After spending most of August and September at 3 Bay Point in Georgetown, we are relaxed, refreshed and now long for all that we had on such a small and secluded island in Maine. First, the house itself, which was completely renovated about 10 years ago, is both true to the original architecture while also offering modern bathrooms and a very workable kitchen that is both rustic in feel and able to stand up to all of our cooking. It is immediately evident that décor is the result of an artist’s eye. The entire four bedroom, three full bath house is filled with art and artifacts so that you are regularly resting your eyes on an enchanting new detail previously overlooked. Not an easy thing considering we were there for nearly two months! The grounds are lovely, with a variety of spots to hang out, including a stone backyard fire pit!
Deborah, the property owner was a joy to have nearby in the attached renovated barn. Deb is charming, charismatic, and is extremely responsive to any and all questions or requests. Toaster broken? No problem! A new toaster the next day. Thank you for everything Deb. We miss you!
The house is within a five minute drive to Reid State Park. We went to Reid nearly every afternoon to walk around the rocks and enjoy the many views of the water and islands. There are few commercial establishments on the island, but you can exist there without going to (the mainland if you wish. Or you can go to charming, nearby, Bath, Maine for whatever you may need. Georgetown is an excellent starting place for easy day trips to places like Wiscasset, Portland, Freeport and Boothbay Harbor.
Deborah will fill you in on everything you need to know and where to go for what.
All in all, this large, charming property is a perfect home away from home.
We fell in love with this historic guest house, antique furniture, quirky art and old fashion touches added to the old house. Three members of our party had "special" birthdays this year and with this in mind we chose to stay at this property, perfect home with oodles of Charm! What a good choice this was! The house was very clean and spacious with all furnishings and every amenity you could wish for. Apart from visiting many of the lovely places in Georgetown, Popham Beach, Reid Beach, Bath and Boothbay Harbor etc, the men enjoyed playing golf on many of the courses in the area and us girls enjoyed a spot of shopping in Freeport - we had come prepared with roomy cases! But wherever our daily travels took us we were always happy to return to the comfort of our holiday home. We all agreed this will certainly rate as one of our most enjoyable holidays and we would love to return in the not too distant future to pick up where we left off.
I stayed here with my family during the week leading-up to my wedding at the nearby Grey Havens Inn. The Guest House was the perfect home base for us! The house is unique and beautifully designed. The tour that Deborah gave us upon our arrival was so interesting and thorough - I loved hearing all of the details about the design & restoration process of the home. The house is so big! At one point in the week, we had 7 people staying comfortably - with plenty of room! The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to make lots of meals at home - but being just a 2-minute walk from the General Store was really convenient as well (they've got great freshly-baked cinnamon buns & coffee!). We love how tranquil and quiet the area is. Staying at the guesthouse was absolutely relaxing! When we needed to run errands (foodshopping, etc) or wanted to go out and watch some of the games on tv, the short 20-minute drive to the town of Bath was just perfect. Getting out and about to other towns like Portland, Freeport, Wiscasset & Boothbay were just a quick drive way - we really felt like Georgetown was such a central location for seeing so many beautiful parts of Maine's Midcoast Region. Nearby Reid State Park is gorgeous - it was so nice that Deb has passes for guests. When our week-long stay was over, it was really hard to say good-bye to this beautiful guest house. We hope to return for another stay soon! Thank you so much, Deb!
We had an amazing stay here. The area is magnificent and the house was warm and comfortable and filled with wonderful books and crafts made by artisans from all over the world. Don't know if it was the cool nights or the comfortable beds but we all slept like logs. Deborah was a very gracious host and we would highly recommend staying here. We'll definitely be back.
We (2 couples) had a great time exploring the area. Beaches, kayaking, great food (Five Islands clams!), museums (Bath Maritime and 2 wonderful museums in Brunswick at Bowdoin College). Very comfortable and spacious home, artistic and creative design---filled with antigues, art and folk art. The owner has traveled extensively and the house reflects this. We relaxed in the evenings with wine, music (loved the fire pit) and lively conversations. Recommend highly---thanks so much Deb!
We were 5 adults and 5 children and the spacious common areas were very conducive to our needs. The décor is a lovely combination of Maine, Southwest and Mexico/Guatemala. We had everything we needed at our fingertips in this comfortable home. The house is centrally located with short drives to Bath, Reid State Park and Five Islands Lobsters. It is on a fairly busy corner, which is the only drawback. Otherwise a delight of a rental. We had a marvelous time and the grandkids enjoyed all the nooks and crannies of the house. Be sure to check out Georgetown Pottery right up the street. If you bring bikes, there are several places to explore. Check out Loop Road at the end of Indian Point.
