About the property

Very cute small 3 bedroom house located on 15 acres secluded from neighbors.

If you are looking for privacy and seclusion, in conjunction with a great view, this home is for you. Very comfortable, cozy, and isolated from neighbors. The driveway is gated, has several switchbacks, and is almost 1/4 mile long. The kitchen is fully equipped, and has a gas stove. The master bedroom is upstairs, has a queen-sized bed, and a master bath featuring a rural, tiled shower. The first floor bedrooms are smaller, with double beds, and there is a bathroom on the first floor with a bathtub/shower unit. The house offers great views from the front porch and windows, and is situated on 15 acres with great hiking on and adjacent to the property. Unusual for the area is great cell phone reception because of the elevation and proximity to towers. The driveway is steep in portions, and four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicles would be best for access. Small cars handle the driveway adequately, but long wheelbase 2 wheel drive trucks or cars that do not have posi-traction or limited slip will not make it up the driveway.

Internet access is provided by Frontier DSL. Access is unlimited, and is very good. The television is a modern flat screen (40") wall mounted smart TV that is connected to an air antenna at the peak of the roof. Reception is very good, and about 20 stations are usually available. Streaming can be done through the DSL connection.

The views from this house really have to be seen to be appreciated; but some idea can be gleamed from the pictures. Sunrises are particularly beautiful and colorful. The views are long range and short range, and the valley below is very scenic as well. No neighboring houses can be seen from the house. The house cannot be seen from the driveway entrance at the road. Very quiet and peaceful, and you will not see any neighbors, and they cannot see you!

Jack and Kathi Lurie are both from Ohio; both graduating from The Ohio State University. We have lived in Fort Myers, Florida since 1985; and co-owned a hardware store in Ft. Myers for over 30 years. We are currently retired, and spend our summers and falls in a house two driveways down from Clayson Mountainview. We enjoy gardening and hiking, and other outdoor activities. We purchased our residence in the mountains in 2015; and decided to rent Clayson Mountainview, instead of selling it. We hope that you enjoy it as much as we have for the last 8 years. It is an ideal spot to relax and reflect; and enjoy that goodness that is life!

Why Jack M Lurie chose Cullowhee

When we were preparing for retirement, we looked for areas to buy a second home. We made several trips to the Georgia/Tennessee/ North Carolina mountain area because of the climate, elevation, and beautiful views. After looking at over 100 properties, we fell in love with Clayson Mountainview, because of the fantastic views, the large size of the lot (15 acres), and the seclusion from neighbors and the road. Summers are always cooler because of the elevation; even the hottest days of summer are pleasant. It is a very quiet home because of the great distance from any neighbors or the road.

What makes this house unique

This house just makes you feel at home. It is cozy and friendly, and features great views from the front porch, kitchen, living room, and master bedroom and bath. The water is the best water that we have ever tasted, coming from a deep well over 700 feet in the ground (no need for bottled water; drink right out of the tap). The views include long range , mid-range, and short mountain views; as well as a beautiful view of the valley. The home is situated on 15 acres, providing hiking on site, in the immediate area (Catspaw and Walnut Gap neighborhoods), or within short driving distance are many waterfalls and hiking trails.

  • The upstairs master bedroom is spacious, private, and full of natural light. It adjoins the master bath, and a walk in closet. The mountain views from the master bedroom are breathtaking; and the sunrises are incredible.

Serene location with outstanding mountain views

This beautiful location offers sunshine, shaded woods, comfortable spaces indoors and out, and lots of opportunity for those who enjoy walks in the woods or fishing local streams in the vicinity. I will be coming back, and highly recommend this rental to my friends!

Home is located in between Franklin and Cashiers. Close to both Lake Glenville in Glenville and Highlands, NC.

Lake Glenville has 26 miles of shoreline and is the highest elevation lake east of the Mississippi. It is only a short twenty-minute drive from Western Carolina University, and the town of Sylva. Boats can be rented and fun can be had! Lots of good hikes and waterfalls in this beautiful Western North Carolina area!
