In the Heart of Huron - this location is what earned this house the well deserved nickname The Hub. This property is 2 blocks from the Lakefront Park and Beach, same distance to the more secluded Huron Cove Beach, and half that distance to the Huron Amphitheater and Boat Basin. A few steps further is Huron Harbor's "Mile Long" West Pier (actually 2/3rd of a mile) and Historic Lighthouse (c. 1835). Also, we are located barely 9 miles from Cedar Point and just up the street from the Huron Public Library (a Clevenet Location stocked with plenty of books and videos).
This Historic Home blends the old and the new in the center of a calm and quiet neighborhood. The Hub itself was built in the 1860's and features a "Widow's Watch" tower but the northern townhouse was updated from floors to ceilings in 2015. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms, a large common sitting room, and a bathroom with shower and tub. Downstairs is a living room, dining room, and see-through kitchen with island, adjacent to the outdoor patio. There is a grill and table with chairs plus plenty of bench seating on the patio. Towels and bed linens are provided and can be changed during your stay for a small additional fee - just let us know! The kitchen has everything needed to prepare home cooked meals including side-by-side refrigerator with water and ice, a gas oven and range, coffee maker and more. While this old style home tends to stay nice and cool (even in the hot summer) there is air conditioning upstairs and down if needed. We also provide free WiFi, cable, connected to the high definition flat screen in the living room.
Cedar Point (9 mi.) with its towering roller coasters and beach, plus Sandusky (10 mi.) with its historic downtown and burgeoning food scene are just up Cleveland Road. Jump on the Jet Express (High Speed Passenger Ferry) in Sandusky and you are a 20 minute ride from Kelley's Island with its bigger louder sister island, Put-In-Bay, just beyond. If you have a boat or jet ski with a trailer we have space to park it and you will find yourself less than half a mile from Huron's modern and free public boat ramp. There are three great public golf courses within a couple of miles - 18 hole courses at Thunderbird and Thunderbird North as well as the more challenging Sawmill Creek, a Tom Fazio designed lakeside course. Next door to Sawmill, natural beauty abounds at the Sheldon's Marsh nature preserve whose planked boardwalk leads out to a fabulous unspoiled mile long crescent of Lake Erie beach.
Across the River there is the East Pier and Nickel Plate Beach, another of Lake Erie's finest all sand beaches near which you'll find great food at the hidden and casual Sandbar Restaurant (great for a pizza or burger and a drink in your flip-flops) or Marconi's Italian which serves classic Italian dishes brought to this country by the Martello family. A bit further to the East is Old Woman's Creek Nature Preserve where Bald Eagles and diverse other birds and wildlife can be seen firsthand and even zip lining tours further east in the Vermilion River Valley. The Angry Bull Steakhouse is on the way and serves local beef and fresh flown in seafood in addition to fresh caught Lake Erie perch and walleye bites. Charter a boat from the Huron Boat Basin or simply walk out the Mile Long Pier and catch your own perch, walleye, bass, crappie, catfish, and more! Or get on the water by renting kayaks and canoes up the Huron River at The Coupling Metropark Reserve. Jet Skis and Paddle Board rental is available at nearby Sawmill Creek Resort.
Regardless of whether you come to do everything or do nothing at all Huron is a Great Lake Place... but you already knew that if you're reading this!
