Overview

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

If you are looking for a waterfront vacation with a Key West feel, then this is your destination. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! This home is located toward the end of the exclusive peninsula of Driftwood Isles and is at the end of the road. Once you arrive you will notice that the house is spread over two lots with vacant lots on both sides. Beautiful canals border two sides of the property. If privacy is what you want then this is it.

Step into the front door to a beautifully remodeled home done in colors with a Key West theme. Both bedrooms feature walk in closets. The living room boasts a queen sleeper leather sofa in front of a 50" large screen tv. The dining area overlooks the Florida room and oh, what a room it is. 12'X30' long and completely shielded from the elements (if you want) or open one of 11 large screened windows to let the Gulf breeze through.

Walk out through the Florida room into the back yard and be prepared to have your breath taken away. The view is spectacular with water all around. Sit on the patio and have coffee or under the corner umbrella to enjoy a cold beverage. Dolphins and manatees are almost a daily sight as they move through the canal or into the Gulf. Like to fish? Snook, snapper, redfish, sheepshead and large jacks all swim in front of the seawall.

Got a fishing boat? Tie it to the floating dock and keep it secure while you stay. His and hers bikes are provided so you can take a ride around and see the sights. A one car garage and two covered carports keep your vehicles out of the weather. Like palm trees? There are no less than 39 palm trees on the property and one of the largest ear trees that you will ever see. The shade covers all of the Florida room and part of the house.

Sitting out on the patio by the water at night is an experience that you won't forget. The neighborhood is VERY quiet at night .

About Ron Mattson

We are Ron and Lynda from Winter Haven, Florida. Lynda is a mortgage loan officer and Ron is a blueberry farmer. We are both lifelong Floridians and absolutely love the Gulf. We bought this house and worked like crazy over the last 2 years to make it our own. That's why it doesn't look like a rental because we remodeled it the way that WE wanted. We never had any intentions of renting it but had an opportunity to purchase another home in the same neighborhood so we jumped on it.

Ron Mattson purchased this house in 2014

Why Ron Mattson chose Driftwood Isles

Two words: The View.

Two more words: The Location. Driftwood Isles is kinda like it's own little world. Not part of town but close enough to bike ride there. Stuck out into the Gulf of Mexico, it has to be seen to be believed. Friendly mallard ducks, squirrels, all the wildlife that you could possibly want to see. Eagles, ospreys, diving birds, pelicans, parrots all call this area home. Just north of here is a wildlife preserve.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with the property the day we saw it and put an offer in on it that day. While it didn't look like it does today, the potential was always there. We had been looking in Hudson for over 2 years before finding this home and knew it was the one when we saw it. The feeling of being on the water and this close to the Gulf is unbelievable.

Excellent first snowbird experience

  • 5 of 5

My wife, Lily the Lowchen and I just left the “flip flop” house after a two-month stay.

The first morning there I was standing by the canal and a dolphin rocketed by me and did a full on, four feet in the air, Sea World leap. “Welcome to Florida”!

The house is a vintage property brought back to life with a lot of sweat equity by the two owners, Ron and Lynda. Lynda has a keen eye for decorating and the house says Florida at every turn.

All kitchen appliances and the washer/dryer are in good working order and functioned as expected. The kitchen has a good stock of silverware, kitchen tools, pots and pans, plates and bowls etc.. Both bathrooms have been redone and, like the rest of the house, were spotlessly clean upon arrival. The two beds have recently installed mattresses and are very comfortable. The sectional in the living room folds out to a queen size bed. WiFi is fast and Fios Tv offers a wide array of channels. The living room TV is the only one in the house.

In the garage, where the washer/dryer are located, there are two kayaks, two hybrid bikes, and a four burner BBQ. The kayaks are very stable and provide a vehicle for an easy paddle out to the gulf.

There is no “downtown” in Hudson however all daily needs are covered either on US 19 or Little Rd. Plenty of grocery stores and pharmacies within a few minutes drive.

There is an excellent butcher shop, Sigmone’s Acropolis Meats II. Two breakfast spots, Frank’s Diner and The Pit Stop are about 10 minutes away. Also within 10 minutes drive are an ice cream shop and two equally good gulf side restaurants, Sam’s and Inn on the Gulf. Other restaurants that are further afield but worth the drive are Argentos – Italian, The German Restaurant for, you guessed it, the Bone Fish Grill on US 54, Nikos on US19, Short Stack BBQ. Some of these are several miles away so Google map them before you commit.

Tampa Premium Outlets Mall is about an hour away east on US 54, worth the drive. Tampa is also about an hour south if you take the Sun Coast toll road, worth it, as US 19 can be very slow with traffic lights every couple of miles.

A final word about the owners. Ron and Lynda could not have been more gracious or welcoming. The amount of time and effort they devoted to reviving this property is obvious. They responded to all reasonable requests promptly. We could not have asked for better hosts and thank them for making our first “snowbird” experience a memorable one.

Owner's Response: Thanks Neil. You and Sue were as good as guests get. I must admit that we were a little nervous committing a full 2 months to any one guest but we are nervous no more. We can only hope that future guests are as kind and easy to get along with. We still have a couple of small things to make the house "perfect" and really appreciate your recommendations. If you ever get back down to Florida, give us a call. We would love to see you guys again! Ron & Lynda

The property was clean and well decorated. The corner lot made for an all around great experience.

We really enjoyed our stay at the flip flop house. We were able to dock our boat at the house and get in and out fairly easy during anything but low tide conditions. We saw manatees and dolphins every evening. The fishing didn’t turn out so great but we will be back to try again. What a great place to wind down.

Beautiful waterfront home

  • 5 of 5

The home was top of the line furnished even the sleeper sofa was very comfortable. We enjoyed the use of the kayaks and Ron and Lynda were right around the corner and offered to let us use the other two. We really enjoyed feeding Sassy the duck and all of the wildlife that we saw. We all had a fabulous time and will definitely be back! Thank you Ron and Lynda for the use of your home and for being great host.

I will start off saying, that this is one of the most relaxing vacation that I have had in years! The views were incredible! The ducks, dolphins and manatees were wonderful watch. We took our boat, and just getting out in the gulf where the water is so clear and you could see the bottom was amazing. Thank you for letting us share your Beautiful home!

Our stay was perfect - we were able to view dolphins, manatees, mullets and several types of birds. We went kayaking in the canals and the bay. The Flip Flop house has everything you need to have a comfortable stay. We will be back.

Hudson is a VERY laid-back town with a Keys kind of feel. No trip would be complete without visiting Sam's on the beach for waterfront dining and ice cream. A lot of accessible areas for bike riding.
