Gorgeous views and great location too!

  • 4 of 5

This house is exactly as pictured— light, airy, architecturally dramatic and with gorgeous views of both pastureland and ocean. it is the perfect place for a family getaway in beautiful Bodega Bay. We were there with adult children and grandchildren and the stay couldn’t have been easier and more fun. The house is set up perfectly for a family— lots of room for togetherness in the kitchen, living room, and dining areas— but much-needed privacy in the bedrooms. The children were able to nap quietly while we adults spent time in the upstairs living room. The dining room seated all of us comfortably and served as a great gathering spot not only for eating, but for laptops, doing puzzles, and playing board games too. The kitchen was extremely modern and well-equipped with absolute gorgeous views out the window by the sink. The beds were also super comfortable and there were plenty of linens and towels. The location of the house couldn’t have been better. My husband was 2 minutes from the Bodega Links golf course, and Doran beach was less than 5 minutes driving time away. Directly across from the house was access to a small private beach, but due to the steps and relatively steep climb down, we weren’t able to take the small children there. I would recommend this, however, as a wonderful place for older children and adults. it is obvious the owners of the Compass House are hospitable people who want others to enjoy their home. The house had so many “loving” touches like sea shells, books, board games, and pretty dishes and mugs. The Compass House is located in a lovely neighborhood with tasteful homes and incredible views. It is a quiet neighborhood where you feel very much at home. Overall, I’d give our stay an “A.” Thank you to the owners and management company for helping make our family vacation so special.

We had a great stay. The house is close to the beach, town, and golf. There was plenty of room for our group of ten! I highly recommend this property.

Wonderful family weekend w/ perfect beach access

  • 5 of 5

Our family with kids and grandkids spent the weekend at the Compass House. The house with its large living room, large kitchen, and comfortable bedrooms, was the perfect home for us. The short hike to the beach and the beach itself were a wonderful addition to peaceful coastal atmosphere in the home.

One thing to improve: please provide coffee next time :))

Great space for 8 people.

Overall the house was great. It needs a couple items fixed. 2 of the dining room chairs are wobbly. One of the twin beds needs to be replaced as it is leaning.

Beautiful, well-appointed home but experience was tainted by booking hiccups

  • 3 of 5

Tl; dr: Beautiful house in a great location, but a booking mistake by management company made for a stressful experience.

Pros: Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for a trip to visit family in Sebastopol. We had 3 couples and two single people and all fit very comfortably. Home is right on the coast with great views, and a path nearby to take to the ocean. It was equipped with everything we needed, from throw blankets for chilly weather to a fully equipped kitchen. We were able to have my 80-year-old grandmother over for a family dinner and the dining area easily accommodated 10 for a sit-down dinner.

The management company, Bodega Bay Best Vacation Rentals (BBBVR) quickly responded to my request to book, and you could tell many small steps had been taken to ensure that guests had everything they needed while at the house. Instructions for turning on lights etc. were clear, and they did not have extensive or unusual requirements for preparing the house on check-out, which I appreciated.

Cons: We had some issues with BBBVR when booking the home. I requested to book in February for a July trip, and received a prompt reply from BBBVR with a docusign agreement and deposit information. I executed that agreement, but in March our dates needed to move up by two days, so I contacted BBBVR to see if that would be possible. They said that would be fine and we executed a new agreement with the new dates.

A week before our check-in date, I received an e-mail from BBBVR stating that they had double-booked the house for the first night of our stay and we wouldn't be able to check in until the next day. I tried to get in touch with the owner, and she eventually texted me that a staff member would call me to book an alternate house. No one called, so I called them later in the day and it turned out that there were no other properties that would work for our party as they didn't have any other 4-bedroom homes available.

They eventually refunded the night they double-booked, and we shortened our stay. No apology was made beyond a perfunctory "sorry for the inconvenience" in the initial e-mail. We scrambled to figure out alternate housing for our group, a stressful process as the stay was part of a multi-stop trip, with people flying in from various points on the day we were supposed to check-in, and we had only a few days to make alternate arrangements.

Great spot, but can't recommend for out-of-state travelers due to unreliable booking.
