The flat is centrally located in London which made getting around to the major sights easy. It does seem to be in a lower income / subsidized house development. The picture shows multiple pillows for the bed but there was only one thin pillow each. The shower wouldn't close off all the way at the tap to divert water to the shower head. Maybe 30% of the total water volume went to the head making showering difficult. The flat was very warm and difficult to cool even with all the windows open. The daytime high temp while we were there was only 62 degrees Fahrenheit. The couch is very small and not very comfortable. It is a spacious flat with a lot of room.
Great Location, Cute Place, Poorly Managed
My girlfriend and I were super excited to be avoiding the hotels and tourist areas to stay in our own flat in a quiet area of London. The flat is very cute and has everything you need to enjoy your stay. That being said, there were a few things that really bothered me. First off, we got there and there was no internet. The person who checked us in said he would have the ladies in the office top it up. The main reason this was a pain is because we needed the WiFi in order to find our way around at first until we got a pre-paid SIM for our phones. Hours went by then another day without WiFi, frustrated, I then messaged Hostmaker and they gave me a shared log-in to Bt but did not give clear instructions as to which account to log-in as. (options are business, pre-pay, monthly, etc). I spent a few hours trying to figure this out and decided it wasn't worth any more vacation time. The ad said Internet was included but we already had our pre-paid data on our phones at this point.
The other major issue was with the maintenance of the flat. The flat was very clean and neat, however, it appears as though a maintenance person hasn't been in there in years. The shower head was literally hanging from the wall and the hose for it was kinked so bad that you had to hold it in just the right position in order to get decent water pressure to shower. This was extremely annoying and not how I want to spend a vacation. While minor, both the toilet paper holder and the soap try by the sink were also falling off the wall. If this were my flat, I would be embarrassed to make a guest deal with these things.
This leads me to the last issue with the place (and perhaps worst of all). The Hostmaker contact responded quickly to my e-mail with the issues, however, not one issue was resolved in a timely manner (or at all for that matter). Throwing a customer login information to some random WiFi account isn't acceptable and neither is sending a repair man out "in a day or two". Again, if this were my place, these issues would be fixed immediately but with a group like Hostmaker, perhaps they are stretched too thin.
In closing, this is a nice flat and hopefully by the time this review is posted, all these issues will be fixed for the next group of renters. That being said, we will be avoiding any properties managed by Hostmaker in the future.
Thanks for your constructive review and we are for sure taking these issues seriously and most of them have been fixed by now. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused as our goal is that guests feel comfortable and happy during their stay. I hope that despite the internet issues you had a great stay!
