The SUN House is a unique and comfortable vacation rental. It is appropriately named for its warm and sunny location during winter days and summer evenings.

This single-level custom-designed 2700 square-foot ranch style house is located on the northern tip of Shasta Lake. The Sun House is just one-half block to the lake. Antlers and Sugar Loaf boat launches are only a mile away on the local road. See Google Earth location in photos. It features five Bedrooms, large Kitchen, Hot Tub, an 800 square foot deck with cafe lighting, entertainment room with home Theater, a dance floor and a pool table. Designed to be a vacation rental, there are eight outside doors which eliminate any potential congestion for large groups.

The wall mounted flat screen TV has Roku internet TV and satellite Direct TV, including a full sports package for serious sports fans.

Right outside your door there is a 12-mile, round-trip historic Lake tour on a quiet road.

You can enjoy the beauty and wild wilderness of Lake Shasta on a bicycle or walking and driving. For the very serious bikers there are some great mountain bike trails only a half block away from the Pine House.

Enjoy a cool Sacramento River swimming hole with a sandy beach. I will be happy to show you this beautiful location after your check in.

Lake swimming is best from a boat with the summer lake water temperature between 75 to 80 degrees. The local swimming hole, if available is a short five-minute walk. There is also jogging, wild-life watching and black berry-picking close by. My home is surrounded by tall pine for maximum shade and country feel. The back deck has 5 palm trees for additional shade and cooling. There are no mosquitoes.

The Sun House has ample parking at the house for boat trailers and cars.

There are many other available activities in the Shasta I-5 corridor besides Shasta Lake:

Lake and river fly fishing.

Mountain hiking at Castella National Park.

Exploring the historic towns of Dunsmuir and

Mt Shasta.

Tours of the Caverns.

See the water falls at McCloud and Burney.

2016 planned upgrades:

To accommodate large groups or meetings, there is an additional home available next door. These homes can be rented Separately or as a Combo.

The two homes together as a combo can easily accommodate 35. There are walking paths between the homes which provide direct access without going back onto the street. The combo rental has 12 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, almost 6000 square feet of space, three hot tubs, a pool table and ping pong table, two outside eating areas, three gas BBQ and one charcoal BBQ, two laundry rooms, two inside dining rooms including one which accommodates a group of twenty for dinning and meetings. There are 22 outside access exit doors, and four wireless networks capable of serving over 50 guests at one time. There is off-street parking for two boats and 10-12 cars.

Could be cleaner...

There were some really great things and some not so great things about this house. It is an older house and the layout is a little funky but it is spacious. We stayed here with our four teenagers who really enjoyed the pool table and all of the games setup outside. There is a pool table, badminton, volleyball, ladderball and basketball. The hot tub was nice and clean but we didn't end up using it because it was so hot there everyday! There is lake access in the neighborhood and you can drive down to it if you have kayaks you want to drop off. There really are no true beaches on the lake. All of the sides are very steep. The best way to enjoy the lake is on a boat. The one thing I notices right away is the bad smell in the house. It was super stinky. We bought Febreze and sprayed the whole house but it didn't help at all. The towels and bath mats were all older and didn't smell good either. On our fifth day there we woke up to find mouse poo in the kitchen drawers. We contacted the owner who is very friendly and said he is aware of the problem and thought they had it under control. They were going to call an exterminator but they couldn't get there until after we left. I feel like this home could be a really great rental with just a few towels and mats, no mice and a thorough cleaning.

False Advertisment

House was not what I expected but we made it work. Owner, housekeeper/agent met us upon arrival and reviewed the house rules..listed in the contract. House is not yellow- peach color. No grass in back yard. Coffee maker needs to be replaced- it takes about 30 minutes to brew and the top portion get extremely hot to touch. Dishes, silverware, pots were gritty and we washed prior to use, (one pan had dried on food inside). Owner has you put bagged garbage on front steps daily and He picks up garbage due to bears. We experienced a terrible odor (Stench) in the laundry room, Completely unaware that the Owner stores the garbage in garage where wall separating garage/laundry has a short wall with a 2ft gap on top of wall ..rotten garbage stench seeps into Laundry room. We saw him put garbage in garage at end of our stay. Good news we enjoyed the deck and spa. BBQ was a great asset. There is no grass but we enjoyed the backyard games set up- volleyball and net, badminton, horseshoes, ladderball, Lake was gorgeous, we water skied, rafted, swam, kayaked, went to the dam, toured the caverns, walked on Sundial Bridge and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Everything wasn't perfect but they rarely are. Family time is a treasure. I will say though we did look back at prior reviews and one of which stated she was advertised a house that she felt was not the same house...I completely agree with that review, the pictures of this house are very old (the palm trees in the photo that are 2 feet tall with green grass are now 25 feet tall). Just Beware!

New Years Weekend at the Lakehead SunHouse

8 of us stayed New Years weekend at Al's SunHouse in Lakehead Ca. It was perfect for us. Al (owner)& Stephanie(manager) were wonderful. Check in was easy and they were both very quick with inquiries. The house was clean and spacious. It is a casual home that is good for families and laid back groups. The backyard and patio are very nice and in better weather we would have taken more advantage of them. The location is peaceful and close to the river. AL went above and beyond for our group this holiday weekend and we really appreciated his assistance. We would definitely recommend staying at the Sun House or one of Al's properties. Thanks again Al!

The house I thought I selected is not the one I rented. This is the first time I did not have what

The house on end up with is not the house I expected. In the kitchen the dishwasher door could not be lowered as it hit the oven. The stove was so old you could not see the numbers to heat the oven and know what the temperature was . I also paid top dollar for this at $2000.00 for 4 nights. This was not that kind of house for the price. I feel there was inaccurate advertising on this house.

Owner's Response: This guest arrived on Christmas day afternoon. My mistake was not meeting Sandy for check In and continuing our Christmas. It’s always best to meet every guest and explain the operation of my home. This guest was visited twice and called four times. Her only request was the Wi Fi password. There were no complaints. I don’t knowingly rent a home with any problems and always quickly available to solve any problems brought to our attention. Regarding the dishwasher. The door does open to about 2/3 open. This a result in putting a new dish washer in a kitchen built for older dishwasher which had shorter doors. It seemed best to have an operational dishwasher than an older non-working one. When the home was cleaned the washer was full of dishes. Regarding the stove. This is a high quality electric stove with features like down draft venting. Stove top grilling and convection oven. There was recent damage to the controls by a recent guest. Probably a child playing. Regarding the advertising. Please look at many prior positive reviews, My home has had hundreds of happy guests If you are contemplating renting this home please call the owner for any additional questions. Your satisfaction is very important.
