Why The Owner chose Summerland Key

On a visit to Key West, we took a spontaneous look and immediately knew this home was perfect for us. Everyone's first impression is WOW, this is a million dollar view. We call it our piece of paradise and you'll find it extremely difficult to leave.

What makes this house unique

Location, location, location, easy deep water ocean access to both Atlantic and Gulf for the ultimate best in fishing, diving, snorkeling and sightseeing. Harvest lobster and stone crabs in Summerland Cove. Boat ramp on property for kayak, canoe or small boats or nearby public boat ramps for convenient launching. We highly recommend a snorkel trip to Looe Key Reef, only 4miles off shore.

Three months spent in paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I are both retired and spent January through March at this fabulous oceanfront location.

The kitchen is large and modern. It is fully equipped with a great variety of pots, pans, utensils and every kind of gadget imaginable. The entire home is delightfully decorated in a combination of nautical and Key Westy style. My husbands favorite is the huge marble carving of a hammerhead shark that stands in the living room next to the huge full length panoramic sliding glass doors that offer a million dollar view of the ocean with the dolphin often having fun playing so close you have no need to zoom your camera in. The huge overhead shaded and open wrap around deck with its cooling sea breeze is my favorite place to relax with a book or utilize the convenient BBQ gas grill in the evening. Our teenage grandkids, who visited for four days had so much fun fishing off the private dock and kayaking out to the nearby islands, they would have rather stayed a few more days instead of continuing onto Disney World as planned. With Key West only 25 minutes drive to the south or Marathon the same distance north and everything in between, you will never have want of things to do. Jan, the owner, is most friendly and accommodating.

Very nice place for the price would like to have rated as 4.5 stars

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I booked a full week for her birthday and were lucky enough to find that there was a discount at the time so the house was a bargain. We had originally looked at much bigger places (that would have cost twice as much) with the hopes that two other couples would be coming, but those plans fell through and a private getaway was what we really needed so this was perfect. Since Jan's place is oceanfront and a 2 bedroom 2 bath we had extra room that also over looked the water if we had needed it. Both bedrooms and bathrooms were very nice with lots of closet and drawer space, good water pressure, and no problems with anything. Overall the house is nice and there is everything you could need already there (except food of course) the bed is very comfortable, the kitchen and washer dryer were like new and made the trip like being at home. The views are wonderful and the location is a short drive to nice restaurants and Key West. The one limitation that Jan did clarify for me before we booked was the low head clearance to launch a boat from the "on property" boat ramp (.25 star deduction). Due to the fact that our boat is a 25 foot ocean boat with a hard top and a 9ft beam it was too tall and almost to wide to fit under the house so we used a ramp about 3 miles away that only cost $10 for in/out service. The empty trailer's guide posts just made it between the concrete stilts and we were able to park it out of the way under the house. I would love to come down again and explore the outer reefs more as the 45ft to 80ft drop off was a beautiful mini wall that we only found on our last dive day before the weather got bad. There are friendly neighbors, a Winn Dixie on Big Pine, with prices the same as in Orlando, about 10 minutes away, fresh seafood markets, marine flea markets, seafood festivals, and nice sunrise and sunset views. January weather is cool & breezy, the drive time out to the outer reef is very short once you get around to the channel, and you are about 6 miles north of Looe Key when you hit the open water past the last set of channel markers. The price for gas or diesel in Marathon was cheaper than anywhere in South Florida so fill up as you are passing through on the way down. During our week there was road construction to widen US1 underway, the road was never blocked but traffic was diverted a few times and the power blinked off for a few minutes several times (should be completed as of now but .25 star deduction).

Great location and owner

  • 5 of 5

Myself, husband and college age son stayed here for approx a week. We were very pleased with the quiet location. Far enough away from touristy Key West - only 20 minutes - yet close enough for supper, sightseeing, etc. Loved the sunrise and sunset views from the deck. My husband and son caught fish off the dock which we enjoyed for supper. House was very clean on arrival. Jan was extremely responsive to any questions we had regarding recommendations for charter fishing and dining spots. We would definitely stay here again.

Found Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Everything about the listing and owners were accurate, they just did not say how wonderful they and their rental was.... so thats up to me:) So easy to work with, house very clean, totally equipped kitchen, and WHAT VIEWS....neighbors nice and helpful. Easy access to the gulf and right on the Atlantic. Everything you need to make life good is included, its just up to you to have the FUN... We love all the local restaurants, and the relaxed life style. Centrally located key, close to Key West and shopping for daily needs and purchases on Big Pine Key (don't forget the flea market on that key). Can't wait to get back down there and take our friends and family.
