Guestbook comments from the owner

Laura,

We had a very nice time. We could not have asked for a better setting for our family vacation. The weather was pretty good. We had two very nice campfires after we put our grandson down at eight.

After we talked as a family I think there is a good chance we will be back next year. My daughter in-law is 7 months pregnant and we will see if they want to take on a weekend with 2 little ones around.

I would recommend the place to anyone.

The early birds (Me, my son, daughter-in-law, and grandson) went to Pentwater for breakfast one morning.

Sunday night we all went and played mini-golf and had ice cream in Pentwater.

We did take our fishing boat with us and did a little fishing and went for a few rides around the lake.

All in all I would rate it an "A"

Wonderful place for a family vacation! Very kid friendly!

  • 5 of 5

This is a really great place to stay! My husband and I booked this to enjoy with our grown children and grandchildren. It is very child friendly. We had 7 adults and 7 children, ranging in age from 1 - 10. We went prepared to baby proof, but that really wasn't necessary. Somehow they've managed to make it beautiful, yet still kid friendly. We had a 17 month old and a 14 month old with us. One of our favorite features was the magnetic screens on the sliding glass doors, combined with baby gates all around the deck. Our toddlers loved that they could walk through the magnetic screen and go "outside" by themselves. We loved that we knew they couldn't go further than the deck and were right in sight. There is a baby gate to block off the upstairs, and a full-sized highchair in one of the bedroom closets. There is a door to the downstairs, so no gate is needed there. There is also a door on the master suite at the top of the stairs. We did bring our own pack n plays.

There were lots of white towels and washcloths for the bathrooms. We did take our own beach towels, and I would recommend that. There was plenty of bedding and pillows for all the beds, and extra for the couches if needed.

The kitchen was very well-equipped. There was even a pancake griddle, a medium-sized crockpot, and a drawer full of childrens' cups. There was a few basic seasonings: salt, pepper, seasoning salt, and garlic salt. There were plenty of pans and dishes, including a cookie sheet. As other reviewers have mentioned, you don't need to pack a lot!

Another of our favorite features was the private beach, equipped with plenty of toys! We really enjoyed the two kayaks, rowboats, and paddle boat. We also rented the pontoon boat, and that was awesome. Our grandchildren spent hours digging and playing in the sand. They also enjoyed the play-set positioned near the beach, and we loved that the fire pit was also near the beach. One more example of how kid friendly this was: there was a sign to put out by the road, to warn drivers to go slow and watch for children. There was very little traffic, but it was still nice to have. We also loved the large yard around the cottage, which we used to play some outdoor games we had brought.

We loved how this is a quiet setting near farmland, as opposed to being around a lot of tourists.

Laura Radle was awesome, always getting back to me quickly when I had questions before we went, and once while there!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Jennifer! I am glad you had a wonderful stay. My husband and I have small children too and know how difficult it can be traveling with them so we try to make it as easy as possible for families to stay with us!

Fall Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time. Six adults watching Saturday college football and in the evening playing cards. The weather was horrible, but inside it was nice and cozy with a fire in the fireplace. This is a lovely home and just the right size for our group.

TLC Needed

  • 2 of 5

This property needs a good cleaning and lots of TLC. The sheets were left for us to put on the beds. Not that big of an issue however, the proper sheets were not left for a main floor bedroom. I contacted the owner and she sent the housekeeper out to take care of the situation, however, even after she made the trip out we did not have the correct sheets. I went to town and purchased queen size sheets so we could use the room. The housekeeper should know what size sheets each bed in the house should have. I would also suggest getting rid of sheets that have very visible staining even if they had been washed, that's not something I want to sleep on. We had to do an initial clean when we arrived, empty the dishwasher, put the sheets on the beds, fold the laundry left in the dryer, and pull the trash can in from out by the road. Also things needed to be freshened up as in dusting and wiping down all surfaces, including the sliders and floor. I would have taken care of the floor and sliders as well however all the cleaning tools except for the basics are locked up. So I settled for sweeping and wiping down the counters and tables. It was kind of like being at home with the same chores. Not what I want to do on a weekend away. I believe the above things should have been done by the housekeeper for the cost of the rental this should NOT be something we should have had to deal with.

There was a bee issue as well that an exterminator was called in for. I was also stung during the coarse of the weekend. The owner was quick to respond to my emails and got right on that situation, however, the bees continued to be an issue for our stay.

All that being said we enjoyed our weekend getting together with friends, which is always priceless. This place had plenty of room for that and the downstairs family room is a great place to gather and play indoor games. The ping pong table is a nice feature. This property has the potential to be a wonderful place to share with family and friends it just needs some TLC or a new cleaning service.

Owner's Response: Becky, I apologize that the cottage was not in the order it should have been. As soon as you notified me, I made sure to attempt to have it rectified right away. I am also working with the cleaning company to make sure it does not happen in the future. I appreciate you letting us know so we can make sure it is corrected. Laura

Very nice cottage on wonderfully quiet lake

  • 5 of 5

We only got to stay two nights at the cottage and it was very hard to leave such a pleasant place. The cottage itself has a nice design with bedrooms on 3 floors and two full baths. While the bed situation may support 14, you would have a hard time fitting food for 14 in the kitchen since there is no storage for things you bring other than the counter tops themselves and the fridge. The dishwasher held the dishes from 7 folks pretty well. The home has some minor things not maintained (leaky kitchen faucet, torn screens, dishwasher interior covered with hard water stains) but that may be because we were at the end of the season and it didn't stop us from having fun. The beds were plentiful and comfortable. The TVs are small, but you should be outside unless it is raining!

Outside the beach is great, with lots of chairs for the beach and firepit. The boat selection was great too. We rented the pontoon and enjoyed that as well as the rowboats and kayaks. The beach sand is nice and the lake bottom is not rocky or slimy. There are weeds in the lake, but that's pretty standard in a small warm lake.

The house was wonderful. The lake was perfect size and we enjoyed boating, kayaking, swimming, and the beach. There was plenty of space for everyone and lots to keep busy. I would stay here again if in the area!
