The house is great but the homeowner is horrible. - keep away
We stayed at Villa Francesa 14 days, A 4 bedroom home perfect for us: 2 couples with 2 kids each. The amenity of electricity wasn't included in the 7750 Euro rent and measured during our stay, which's odd but agreed upon ahead. We added cleaning services for extra 10 Eu per hour. Upon arrival, Emily the homeowner took 500 Eu cash deposit.
Two days later the bath's shower tube broke, it was very old and full of scale (the whole house is very old, if showering, don't use any other faucet). We texted her to fix it, she replied "It broke on your stay, the fix is on you. I can call a plumber but you pay". This was odd - a clear matter of maintenance. But it was a tube and we just started our vacation and didn't want to argue. We bought and replaced it ourselves. We did start getting Emily's hospitality views differ from ours. Many examples to this issue, like when asking if there's anything to shade the pool (it is totally exposed to sun and it was 38 degrees Celsius) her answer was "sit on the grass". The end was the worst. We had to leave by 8:00 am to be on time for our flight. She insisted on a 1 hour check out/inspection. We asked her to come a day before for the hour-long inspection (?) knowing we'd be stressed that morning, then check out should be max 10 minutes in the morning (returning keys, paying electricity). Obviously, she did as she liked, arrived 7:00 AM with the cleaner setting her straight to work (inconvenient to us finishing packing, the kids and her inspection all together). When asking for the 500 Eu deposit back she laughed saying we owe her 300 Eu cleaning fees for the last day (the cleaner took 10 Euro per hour so it was obvious the 300 wasn't going to her), 100 Eu for electricity, and another 100 for stains on her 40-year-old marble surface in the kitchen(???). This was enough, I felt robbed, we had to leave for the airport, the kids were hungry and stressed so as we started to argue we knew the money will never return and to cut our loses and go or we'll be late for our flight. Even as we arrived to the terminal (traumatized, no coffee yet and with a migraine) she sent a message the fridge's wood cover door broke and she'll send us a bill for it (It was perfect when we left at check out, standing in the kitchen!!!).
Being with kids we looked after the house as our own. More. They drew only after spreading sheets of paper under, sat on protection covered sofas, ate only at the dining table. The house was returned as given.
