Casa Chiquita 2 is the back unit of two new luxurious apartments 7 minutes from the Jardin in Centro SMA. The unit is very comfortable with everything you could need for your stay in SMA. You have a 43 inch television, wifi, a water purification system and a washer and dryer. There is a ceiling fan in the bedroom and a room fan for the living room. The space is very beautiful and comfortable too.

You will enter the foyer through the front door to a entry hall and your separate entrance is in the back. This is a very secure unit and location.

I am happy to assist my guest in any way I can. I or another host will be available at all times to answer any questions regarding the apartment.

Cute Casita But Stuffy and Hot

  • 3 of 5

The casita itself is clean and efficient with nice finishes. The housekeeper Maria did a great job of keeping the casita clean and changing the linens once a week. The kitchen was adequately stocked with lovely Telavera dishes, utensils and pots and pans. The location was terrific for us to get to our Spanish class which was only a couple of blocks away and the Angela Peralta Theatre around three blocks away.

Unfortunately, when we looked at the listing photos of the casita before booking there was no way to know the windows shown for this unit did not open to the outside. Instead, they opened into an interior hallway with inadequate outside ventilation.

Although Billie did her best to make sure we were comfortable, the lack of proper ventilation and outside fresh air kept the house oppressively hot day and night. All of the windows for the casita remained open during our entire stay, but it wasn't enough to vent out the warm air inside. Billie brought in an additional fan, but it didn't do enough to cool the casita down and I don't believe there was much more she could have done during our stay to improve the situation. At night, it would be 83˚ F on our digital clock/thermometer in the third floor bedroom - 10 to 12 degrees warmer than outside and impossible to get a good nights sleep. We ran the overhead fan constantly and used a second portable fan that had to be turned off in order to sleep because it was so loud. In the morning the temperature in the bedroom usually read 80˚when the weather app said it was 66˚ outside.

The little half bath on the first level was unbearably stuffy with a noxious odor that only improved with a shot of Lysol spray and leaving the door open. We often opted to run up to the third floor rather than try to hold our breath in the bathroom under the stairs.

Hopefully these problems can be resolved because it's an efficient and cute place, and Billie is an accommodating hostess.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very detailed response. After living in San Miguel de Allende there are certain discomforts that we sometimes suffer. i.e electrical outages, water outages for days. etc The fumes from the downstairs toilet are due to lack of use. Had you used it more and flushed it more often the fumes should recede. However with the increase in tourist the central plumbing sometimes backs up with these fumes. This is the worst in Centro SMA. I have not had this complaint from any other guest. But I do believe it happened. There is nothing that can be done about this. I have it in my own home on the ground floor. It was extremely hot when these guest were here. Again I have had wonderful reviews in the past. You can see many more reviews on Airbnb. VRBO does not encourage people and remind them to review like the other sights. The hot months here are most often May and the summer months are hot and humid. I want to make it clear that the windows all open to an outside area. It is not a hallway as stated. It is a breezeway with no view. I think the guest had a problem with the noise of fans which is a problem if you are a light sleeper.

Excellent long-term stay

  • 4 of 5

My friend and I were attending a Spanish Language school in San Miguel, and the Casa Chiquita apartment worked out extremely well for us. We were about a 5 min. walk from our school and about 12-15 min. from the center of town. Great location. We walked most of the time, but buses were nearby. We stayed for 25 days and really hated to leave. It's a really great long-term accommodation.

The kitchen was a dream, and the entire casita was brilliantly designed for the space and very tastefully decorated by the owner. The owner was very accommodating and friendly. We had problems getting on Wi-Fi often and it would only work downstairs in the kitchen area. A few days before we left, the owner had another internet connection installed, which worked really well. There are a lot of stairs--13 up to the living quarters and another 13 up to the bedroom and main bathroom. It was good exercise for us, but some folks might have a problem with the stairs.

The casita was very clean, and we had maid service once a week. I would definitely stay there again.
