About Jon Gold
We are Brits abroad! We moved to Arizona 11 years ago and this is where we moved to. Great house, lots of space and a beautiful quite neighborhood but with lots to do nearby. Very different environment to where we grew up, there is whole lot more sunshine for a start!
Jon Gold purchased this House in 2004
Why Jon Gold chose Fountain Hills
We just loved the tranquility of the area and the views are truly spectacular. sitting outside at sunset is one of the best times of the day with gorgeous skies and welcoming weather. You can take a short drive to the Fountain where you will find restaurants, bars and a children's play area. Try your hand at Frisbee golf while you are there too. If you like to run, hike or cycle you will love it here.

The property lived up to its claim of fantastic views!
We loved the glass window feature that allows sun in and such beauty to be viewed. The master suite was lovely, jacuzzi tub a must use every day!. Jon was very accomodating, appreciated that. Pool access is somewhat limiting, but we adapted quickly. Would definitely come back again.
Although this is a beautiful home (from the outside) in a great neighborhood this property should NOT be listed on VRBO because the people who own the home live in the basement - something I have never had happen in the 7 years I have been renting VRBO homes.
But, that is not the worst - the carpeting in this home is disgusting - so dirty you want to keep your shoes on 100% of the time. Plus, the couch in the family room is so worn out that when you sit down in it you sink past the frame - truly the worst couch I've ever sat on. But, then again - why sit? That big screen TV shown in their pictures with "Basic Cable Provided" (as listed in their post) IS NOT HOOKED TO ANY CABLE SERVICE. So, during our off hours in March when we were excited to watch March Madness we were met with snow on every channel.
To make matters worse the BBQ and the beautiful pool shown in the listing with the caption "View of our pool" - it is just that - THEIR POOL! You have to walk out the front door through the rocks and bushes down a hill to a fence which has a latch at the very top to access the pool (hopefully you are over 6 feet tall). Plus, the pool would more completely be described as a "polar plunge" because it is so cold you can't get into it.
You feel totally uncomfortable even being in "their pool" because their living space in the basement has big picture windows that look out onto the deck so you always feel like you are being watched.
A week before my arrival the owner sent me a letter sharing the fact that they live in the basement and the lack of cable and that you had to access the pool from outside the front door. I immediately searched for a hotel or replacement VRBO house but it was too late. So, I sent an email expressing my disbelief about them living in the house and the lack of cable and the pool situation and was met with only conciliatory remarks about how they wouldn't be home for two of the nights were were staying.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOUSE
This is very disappointing as it is our first negative review. I accept that everyone should have the right to complain if they are not happy but this review is unnecessarily vindictive. The first comment about us living in the house is 100% untrue. I did say that we MIGHT be there for a night or two in the totally separate apartment downstairs. We have to do this occasionally as the house cannot maintain itself. In the event, because of your comment, we did not do that. Did you see anyone? No, because we were not there. I did not say that we would NOT be there for 2 days, I said we MIGHT be there for 2 days. In the end, it was zero.
The carpets do have some marks but they are cleaned regularly and will be changed at some point soon.
We do not have basic cable anymore as it had very little worth watching so we now have an Apple TV unit which has many more options including 3 live sports channels and free movies to you on Netflix. I am sorry if you have not had experience of one of theses units but this was clearly explained in the information I sent prior to you visiting. If you had read it and had any problems you could have emailed or texted me, I would have happily told you how to use it.
I hope that you have happy stays in the future at an alternative property.
An ok stay.
The house it's self is a nice house with a great view. Now having said that I think it was an "uncomfortable" house. For as nice as the house is the furnishings look to be of a frat house. The carpets are either very dirty or stained and the owner acknowledged this issue. One of the extra bedrooms had cot like beds not actual beds. We had to go through the house to provide that bedroom with some kind of dresser for our guests. We asked the owner, and he agreed, if we could buy a couple of thrift store stools for the counter as there were none. The main couch no one would sit on as it was so bad. There was no patio furniture on the balcony. They had a plastic cafeteria type table with 4 folding plastic chairs. We had several (4) plumbing issues which all had to be fixed while we were there. The owner did react quickly to the plumbing issues but it was inconvenient for our vacation. They had plenty of dishes but several times I needed to use the cooking utensils and they would break. It got to be a laughing matter.
They do not have satellite or cable. Apple TV only. As a mature adult I like to know what is going on. The news channels on Apple TV are small snippets from previous days. They need to put real tv in the house. This is the first place I've rented, and I've rented many, that did not have this service.
Bottom line, unless the furnishings and carpets are addressed the price you are paying is for the view only. The owner is nice but he needs to invest a few thousand if he wants repeat renters. Too much money to be uncomfortable.
Mary and Nick are really nice people and were very understanding of the issues that we had. Unfortunately the plumbing issues were completely unforeseen but I did react as quickly as humanly possible. The issues included the washing machine breaking down and I bought a new washing machine and dryer to ensure that everything would be fine from then on.
We are fairly new to this and Mary made various constructive suggestions, some of these are mentioned. The sofa they hated is our favorite but I guess we are used to it and did not realize that it wouldn't be everyone's favorite.
We do not run this as a business, my wife and I both work away most of the time and this is a way of us keeping our family home. We re-invest everything we receive into the house and things like the carpets and the furniture will be addressed soon.
I will keep Mary informed as we change things as we would love to have them come back, they were great guests.
Spacious, well-equipped property with a beautiful view.
Staying in this large, well-equipped home served our purposes very well. It was in a quiet residential neighborhood, only a few minutes' drive from anything we could need in Fountain Hills. The host was very helpful and easy do deal with. We didn't have many questions, but those we did have received prompt attention. A spectacular view is accessible from the master bedroom and the main rooms of the house. Would gladly return to this property.
it definitely is worth coming back to again!
The openness feel of the home was refreshing and the views outside were awesome and relaxing. The neighborhood was close to many amenities.
