Our 2 week vacation at The Garden House was a home run at every level. The house exceeded our expectations – easily 5 stars. As other reviews pointed out, the pictures don’t do it justice. It is completely private and first class. It has lots of light and large windows that easily open to the garden. We love to cook-in versus going out (taking advantage of the fresh ingredients from the fantastic markets). The kitchen had every tool we needed (and high quality to boot). When we did go out to eat, there were many great local options close by. Attention to detail is obvious at every turn. The property, pool and garden are all breathtaking. And the setting ideal for an artist to work. My husband was so relaxed in the environment, he finished 2 paintings. There are some walking/running paths close by, too. The highlight of the vacation was developing a new friend in James Clay. He was an ideal host, very attentive, and made excellent recommendations for places to visit – especially horseback riding! We even cancelled our plans to go back to Paris for the remaining 4 days of our vacation to stay longer in Provence. Unfortunately, The Garden House was already booked for those days, but James helped us find another place for us to stay at. My husband and I love to travel. Our vacation at The Garden House was by far our most fulfilling. We plan on returning!
My husband and I rented this gem for a week, and were thrilled with it! It is comfortable, tastefully decorated, has all the amenities, and is conveniently located 3km from St. Remy. Out in the countryside, situated in a stunning garden, it is a private oasis. It has a beautiful pool and jacuzzi, as well as a lovely outdoor area to sit and relax and take in the garden setting. Each morning, rays of sunlight streaming through the olive grove and blooming red poppies would cheerfully greet us to start our day. James, the owner is very helpful, and a delight too! We highly recommend this little gem for your visit to the area.
We (husband, son, daughter-in-law) loved the Garden House. The pictures don't do it justice. The house feels new and all the rooms felt spacious with high ceilings. The shower was fabulous, the beds and linens superb, and it was deeply quiet at night. I loved the tapestry in the living room and the furnishings are to a high standard. The owner, James, clearly cares about aesthetics.
James left us a very welcome basket of delicacies and treats upon arrival. As we had gotten turned around on the way there and had not had time to stop for food, this was a god-send.
We loved taking advantage of the expansive outdoor olive garden, a couple little mini-specialty garden nooks, the relaxing hammocks, and the beautiful pool area. With four of us, we could each spread out and have our own space, whether inside or outside. My husband and i enjoyed a walk into St. Remy one day (~1 hour 10 minutes) along a Roman Canal. It was quiet, pretty and peaceful. Ask James how to get there.
We also cooked dinner most nights and enjoyed eating at the table in front of the house. James showed us how to get to a great large grocery store that had everything we wanted. This way we could stay home and relax after busy days visiting Arles, Pont du Gard and Avignon.
James was a delight and made the whole experience more personal. While he had great suggestions about the local area, what we enjoyed most was a happy hour with him where we discussed art and life in Southern France among other topics. James has lived all over the world and chooses to live at this property which is a great endorsement alone.
All four of us strongly endorse the Garden House for a special stay in the St. Remy area.
"Just right." That's the phrase that best describes our experience of The Garden House, just outside St. Remy in Provence. The cottage is just the right size for us two (and another one or two, if we had traveled with others). It has just the right decor; just the right garden; just the right-size swimming pool and jaccuzzi; just the right kitchen equipment (we do love to shop at the local markets and cook with local ingredients); just the right relaxing areas outside (we ate under the olive trees and enjoyed the wind-fallen figs from the trees on the property!). James C. is just the right host, who gave us just the right information about the cottage and how to use it; about St. Remy and its restaurants; about the many charming towns and villages easily accessible from the property (none more than 45 minutes away; some as close as ten minutes' drive). He went out of his way to see to our comfort, even kindly doing some minimal food shopping for us prior to our arrival, knowing that we'd have been traveling for more than 24 hours and subject to time change problems. Superlatives can be in-credible, we feel; so saying that James's Garden House (in fact the entire property on which he's worked for more than 20 years, creating another "Eden"), is "Just Right" is the just-rightest thing that we can say about our very happy two weeks there.
James, thank you for making the reservation easy and painless. Your property is in a perfect area for visiting Provence and I highly recommend this place for anyone planning a trip to Provence. St Remy de Provence is a fantastic village with many wonderful restaurants. A big plus was the wonderful farmers market. As for the property itself. It is absolutely beautiful. The picture do not do it justice. The pool, hammocks, garden, patios with comfortable chairs made coming home every-night a little piece of heaven. Its a perfect setting to light up a cigar, crack open cozy book while spending quality time with your family. Again, I highly recommend this place if your looking for a charming place to stay in Provence.
Just wanted to let you know that we had a fantastic 2 week stay at The Garden House in July. It was one of the best vacations we’ve ever had. The Garden House was our base camp for the numerous day trips we took throughout the French countryside as well as our sanctuary where we could totally relax . We thoroughly enjoyed your beautiful gardens and especially the pool area and it’s garden of sweet smelling lavender. I think Donna was in the pool each and every day. We came to France for some adventure as well as to find a place where we could get some rest and relaxation. The Garden House was an excellent spot for both. The nightly visits from Jack (your cat) were also a highlight. We’ll miss him.
Thanks for making our vacation so memorable and for treating us like family. We’d recommend your Garden House to anyone who wants a place where they can relax as well as a place that’s close to many exciting attractions.
Paradise is not lost ……. It is indeed found at the Garden House……..

This September, we had the wonderful experience of spending 7 nights at the Garden House. Even though I thought from the pictures and description, this would be a nice place, it far surpassed our expectations. The house was very comfortable for two couples but the garden and pool area were exceptional. it was very relaxing and comfortable, and the host/owner James met our every need. St Remy is a great central location for exploring the hill towns of Provence. We could not have been happier and hope to return again.
Gliding - locally.
