Maunaloa Shores 612 is a retreat that feels like home. Recently redone in a tropical decor accented by original art works, there are comfy armchairs both inside and on the lanai. For writing postcards or computer work on the fast internet, there is a teak and bamboo desk in the Master Bedroom.
Comfort abounds in this classic 2-bedroom, one bath condo. With a California King in one bedroom and a queen sized bed in the other, there is room for four. The sounds of the ocean will soothe you to sleep and prepare you for the following day as you slumber on the pillows. Explore the farmer's market? Tour the botanical gardens? Perhaps the astronomical observatories on Mauna Kea are more to your liking. Or just play in the waves at Carlsmith Beach Park next door? There are so many possibilities that you can't possibly explore them all on one trip. Use the free high-speed wireless Internet to send photos to family and friends back home.
Swimming and snorkeling are just steps away. You have a choice of the on-site swimming pool or take a short walk to Carlsmith Park next door for a dip in the ocean. The lagoons create calm swimming areas and provide protection from the surf. The 4-mile stretch of different swimming coves in this area (called Keaukaha) is a wonderful location to introduce children and newcomers to the ocean. Keep an eye out for our local Hawaiian monk seal 'mama' and her children who sometimes pop up on shore in this neighborhood. Don't disturb them as they are very endangered. Even if they are not in the area, there is a great variety of ocean life to see and enjoy.
The Maunaloa Shores condominium complex has a secured elevator and you have an assigned parking space. You'll find a coin-operated washer/dryer on every floor of the complex for your convenience. There's a pool with plenty of lounge chairs for sunbathing, and swimming and snorkeling is just next door at Carlsmith Park. Don't forget the Seaside Restaurant just across the street either. They grow their own fish in the pond that surrounds the restaurant - you can't get any fresher than that.

Perfect for what we needed.
The unit had everything we needed for a great stay. Quiet location convenient to Hilo. Very cool park next door where we saw a sea turtle. Funky restaurant The Seaside Inn across the street. Although the furnishings are a bit dated it did not detract from their comfort. The unit was very clean and tidy. The whole complex is very safe and secure. Had a great stay.

Great area, near beaches and other places of interest. Ken's and Hilo bay cafe are great places to eat. Beaches and waterfalls are wonderful. Volcanoes park is a must see. Bring bug repellant and anti itch cream.

I did want to mention that A/C isn't advertised on this listing. We would hate for you or future guests to think we would incorrectly advertise an amenity ;-) A/C is not allowed at Maunaloa Shores. Our very mild climate has highs around 82 degrees year round, so A/C really isn't necessary. Out of the 70 properties in our current stable, only one has it. Ceiling fans and open windows are all that are usually needed for perfect temperatures.

Additional information about rental rates
Rates are based on a party of 2; additional guests are are $10 each per night plus tax. There is a cleaning fee of $120. Extended stays require a monthly cleaning fee. All reservations require a non-refundable $35 damage protection plan and Hawaii taxes of 14.416% We accept major credit cards for payment. We require a 25% deposit to confirm, with the balance due 90 days before arrival. Reservations arriving within 90 days are due in full at the time of booking.
