquility in the shadow of the sacred peaks of the "Patusaray" right in front of you.

Our staff will be happy to arrange taxis to and from the Cusco airport/Cusco

Taxis to and from destinations you choose.

Taxi with driver for all day use.

Tour packages for Machu Picchu, and all other sacred sites.

And this is only the beginning. There're so much to do, so much to see in the sacred Valley.

Enjoy the journey...!
