A lovely, relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

The house is both comfortable and spacious, with 1950's charm and a huge terrace which offers both sunshine and shade for long lunches overlooking the sea. It is just steps from a very nice beach and a beach bar with great coffee and hot croissants for breakfast. We didn't have a rental car but the property is just minutes walk from the shops, a supermarket and numerous bars and restaurants of Isola Rossa, a small and charming seaside village, peopled by incredibly friendly and helpful locals. If you're looking for a relaxing time, doing very little but enjoying the sun, the sea and mountains of pasta a la vongole, you're in luck.

fabulous. loved waking to the sound of the sea!

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous! loved the fact we had the beach all to ourselves first thing in the morning and in the evening. Great views from the terrace. If we fancied a six o'clock beer on the beach, it was just a few steps up to the house and the fridge..Loved the beach cafe also. We stayed both in the upstairs house and in the basement flat (alternating with our friends). I loved the cool basement - and from there we could hear the sea when we woke up. fab.

Hugely Dissapointing

  • 1 of 5

We rented the annex which is a standalone 1 bedroom accommodation without tee/drinks or cooking facilities although there was an old fridge and a non functioning gas cooker left in the living room. The bedroom was dark, damp and musty, flaking paints on the walls with an old smelly granny wardrobe. There was a small desk fan provided for the room which we found useless. We didn't sleep in the bedroom as it was deem unhabitable due to the smell, flaky paints, cobwebs and dust so we ended in the living room. The living room had 2 single mattresses and a coffee table with no sofa. Our first night was a nightmare, it was very stuffy, the toilet wasn't working and leaking water from the cistern push button. Since we slept in the living room, we had to endure the noise of water flowing in the cistern all night as we couldn't find a stop cock for it. The next morning, we woke up with the living room flooded from the leaks. The bathroom has no floor trap so any leakage or water spills will flow out into the living room. After every shower, the bathroom floor needs to be wiped dry as shower water tend to splash out from the shower cubicle. The shower curtain couldn't contain the splashes no matter how careful we were. There is a second room used as a store room and locked. During hot weather, especially at night it got unbearably hot and stuffy as we had to rely on a single floor standing fan to cool the space whilst the door had to be kept closed to keep insects and giant black ants out of the annex. The noise from the fan could drown ones conversation if it is set to a maximum speed. We also found that there are serious falling hazards. To access the annex and main house from the front gate in the evening, you will need a torch to see where you going or else there is a danger of falling or trip hazard as there's no external lightings that work.

To summise, the annex accomodation and the outdoor space are badly maintained and a huge disappointment. We wrote to the manager upon our return to inform him of the problems but received no acknowledgement. However, he did send a plumber out the next day after we called him to inform him of the problem.

We would not recommend the annex until it is fully repaired or maintained. If this annex is intended for storage use, it shouldn't be offered for rent. It could have been a perfect week for us if it's not for the accomodation as Isola Rossa is a very pleasant place to be.

Owner's Response: I feel so sorry for these guests who have suffered in the anex because of a leak in the plumbing system. Meridiana is a beautiful house with a unique position on the beach and it is very rarely that guests experience this sort of problem. I was able to get a plumber in the next morning but it seems to have taken some time for the room to dry out. The annex is not rented as a stand alone flat it is supposed to be an overflow for the guests in the main house. No mention is made of the main accomodation which has 2 bathrooms and an enormous living room and fully equiped kitchen beautiful terrace etc so I'm not shure what the holiday arrangements were in this case.

Perfect villa in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We visited Isola Rossa out if season (mid-Oct) with our 21 month old daughter, we were lucky with the weather and had the beach almost to ourselves most days.

The location of the villa La Meridiana was perfect, a large veranda with both a shady and sun area directly overlooks the beach. Just a few steps down to a very family-friendly beach and less than 5 mins to the centre of the village with a choice of restaurants (3 were open when we were there, but I think there's probably double that during the peak season).

The villa is really well equipped, including a washing machine and dishwasher and two very powerful showers. The owner also gave us some great advice on where to visit in the area and a tip to visit the market on a Monday in nearby Trinita, worth it for the Pecorino cheese and spicy salami.

We have been lucky enough to travel quite extensively, and our week in Sardinia was one of the best trips we've ever had.

Wonderful house, clean, spacious, beautiful settin

  • 4 of 5

our memories of Sardinia are beautiful landscape and peaceful island. Our house was ideally placed at the end of a beautiful beach near a quaint village. The house is very clean and spacious with all modern convenience. We found the house ideally located on the beach which allowed us (parents) to sit on the terrace while the kids played for hours on the beach below.

We arrived Easter Sunday on a beautiful day but the place was pretty much closed down due to Easter holidays. What made our holiday special was the level of hospitality shown by David by providing a full food shop that kept us going until the shops opened the following day; the extra blankets and wood to keep us warm at this cooler time of the year; and his availability to respond to our questions and queries.

I am happy to highly recommend this house as an ideal home from home.

Isola Rossa is an old fishing village on the coast of North West Sardinia, located halfway between Castelsardo and S. Teresa di Gallura. It owes its name to a small island, which is located 500 meters from the mainland. In a coastal area of outstanding natural beauty, Isola Rossa enjoys excellent tourist facilities. The village has several beautiful beaches of fine white sand, including 'La Longa' and the panoramic bay of 'La Marinedda'. The coast is characterized by red granite rocks, evergreen Mediterranean scrub and clear crystal waters.

The turquoise seabed is full of every species of flora and fauna, and ideal for fishing or diving.

A modern marina provides a delightful harbour for all kinds of pleasure vessels and Isola Rossa with its local shops, restaurants, cafes and night spots, is a major tourist destination sought after by travellers from all over the world!
