Stonegate Loft is one of the most unique, yet contemporary properties in York. This 4-bedroom duplex apartment has been converted and refurbished to the highest of specifications whilst retaining all its quirky, endearing, historical features. Located on one of the most attractive and architecturally varied streets in York, only 100 metres from York Minster, Stonegate Loft is at the heart of everything York has to offer.
Stonegate Loft is accessed via its own doorway between the Jigsaw and Whistles stores opposite Little Betty's Tearoom. A grand, private entrance opens into a beautiful stone hallway. The apartment is located on the first and second floors. It combines modern luxury with a nod to the past. The rooms are surprisingly spacious and comprise, on the first floor, a stylish eat-in kitchen, a separate dining room, a fabulously large living room with a 42" Freeview TV with Netflix, an office space with a desk and chair and a large double bedroom and bathroom number one. A staircase under a light-filled atrium leads to two further double bedrooms on the second floor, one with an en-suite bathroom, again on the second floor. The space is really flexible and can comfortably accommodate smaller groups of 4-6 as well as larger groups of 8-10. Whether exploring Yorks historic gems, browsing the galleries and museums, splashing out at the shops or glamming it up at the races, Stonegate Loft is the perfect place to make your base.

Stonegate is one of Yorks most historic and photographed streets; a vast array of shops, restaurants, galleries, museums and bars are within a stones throw - as are Yorks 365 pubs...one for each day of the year!
Stonegate has been one of the City's key thoroughfares since Roman times, when York was called Eboracum. As the Via Praetoria, Stonegate led from the legionary headquarters, the remains of which can still be seen under the Minster, and down to the bridge which connected the fortress with the civilian settlement on the other side of the Ouse. The Roman road may have given the street its name, although France Drake records in 1736; 'it hd this name given as is said from the vast quantity of stone lead through this street for the building of the cathedral'. From the Middle Ages, the top of the street fell under the jurisdiction of York Minster and was home to related trades and crafts. Goldsmiths, printers and glass painters all had their premises here and have left their mark over the centuries.
In fact, Stonegate Loft sits above an erstwhile famous shop, frequented by HRH Queen Mary, who had a penchant for fine chinaware. This shop is now part of the fashionable Jigsaw retail chain. The grand entrance to the apartment sits to the right of the shop and leads into a beautiful stone, private hallway.
So central, everything is within walking distance. Stonegate is a very popular, pedestrianised street in the very heart of the City of York. The train station is only a 10-minute walk away and there is a taxi rank just by the Minster, only a minute away. There are copious car parks nearby. Due to it's super central location, car access to Stonegate is limited to 5.30am-10.30am.
