About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, 7 Sleeps, 100% off the GRID!

100% off the grid!!! 2200 sq ft 3+2 Cabin with a loft on 20 Acers, with 3 large view decks and 4 smaller decks. Cabin is off the grid and run by a new generator off of LP. That means that you have to ignite the refrigerator the stove and the fire place to get them to operate since they run off of LP, it also means that if the generator is not running there's no electricity and the well pump isn't running so… There's only one flush after you shut the generator off. If this is not your thing, please do not inquire, there is no electricity and the generator should not run 24/7! Be reasonable and know if you are adventurous enough to stay in an off the grid cabin and the nuances that come along with it. Be prepared to stay in a true off the grid cabin that is very high-end and nice but is not for the faint of heart although we have made many efforts such as battery operated lights at the entrance of the bathrooms and exits of the doors and motion sensor lights outside to help accommodate guests. This is it, catch Walley, and Northern Pike and crappie on Nels Lake road just down the road less than 1/4 mile! There are no homes on this Federally owned lake... best kept secret. Our Home is on 20 acres that abut Federal land, Ok to hunt with your permits, all guns must be registered with the county, easy car access. Come to fish, hunt, canoe, or just bird watch, practice yoga, read or write a book, hike, bike and meditate. Feels like you are secluded yet you are only 13 mile from down town Ely. Our Home is equipped with a gun safe, fishing rods, and canoe. 10% discount for law and peace officers and REI members. Memory foam queen mattresses in master, and the same in a full down stairs, down blankets, down stuffed couch, Persian rugs, blow drier, spices, utensils, plates, pans, dinning table doubles as a number pool /card table! Full size BBQ grill on Deck above the tree line to enjoy your daily catch. There's an additional high end queen and twin blow up mattress for the loft area enables 9/10 guests (that includes children) to stay! Well behaved, crated, house broken dogs are welcome. Canoe on site as well as fishing poles. Come and enjoy the boundary waters there's also no additional cost to use the canoe.

This is our personal second home that we choose to share when not in use by us, our friends or family so it really feels like home.

We have a local Pine Marten that may peak in the window. He is an endangered species and will occasionally peak in the front window . He loves fish, nuts, organic hotdogs as honey!

About Anastasia Schmoll

Married 28 years, Husband is a MN native, Wife is a CA native- She fishes, he hunts- she loves fine arts, antiquities and treasures, he loves simplicity. She's an only child and never leaving California while he's one of many so this is their slice of paradise.

It's a true asylum and reprieve from the fast pace of the city. A place to commune with nature and rekindle with your soul.

Anastasia Schmoll purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Anastasia Schmoll chose Northeast

As a green Broker I valued being surrounded by National Forest and being off the grid. I wanted to be by a lake but didn't want a lake shore spotted with homes every few feet. This property is also elevated above the tree line and provides for excellent bird watching. The firt time I saw a bald eagle in the wild and outside of a zoo it took my breath away.

What makes this cabin unique

There is satisfaction to living off the grid, even if its just for a few days. To know that you are not leaving a carbon foot print on the earth. Yet as such, staying in a home that feels so plush and comfortable that you almost forget you are off the grid.

Amazing stars and quiet

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful visit. Besides backpacking in the wilderness, this is quietest place I've spent a night. The stars were magnificent since there was no other light to be seen. I haven't viewed the Milky Way as well since moving from Montana. The views from the decks were expansive. Bird watching was fun. Bed in master was very comfortable. Generator was easy to turn on the few times we used it. My only suggestion... Having a couple of hot pads available would be helpful.

Beautiful & Secluded

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful cabin, great for a large group, short walk/drive to secluded Nels Lake, fishing poles and canoes for use, so fun! This is the ideal place if you truly want to be out in the woods; we didn't see or hear any signs of human life the whole weekend, it was great! Owner is easy to talk to and responds promptly to emails/texts. It was fun being off the grid!

Echo Trail is the place to be, this is the Cabin in the center of the BWCA and the entrance to it all. Nels Lake is the best kept secret for great fishing. You want to get more rural, you can camp off the shoreline of Nels Lake, The beauty of this lake is that there are no home on it so you can fish and canoe is serious serenity!
