House high on a hill with spectacular ocean view surrounded by tropical gardens. Infinity pool overlooks the ocean on a grand deck. Wrap-around, open, covered deck with dining area and sitting area. Cooled by ocean breezes. Gourmet European kitchen. Short five-minute drive to the beach.
Many people planning a Nosara vacation want to be able to walk to the beach. But that comes with heat, noise, dust and bugs. Up here on the hill you are surrounded by lush greenery, the only noise you'll hear is the pounding surf and an occasional monkey and the ocean breezes keep you cool while they blow the bugs away...Oh,and did I mention the view

Very beautiful house with magnificent view.
We had a great stay. The house is large, well appointed and the setting is ideal. We highly recommend but I feel it only fair to warn anyone planning to stay of the following: The gravel covered access to the house under construction next door is off the driveway to this house, mere feet away from where you will be sleeping. Every morning of our three day stay we were awoken at about 5:35 by a steady procession of trucks and motorcycles as the constriction workers came to work. It lasted for about twenty minutes. We had surfers in the group who were on the beach by 7 am each day so this was not a big issue for them, they just got up earlier than planned.
The good news is that this house under construction is due to be completed by June 2017. We have also requested contractors to delay work when there are guests in our house until 630. Life in Costa Rica tends to start early since there is only 12 hours of daylight from 6 AM to 6 PM. People like to get up early to get the most out of the cool mornings before the heat of the day and afternoon. Our gardener usually arrives at 6:30 and the maid is here by seven. And as stated if people are here for surfing, they are usually at the beach by seven.
What a VIEW!
We have been back from Nosara for a couple of weeks now and all we can think about is when are we going back. We loved Casa Murray it really is the best view up in the Las Huacas area. We debated whether we wanted to be close to the beach or look at it. It was no mistake to take the view. Its just a short drive down to Guiones and to be able to relax by the pool and look at the view was AMAZING! It was me, my husband, 5 year old daughter and Mom. My Mom had her own space downstairs and was very comfortable. We were barely inside (even though its very comfortable). It really is the outdoor space that makes this place. Kitchen was awesome fully equipped. We made breakfast and lunch almost everyday and then went out for dinners. So many amazing spots to eat in Nosara. You really can't go wrong. Our favs were La Luna (on the beach awesome sunsets), Gilded Iguana, Kaya Sol, Beach Dog Cafe (now open for dinner), Burgers and Beers (connected is also sushi), Le Creperie, El Chivo (mexican), Seekrat Spot (ice cream) and Harmony Hotel for smoothies, juices and fantastic drinks and meals. I highly recommend Nosara for all the fun activities too. Agua Tibia has a great kids surf camp, we also used Surfing Nosara for lessons, Miss Sky for zip line and spent a lot of time at the Yoga Institute and Harmony Hotel for drop in yoga classes. Robert was very responsive when we made our last minute reservation and he has great staff that will take care of you while you're there. The maid comes a little too frequently for us but, how can I complain about someone cleaning up after us right? Thanks so much Robert loved your place.
Many thanks. You stated so eloquently what I try to tell people when they are deciding between our house and one by the beach.
My husband and I have made 4 trips to Costa Rica over the last 2 years, and have visited various locations on the Nicoya peninsula. Our last trip was to Nosara, and we actually rented a home right next door to Casa Murray. The home we had rented was very nice and had a good view; however, I recognized the name of the house and had actually spoken with Robert about the house before we came. At the time, it looked like the house would be occupied when were supposed to be there. I contacted Robert and asked if we could take a peek at the view he had told me about, to which he said of course. Breathless is the only word that come to mind when you see the view. We were so awestruck with the view that we contacted Robert again and ended up staying at Casa Murray for the remainder of our trip. The neighborhood where this rental is located is a very nice neighborhood. There is a guard at the base of the entrance road and it is very safe. All of the houses that you see are nice, high-end costa rican homes. Costa Rica is a different world, so temporary power outages, temporary internet outages, etc. are part of the charm. They do go out, but they always come back on. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be back again very soon! Thanks so much Robert!
A wonderful vacation home but not for everyone
We spent a lovely relaxing week in this villa with our 3 adult children. The magnificent view from the pool & terrace area is breath taking. The property is well equipped, well maintained and very spacious but has obviously been well used e.g the towels were quite old and it would have been useful had there been different ones for pool and house use. Some of the glass ware had also seen better days. There is excellent WIFI reception.
The house is situated on the hillside with magnificent views overlooking Playa Guiones far below and is cool and airy during the heat of the day. It is reached via a long driveway through the trees ; while we were there none of the neighbouring properties (the closest of which was about 100 metres away) were occupied adding to the sense of isolation. I found this together with the security measures (there is no alarm) rather unnerving. Although there were grills and bars on all of the external windows and doors many of the doors themselves were unlocked which seemed a little strange. We raised this with both the lovely maid and property manager who seemed unconcerned.
I would have been very unhappy at the property had my children been younger. The large master suite is on the same level as the kitchen and both internal and external living spaces while the other two bedrooms and bathrooms are accessed via a long outside staircase at the bottom of which is a metal door that has to be separately locked. I also don't think that the pool terrace would be particularly safe for very young children.
It was wonderful to wake in the morning to the sound of the troop of howler monkeys crossing the property and to watch the amazing variety of birds ( including vultures that came to drink in the pool !)After 10 days travelling throughout Costa Rica all we really wanted to do while in Nosara was to relax at either the house or the beach and the house was perfect for this. A car preferably a 4WD is essential as the house is a good 5 min drive from the village where there are a number of very good places to eat.
The owner was very pleasant and efficient to deal with. Once I had overcome my nervousness during the night time we had a fantastic stay in this lovely property.
We have just arrived back at the house and have addressed many of their concerns. There are now separate beach towels and all glassware has been replaced. Security for the entire development has been enhanced. In addition to a guard at the entrance to the development, we also have a roving guard on a motorcycle every night from 5 PM. to 5 AM.There is a telephone hot line number to call if anyone suspects any unusual activity and the guard will be there instantaneously. All the gates and doors lock and the house is virtually impenetrable. We have gone to great lengths to ensure the security of our guests. It is true that the downstairs bedrooms are separated from the main house. For that reason we do not rent to families with small children who would be nervous sleeping away from their parents. The proximity of the pool to the living area is also an issue for small children, Another reason we don't rent to those families.
Beautiful but Not for Everyone
This house is all about the awesome outdoor space with breathtaking views! Most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen, sitting by the pool surrounded by the sounds of the jungle (many monkey sightings!). Pluses and minuses:
+ Outdoor area, pool (we didn't use the grill but looked good)
+ Kitchen - fully equiped (though we didn't cook). Soap, toilet paper, basic essentials provided.
+ Large master, plenty of bathrooms, A/C when you need it, laundry
+/- Secure home (gates and bars a bit unsettling at first, but that is the nature of the area, with all houses. The keys were tricky. Felt safe after got used to it. There is also a guard at night at the bottom of the hill.)
+/- About 10 min to beach and town. We preferred being up in the hills, but the ride to town is bumpy so you don't want to do that more than a couple times a day.
- The house is NOT IDEAL FOR FAMILIES WITH KIDS. The master is on the main level. You have to go outside onto the veranda, downstairs, through a double gate/door (which you have to lock at night for security - to get out need a key) to reach the other 2 bedrooms. One is a queen BR so everyone could stay downstairs, but that BR was musty when we were there and not nearly as nice as the master (our 2 kids camped out in the master with us). This is main reason I give the house 3 stars, as I was not asked if we had kids and not clear in VRBO listing.
- Lots of bugs, especially ants, which got into our food. This is the nature of the jungle, but could have been ant traps provided. Bring zip lock bags
- Mouse problem when we were there. Owner said this is being taken care of. We put all food in the fridge due to the pests.
- No alarm system. Some houses in the area have an alarm.
If you haven't been to Nosara before, the area is off the beaten path (dirt roads, pristine beach). Need a 4WD, and you don't want to drive in at night from the airport. Restaurants were really good (cater to Americans; safe but don't eat the ceviche, trust me). The food stores in town are tiny. If you can, stop by a Walmart or big store by the airport. And bring all health supplies you may need (sunscreen, bandaids, medicines like Pepto just in case). Awesome place to learn to surf!! Our family, ages 8-43 all did it! Overall, a great vacation and nice change from our usual resort vacation in Cabo.
The mustiness in the downstairs bedroom was caused by a mattress which someone got wet. It has been replaced. The downstairs is now very comfortable for a family with small children. Both the parents and the children have their own bathroom and each bedroom is air-conditioned.
The small markets in the tourist village are for convenience. In the town, there is a large supermarket which carries absolutely everything including many American products.
The road up the hill to the house is graded three times a year by the residents. The spring grading comes following Easter week.
Luxurious and exotic home away from home
This beautiful house and property has everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable vacation. New professional grade appliances and every kitchen gadget and accessory you could think of makes cooking at home a breeze. The living accommodations are very comfortable and spacious. Tv, cable, super-quick wi-fi, and awesome sound system add to the good times. The lush gardens and outdoor living spaces are what make this property truly special. Plenty of spots for the sun and shade lover to relax outside. Ample area for dining and conversing with loved ones. The gorgeous (and perfectly temperate) pool overlooks an expansive, jaw-dropping view. The lovingly created and maintained gardens are spectacular, immersing the visitor in the natural beauty of Costa Rica. You will see monkeys, geckos, coatis, and probably a few other visitors up-close and personal. Your hosts (The Murrays) and their professional and friendly local staff will make your visit easy and comfortable. Highly recommended, will not disappoint.
