An exraordinary apartment oozing with history!
A truly Venetian experience, an extraordinary apartment. It is only a 15min water taxi ride from the airport, apartment is canal side so door to door(only 100 euros for 6 of us,Daniele gave us the booking link, worked well to and from). He greeted us to book in with plenty of advise and a welcome basket with all we needed to settle in.Up two wide sets of stairs then step in to an amazing historic room with a balcony at one end.Off of this room is a lovely formal dining room with an old bar area and balcony with views of the canal, bridge and the lagoon which is only a few mins walk away.Off of the other side of the main room is the kitchen dining area with one double bedroom (with balcony)a modern bathroom and single/dressing room with single bed and pull out bed under.Leading up is a spiral staircase, wide steps and not too steep, up on to a mezzanine type landing. There is a very generous sized private double bedroom, another modern bathroom and two more single bedrooms. The two single bedrooms do not go all the way to the windows and so do look down into the lower level double and single but only by a metre or so, with banisters. This could lead to some privacy/noise issues depending on the family set up for some groups, possibly? I also would not recommend it small children because of the fall risk.Up four flights of stairs is a shared roof terrace (we never saw anyone else up there) there is the most spectacular views of the whole of Venice and the lagoon! When you are at the top of St Marks bell tower you can see the roof terrace! It is a lovely way to rest the feet after all the sightseeing walking that is a must in Venice (you just have got to get lost there) to drink in the view and sun bathe a little. There are a few fold up chairs and a table to use. The terrace can only be used until sunset though. The location of the apartment is very good, it is a quiet, more residential area but is only a short walk to the main sights.Only 2 mins walk from the water buses and taxis to use too. We did a day visit to islands of Torcello,Burano and Murano, well worth it, they are very different from one another and from Venice. There are a few restaurants close by, only a few mins walk.We loved DaAlvise, friendly, great sea food, pizza, sit waters edge to dine, enjoy great cocktails and see amazing sunsets.Within in a 10 min radius there are many other restaurants toc.Apartment is clean andwell equipped with all one needs for a lovely stay.We loved it's atmosphere.
Thanks for the wonderful and really helpful review
I hope to have you as our guests again.
Large Apartment - Very Good Condition
Our family of six people stayed for three days. We found the apartment to have beautiful decor through the majority of the apartment and all the conveniences you would need. The roof patio provided a spectacular view but seating furniture would be a big bonus. The only areas needed for improvement would have more comfortable seating available, deep clean the interior, was very dusty in places and could use a thorough dusting/polishing. Also the addition of the upstairs added a funky 70's look to the apartment which took away from the grandeur of the other parts of the apartment.
thanks for your review.
I immediately contact the maid service to report your complains; they apologize and answer, as a mitigating factor, they had to quickly prepare the apartment booked for two people, while you present in six.
I apologize, however, for the inconvenience which in any case could be solved with a simple communication and an additional cleaning.
An Elegant Apartment
This is a very beautiful second floor apartment (but no elevator). The furnishings look to date to the 18th century and are very tastefully done. This is an unbelievable apartment, but not for children or anyone clumsy. Daniele met us at the apartment and showed us everything we need to know to make our stay enjoyable. (He also came to inspect the apartment the morning we left to assure the antiques in the apartment were intact)
The apartment has a double and a single bedroom on the main floor and a double and two single bedrooms upstairs (small spiral stair case to get to second floor). The problem with the two single bedrooms on the second floor is that they look over the balcony INTO the two bedrooms on the main floor (there is not full ceiling over the two main floor bedrooms).
There is a washing machine (no dryer) in the kitchen (large kitchen), and a nice breakfast area as well as a formal dining area in a separate room. There is a very large sitting area as you walk into the apartment. The apartment is very spacious throughout. Additionally we had access to the roof where we had spectacular views of Venice. This would have been better if there had been a table and chairs up there to sit and enjoy the view, but we still enjoyed it.
The apartment is a very short walk to restaurants and to the water bus stop (make sure if you take the water bus in the evening, you ask if it will still be running back to the apartment area when you want to get back. We didn’t and were dropped off a long way from the apartment and had to rely on others to get us back to the apartment.
Venice is very expensive and the water taxis are VERY expensive. Have a good map and hand held GPS or you will be walking into dead ends throughout the city.
Like Staying in a Museum
PROS: Gracious host (Danielle) always available by telephone. Spacious 4 bedroom, 2 dining rooms (one formal with 17c antiques), bar room with 50 year old Italian wines, massive salon living room with 16 foot ceiling and walls decorated with 17c tapestries, plaster bas reliefs, and 300 year old antiques everywhere. Very quiet area of north Venice just 2 minute walk to a major water bus terminal with direct connections to airport and outer islands (Murano, etc.). 20 minute walk to St. Marks, 10 minute walk to Rialto Bridge. Unlimited hot water. Wonderful welcoming basket with many local foods and a real Venetian mask. The history of Algarotti is fascinating (bisexual polymath contemporary of Voltaire) - being in the apartment is like living in a museum. Really quite stunning for someone who grew up in L.A. suburbia. Would definitely return and stay here next trip to Venice.
CONS: WiFi was either slower than dial up or was not working. Had to use WiFi at the local coffee shop. Master bed is short - ankles off edge (I'm 6'-5"). Algarotti's ghost shook my shoulder and woke me up one night.
The historic building of Cà Corniani Algarotti is located in Cannaregio, Venice Sestriere. It is located five minutes walk from the famous Rialto Bridge and the Ca 'D'Oro. With fifteen minutes walk you reach Piazza S. Marco. A hundred meters, the New Fondamente, there are public transport to all parts of Venice. This provides easy connections to the main islands of Venice: Murano, Burano and Torcello. The building has a 'water bank': with water taxi takes you directly to the house. Always a five minute walk to the Civil Hospital of Venice. The area is well served with shops, supermarkets, restaurants and pizzerias.
