Charming Place to Stay!
What a wonderful place and such amazing hosts with Terri and Doug, who welcomed us personally and provided a great selection of cold drinks to enjoy! We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay. Evenings by the fire and waking up to the sounds of the forest! We came home relaxed and refreshed. This is the perfect location to explore -20 minutes to Santa Cruz and 20 minutes to San Jose. Monterey is just a 45 minute trip down as well. We will be back again!
Very nice Vintage Airstream in the Redwoods.
The Redwood retreat was a beautiful, relaxing space among the Redwoods. We loved it’s charm and appreciated the wonderful hospitality of the owners, Doug and Terri.
It is about 20 mins to the Santa Cruz beach and boardwalk in one direction and 20 mins to the cute town of Los Gatos in the other. Although you could faintly hear the traffic from 17 as some have mentioned, it was not at all intrusive.
The beautiful property full of Redwoods make it a special place.
The Airstream was comfortable, air conditioning if needed and the owners provided all the amenities plus some nice touches such as beer, soda and water in the fridge. And some mint chocolate that we all enjoyed 😊
We would definitely return if we’re back in the area.
Everything I expected and more
I was looking for a location that would give me convenient access to both the redwood forests of the Santa Cruz mountains (local state parks) and the ocean, as well as the Silicon Valley area. This "Redwood Retreat" really fit the bill perfectly. While traffic on Rte 17 can get heavy at times, I never found it to be a problem. That is to say, I never found myself stuck in a traffic jam for any significant period of time.
While at the retreat, I did notice some light background noise from the traffic on Rte. 17 however much of that is dampened by the many trees on the property. I did not find the noise to be bothersome in any way. The property itself is private and there are a few trails available for some light hiking. I found it to be very serene up there.
As for the accommodations, since I have a fondness for travel trailers and Airstreams in particular, this setup was ideal for me. Sure it's a little tight in there, small bathroom, etc. however that is what classic travel trailers are all about, efficient use of space. This one is very well maintained and does not show it's age much. I found it to be very clean inside and well stocked with anything I might need during my stay.
My hosts, Doug and Terri, were very gracious. They checked in a couple of times to make sure my stay was going well and that I had everything I needed. I had a couple of minor issues after I arrived that were corrected right away (like within 15 minutes).
Overall, my stay here was extremely satisfying. I'm so glad I didn't spend $200+ per night to stay in a 3-star hotel in the Bay Area with little or no charm when I could stay here. Would I stay here again? Definitely yes!
Unique Little Getaway
We needed a quick getaway weekend from Silicon Valley and took the short drive down hwy 17. The Airstream and surrounding area were in great condition and allowed us to just decompress and catch up. There were a couple of trails on the property that provided a chance to experience the redwood setting. You feel secluded, but Scotts Valley is just a short drive away for food, coffee, etc. Great place that we will likely visit again!
Note that you can hear the faint sounds from hwy 17. Also, we went in January. While it was (thankfully) dry, it was very cold. If you go during the winter, bring heavy coats/blankets and know that the trailer will take a few hours to warm up.
Fabulous hosts...lovely little private paradise in the redwoods! Extremely clean and very well maintained. Had a fantastic stay and will definitely be back! Thank you Doug & Terri
A Perfect Retreat!
Terri and Doug were amazing hosts; we enjoyed chatting with them and appreciated the bottle of Pinot and the bag of Peet's. Our trip was to tour UC Santa Cruz and San Francisco State with our HS Senior Daughter. She really enjoyed the surroundings and wandered the trails taking photos. A relaxing and different alternative to a hotel. The Airstream was very cool, I gave 4 stars only because we struggled with the hot water heater - probably user error. The place was immaculate, peaceful and comfortable.
We'd love to return.
