The house is within walking distance to multiple restaurants, coffee shops (including Starbucks), and a movie theater with easy access to the freeways and the San Diego International Airport. The house was recently painted inside and out and has all the modern conveniences (including wifi, deluxe DirecTV package, and a new central forced-air HVAC) while maintaining its charming character with original woodwork and built-ins along with original tilework on the living room fireplace. The master bedroom sleeps two comfortably in its Queen size bed and there is an en-suite half bath. The second bedroom also sleeps two comfortably in its Queen size bed. The full bathroom is located between the two bedrooms and has a deep garden-style shower/tub combo ideal for either a quick shower or a long, well-earned soak. Perfect Getaway in Great Location!
This is a beautiful home with so much character and history. The interior is lovely and comfortable and offers all the amenities of home, including the kitchen. The beautiful backyard and patio are serene and especially magical at night with fireplace! Hot tub is a plus! The quaint Kensington neighborhood offers great restaurants within walking distance. We had such a wonderful experience and look forward to staying again soon!
Beautiful Warm Feeling Home
We decided to visit my daughter at San Diego State. She had complaining that she really misses home cooked meals. So we decided to rent this home so we could spend a lot of time together. This home is more beautiful then the pictures. It was so nice to show up later in the evening and have the home all lit up and ready for us. The house is so warm feeling with great colors and nice furnishings. It really felt like a true home to us. The outside is amazing - it feels like you are in a spa. It was so relaxing we had a hard time getting my mom to leave. This is a perfect place to stay. It is close to everything - cute little town within walking distance. We will definitely be staying here again. Thank you for having us.
Great location, beautiful home, great backyard
What a great get away! Great neighborhood. Owner very friendly and helpful. Amazing backyard. Comfortable beds, good shower.
House feels like home
The Kensington house is very clean and nicely decorated. The kitchen is fully stock of dishes, plates and pots to use for cooking. The location is very ideal to do site seeing around San Diego. I would come back and rent this house again whenever I visit San Diego.
Great place to stay in a great neighborhood
I would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for a place in San Diego. It has great character and is very comfortable, and is located in a nice neighborhood. It's close to downtown and anywhere else you may want to go in San Diego.
Nice but some issues.
After staying at about 10-12 VRBO ("advertising" platform only) places, we’ve come to some conclusions. Due to the inevitable interactions a guest has with the host, a rapport/relationship results (unlike a hotel), which leads to reviews skewing more positive. It’s difficult to be wholly objective when 1)a guest knows that a less than stellar review may mean the host may lose revenue and/or 2) the host will respond on a personal level & retaliate with a poor rating of the guest. We also notice we have always made allowances that would never pass muster if we had been staying at a hotel. Examples of this are: inadequate environment (too hot/cold, dampness, too noisy, soft/lumpy mattress, etc), unfortunate glitches (difficulty accessing upon arrival, appliance failure), strangers entering without notice,-security issues, “tetchy” hosts who demand the perfect level of communication-not too much & not too little, in the “right” format (texts vs email) and/or they post signs everywhere as to how to clean, even though they charge a cleaning fee, and lastly key features impacting quality of accommodation (at this property-A/C not functioning, loud construction next door). When I check into Hotel, if any of the above categories is lacking the remedies are numerous: 1) Maintenance can fix 2) Move me to another room or 3) lastly, I can leave without penalty or I can protest charge on credit card. AND…I don’t get notes/reviews on cleaning the hotel room, criticism as to “followed” instructions/rules or on how much/little I communicated with the staff. This will be our penultimate stay. We finally reached a tipping point in the trade-offs of staying in a kitted-out house so we can feel more at home versus the surprises/eccentricities of staying in private houses.
This house IS a lovely SoCal bungalow. It has a very well stocked kitchen and comfortable beds. Pillows are too soft and the metal bed frame allows the pillows to fall back through. The A/C did fail for 1/2 of our stay and the owners did credit us back 1 night. There was also loud jack-hammering at the next door house for 1/2 our stay-not predictable but again if in a hotel we would have moved. The bathrooms are updated but the step into the tub is so high we nearly tripped/fell getting into/out of the tub-perhaps built for a person with very long legs! The neighborhood is very nice and convenient to grocery stores and the freeway.
Thank you for your review. I strive to provide guests with the best experience possible. Apologies for my neighbor redoing their front porch. However, work was performed during normal working hours to remove concrete. I have no control over my neighbors.
As far as the HVAC, the unit is brand new. I worked on the issue remotely from London and worked with my local property manager. However, San Diego had a heat wave and I was able to get a technician to the house within 24 hours. I addressed your concern for your "inconvenience" since it was 80F in the house by refunding you one night stay. However,, leaving the exterior house doors open with the air conditioning running makes the unit freeze which is what you experienced.
Finally, apologies if you found the bedding unacceptable. However, I guess I cannot please everyone as no one in the past, including myself, has had an issue with it.
