About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

This is a comfortable and cozy A-frame cabin in a semi woodsy setting, but it also has a yard with open space. You can see the Skagit Bay through the trees, which is about 150 yards from the house. The home is fully set up with all amenities for your comfort and enjoyment. There is an outdoor firepit as well. The cabin has a queen size bed and a long twin size day bed upstairs. It also has an inflatable queen size mattress that is typically used downstairs and a twin futon. Up to six are accepted. This property is a nice casual relaxing getaway to nature that also has many nearby cultural attractions to check if you want as well. It has nice style and character. It has casual, comfortable and cool vintage furnishings. The cabin has wifi and internet. Pets are allowed on the main floor. There's great boating and fishing in the bay and multiple small uninhabited islands that you can explore. Bring your boat and fishing gear or rent kayaks in town. The beach stretches for miles and Deception Pass is very close by. There are a couple places that do whale watching tours and also others that do guided fishing. There are lots of beautiful quiet roads to bike or walk on. There are lots of good restaurants to experience. Some of my favorite are Nell Thorn, the LaConner Brewery, Tweets, and Maripoza. There are a number of bars to check out as well as music happenings there too. There is a big art scene in the area and frequently there are good shows at the many local galleries and the Museum of Northwest Art in LaConner. There are a few live theatres and a movie theatre in Anacortes and Mount Vernon. It's also close to Anacortes if you want to take a ferry ride and explore the San Juan Islands. You can rent kayaks in town and explore the Skagit Bay and the Skagit River. There are lots of uninhabited islands you can go onto and a few miles of beach to walk. There is lots of good local produce and meats that can be gathered. The Skagit Valley is considered the bread basket of this region and there is also a lot of seafood. There are multiple farmers markets, Snow Goose Produce, a Co-op, The Breadfarm, Rexville Grocery. There are a number of bars and small town bands with dancing. There is a bowling alley and a public pool in Anacortes which are always fun outings. The bowling alley has a restaurant inside of it that has good fish and chips.

About Martin Duffy

I am a long time Seattle antique dealer. I have been vacationing in the Skagit Valley since the early 1970's. Me and my family use to stay on a 90 acre cow farm with the most spectacular territorial views of the Skagit river, Skagit Delta, local islands and the Skagit Bay. At that time my mother was part of two archeological excavations that happened on that property and a neighboring property. We have continued to return to the area, drawn by it's natural beauty, fresh local bounty of food, good art, local farms, activities of myriad types, water sports etc.

Martin Duffy purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Martin Duffy chose La Conner

Guestbook comments from the manager

April 20, 2016 We stayed in the cabin for almost 2 weeks and it became our “camp” away from home. We really enjoyed our stay here in LaConner and here in the woods!

Great little cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is nice and the wood fire makes it cozy. We walked down to the beach and had a great time. Great place to bring kids and your dog.

Super cute & clean cabin nestled in the woods

  • 5 of 5

The pictures just don't do this adorable cabin justice. It was a lot bigger than I expected. I took my 4 grandkids and we all had more than enough room. The owners have stocked all those little misc. items you might need, the kitchen has ample supplies, and there was plenty of extra bedding and towels. This made my trip much easier than planned. Definitely want to rent this for an extended weekend during the winter, with a wood burning stove, plenty of board games, and the beautiful scenery, it would be perfect for a family gathering. Thank you, Lucinda R

Nice cabin in a beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in the cabin with 5 other people for a little over a week. There was plenty of room for all of us, and the cabin was in good condition. The kitchen and bathroom were well equipped with everything we needed, and the bedroom was plenty big enough to fit us all. Since there were six people, some of us had to sleep on the floor, but there were mats to sleep on that were very comfortable. The area is very nice for hiking, fishing, and boating. We had a great stay and I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation.

Inhospitable host, broken equipment!

  • 1 of 5

Let's start with the positives. The neighborhood is great. La Conner is great. The weather was great (surprisingly) but I would find elsewhere to stay.

As you'll note in this image, there is no rail nor hand rail on the deck. A fierce violation of building and safety codes and especially an issue for anyone needing a little stability in their efforts. The place is heated with space heaters, one of which is broken and malfunctioning - not very comforting when you sleep in a loft fed by a ladder with no escape from the second floor. If you want additional warmth, you are relegated to splitting your own wood (provided) which is exceptionally green. Large rounds that take substantial effort with a wedge and a sledge if you're so inclined. Not for the faint of heart however. The furniture is sub par (only chair being the broken rocking chair) and whilst splitting some wood the head flew off the hatchet and nearly struck my wife in the head. Nice. The provided glassware had lip prints on them... ALL of them. Had a glass of water and had to wash dishes and similarly when I got a glass of wine. Nice.

We booked this for 3 days and the host only posted it for 2 which I didn't notice. When it was discovered the 3rd day when the maid showed up unexpectedly, I was then charged for the errant maid run and another round of VRBO fees. I then exchanged a handful of emails with the host Marty regarding his errantly booking me for 2 nights instead of 3 and he ultimately referred to me as a "Jerk Hole" as he thought it quite benevolent of himself to charge me these fees due to his error. He then concluded by inviting me - my family - and anyone I know to NOT ever book his property in the future. I think that goes without saying.

I would find elsewhere. If negative stars were possible I would have obliged him with half dozen.

I might add that he has festooned the property with 4 derelict boats and a derelict old station wagon just to add to the ambiance.

This A-frame is secluded and rustic.

  • 3 of 5

I am wondering if this A-frame should not be listed in the winter. We arrived on icy roads to a very cold building. There was only a small electric heater. Fortunately we were able to find a splitting maul and cut logs. This was difficult considering it was dark and nothing was easily placed for visitors. It took over 6 hours to heat the place. The property also needs up-keeping such as screwing in the toilet paper holder and cleaning up mold on the windows. It is comfy when warm.

Owner's Response: It's true that we don't leave the heat on at all times so it will have to get warmed up when you first get there. We have added additional heaters upstairs and downstairs. There are lots of seasoned rounds of wood for anyone interested in splitting them to make a fire. I think that what you referred to mold on the windows was debris that had fallen from the trees on the slanted windows. Being slanted and close to trees makes them more of a challenge to keep clean at all times. I have a cleaning crew that typically does the minor maintenance but for some reason it sounds like the toilet paper holder didn't get put back on the wall before you arrived. It is back on the wall now. We apologize for that. It has been taken care of.

Lots of beautiful places to get out and explore the natural beauty of the Skagit Valley and it's surrounding waters. This fertile land and waters provides an abundance of fresh local foods that can be found at produce farm stands, farmers markets, groceries etc. There are many art galleries in the area and an excellent museum in LaConner. Tulip season is a major attraction every year as well as the Snowgeese migration. The fishing and crabbing is excellent in season. There are many festivals especially during the summer months.
