I have been coming to GRB my entire life thanks to my mother’s family. My grandparents had a house on Wildwood Ave and each family would get a week in the summer. I have lived in NYC for 15 years, working in the fashion industry but would love to move to Maine one day. My father absolutely loved GRB and is the reason I bought this house in 2015. He had been battling brain cancer for almost 13 years and right before his 5th surgery he caught wind that I had been saving my money in the event he would need experimental treatment in another country. He immediately declared the money was going to buy a house at GRB and even asked my sister to call the realtor right there in the hospital as he was being taken away by the nurses. I agreed and assumed he would forget about that entire conversation after he came out of surgery.

Why Owner chose Goose Rocks Beach
This is where the story begins! The whole family spent Memorial Day in GRB while I was stuck in NYC. That Sunday my Dad called me all excited that he found a house that I had to buy. He became more excited & said “NO Liz you have to buy it & you have to buy it today! Don’t listen to your mother or sister, they don’t know anything!” Of course I called them both and asked what was going on and they said “don’t listen to him, he is crazy” (due to the steroids after surgery). I asked my sister to go over and take pics to send me. In the meantime my dad recruited my brother in law to be his negotiator and they were off to track down the realtor. By 5:30pm they had her in the office drafting up forms to sign. Within the hour I had officially made an offer on a house that I had never been in! This house became my Dad’s newest project and he couldn’t have been happier to once again have purpose (since he could no longer run his deli). My mom was the interior decorator & started to see the real potential that my Dad had seen right from the start. At times my dad was so obsessed he couldn’t sleep at night thinking of the slanted floors, the stone step at the front door, the beam above the stairs that someone would hit their head on, the cabinets that wouldn’t stay shut, & the list goes on. My family really helped with this house so that it would be ready for the summer’s rental season. We did not know at the time but this was my Dad’s last project - I know he would have been so proud that we finished in time. He was so good with fixing/building that watching us was torture for him. He would remind us how “useless” we all were while painfully watching us paint or attempting simple tasks like changing the light switches. The house was almost done before he went into the hospital for the last time. This house was truly a labor of love! I really wish he could have enjoyed the house for one last summer but now it is ready for so many other families to enjoy.
