Wow, spectacular views, private hiking trails and amazing outdoor spaces!!

Aptly named after the nearby mountain, Snowball Mountain, this luxury "arts & crafts" bungalow affords great mountain views & a plethora of outdoor activity spaces & hiking on 25+ acres of mountain splendor. (Along with access to public hiking trails directly from the property, including the Blue Ridge Parkway.) Snowball Mountain Hideaway has become one of the most popular homes in our Yonder luxury portfolio, and is quickly becoming one of the most requested! It is not surprising when you put a terrific home together with simply spectacular views, outdoor spaces & amenities.

As for Snowball Mountain Hideaway, this arts & crafts bungalow is located on a 25+ acre mountain estate, near the top of the mountainside. It is truly a mountain "hideaway".

Get ready to be "wowed" by this 2,455 sq. ft. spectacular modern, arts & crafts, contemporary mountain style retreat bungalow. With soaring vistas, high ceilings, vaulted spaces, exposed wood beams, eclectic decor, and hard wood floors, you will immediately feel at home at Snowball Mountain Hideaway. (That is of course if you can tear yourself away from the views, sitting by the fire-pit & soaking in the spectacle of the Blue Ridge Mountains, & actually venture inside!) The great room, with stone fireplace, and fully equipped gourmet kitchen, is where everyone will want to gather to enjoy their time together inside the house. But, if you need some "alone time", there is plenty of space inside and out to find your own serenity. There are 5 outside porches, decks, and patios for ultimate outdoor relaxation. Dogs are WELCOME as well!

Kids love getting out in and around the expansive yard, and walking trails & explore the other rolling outdoor areas. The expansive patio areas are just off the Kitchen/Great Room. & out the side door, and off the main terrace level. All of these afford additional outdoor space to relax & unwind. While everyone enjoys the outdoor trails & more, you can pull up a chair and take in the view, (the long & short range views are spectacular!!), observe the night as it fills with stars, and watch the fire flies come out to play in your backyard.

Take a seat and enjoy the sound of nature and the serenity in your own private paradise at the top of the world. There is also a grassy, flat area for the kids to run around & play! Snowball Mountain offers lots of acreage for nature walks and exploring, and other exercise on the mountain without leaving the property.

You are just minutes from America's favorite scenic byway, The Blue Ridge Parkway, motorcycle touring, biking, hiking, white water rafting, rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, zip lining, Segway tour…just about any outdoor activity! Or, take a quick ride to downtown Asheville to enjoy the first-rate restaurants, shopping, galleries, spas, and entertainment.

There is a community park with a pool just about 4 minutes from Snowball Mountain Hideaway called Big Ivy Community Club, The outdoor pool is open from 12:00 to 6:00 Monday-Saturday and 1:00 to 6:00 on Sunday, and costs $3.00/person, free for ages 3 and under. The park is great w/ free basketball, volleyball, playground.

We look forward to possibly booking your stay, should these accommodations work for you. We can reserve your stay with a credit card and send out a rental agreement to firm everything up when you are ready...but don't delay too long.

It had everything we needed and we really enjoyed the stay. Everything was ready for our arrival and all the amenities were great. Just a note on the driveway - we had a Honda Pilot and had no trouble going up or down the driveway. The other car in our group was a sedan and had a little trouble with ground clearance with some of the bumps.

                                                                  Awesome Cabin in the woods

The cabin was perfect for us and we enjoyed our stay very much. Everything was perfect and everything we needed was provided. We drove to Asheville and picked up groceries at the Fresh Market then stayed in the cabin for the rest of the trip. The Fireplace is woodturning and is amazing. The outdoor fire pit area is also very pleasant. There are a few great/challenging trails on the property and the area is very secluded. Great place to get away yet close enough to enjoy Asheville. Highly recommend and will for sure be back again in the future.

Note. The driveway is steep but not unreasonable at all. After reading one of the previous reviews, I was worried about the drive up to the cabin but was very pleased once we arrived. If you have ever driven on a gravel road then you'll be fine. Stay here! It is truly an amazing place to spend time with family.

                                                                  Jonathan S.Knoxville

Our family rented Snowball for a relaxing escape this Summer; and we were not disappointed. We LOVED it! The home was everything we could have hoped for and made us feel right at home, like it was meant to be ours. We just chilled and relaxed most of the time, reading books in the shade, hanging out by the fire-pit, or hiking around the property. The home is aptly called Snowball Mountain, after the opposing mountain range that you get to view from the cabin.

The home is relatively close to both Asheville & Weaverville, and we visited both. The kids fell in love with the WellBred Bakery in downtown Weaverville.

As stated, there is a long and inclined gravel drive to reach the home, but our front-wheel drive car made it up with no issues during our stay. (Thanks to Yonder for the detailed instructions and assistance prior to our stay.)

The cabin is extremely private, and quiet, with only the sights and sounds of nature all around. We loved our stay and will be back again.

Candidly, we were a bit concerned prior to our arrival after reading the scathing review from Quentin who stayed just prior to our vacation. We spoke with AnnMarie at Yonder, who was gracious in walking us thru Quentin's complaints, and Yonder's side of the story. I am pleased to say that our experience was nothing like that of Quentin's, and I have trouble believing his comments are grounded in anything close to the reality of how nice Snowball Mountain is as a luxury home.

Yes, the gravel road is a "mountain road", but our Honda Odyssey van had no issues with the road, and we do NOT have 4-whell drive. We came and went every day with no trouble. The home does have 3 portable AC units, but we found them more than adequate, and actually opened the windows every night to allow for the cool mountain temps.

The yard is terrific for kids, and they loved running around with our 2 Golden's, and there was plenty of "flat" space for them to enjoy. The kids took the dogs out on the trails every day, and I walked them to the Blue Ridge once, albeit that was a long hike, but still enjoyable.

This is a terrific home, and well equipped and appropriately advertised. Yonder and the owners have done a terrific job and this home is perfect for a family and their dogs.

                                                                  Quentin R.

The experience my family had was awful for several reasons.

Our first discovery was that the gravel road leading up to the house can only be described as perilous. The road becomes gradually more and more steep. Our Honda Odyssey began slipping on the gravel and had trouble maintaining traction, despite being in low gear. Things became worse when the engine began to smoke and smell of burning as we finally reached the top. Keep in mind that we climbed the road on a beautiful summer day when the road was perfectly dry. [The only warning regarding access to this house was one that pertained to snow/ice conditions.] We had no other problem with the van itself during the other 1500 miles of our trip, including ascending several other mountains to the peak. I also do not think that 4-wheel drive would have helped as the problem was not so much with traction as with the severe slope of the drive.

We decided that we would not feel safe traveling with our 4 young children up that hill every day, so we contacted the rental agency. We explained our concerns about the road as well as our concerns about the strain placed on our van, but we were simply told we needed to “just get used to it.” We then decided that we could not safely stay in the house, so we left the next morning and ended up staying the next few nights crammed into a hotel in Asheville. We contacted the agency the morning we left the house about any sort of refund for the cost of the hotel, and both the agency as well as the home owners have refused to refund any portion.

In addition to the serious concerns with the road accessing the house, we found the home itself disappointing and absolutely not worth the excessive rental price. The bedroom with the trundle bed had no a/c and also no fan, which was horribly unpleasant in the summer heat and humidity. The house was uncomfortably warm even with the a/c units (1 was by the front door and 2 in the other bedrooms). The mountain view was only available from a small deck off the upstairs master bedroom, and even then was almost totally obscured by foliage. The master bathroom toilet was totally exposed and offered no privacy at all. The grounds were so sloped as to offer no space for children to play. We would have found the house to be badly overpriced regardless of the issues with the road.

We left feeling we wasted a large sum of money and regret that we did not stay in any of the other many homes available in the area.

                                                                  Owner's Response:

Visiting the lovely mountains of Western North Carolina, and getting to the amazing views and vistas that our fine homes afford requires that you quite literally "drive up the mountain". We cannot afford table-top, flat roads in the mountains; so for some this can be challenging, and on rare occasions "scary" even to some rare folks.

It is unfortunate that some folks feel OK with taking broad liberties with the facts and reinventing a perceived truth.

Yonder takes every guest experience both personally and seriously, and we make it our goal to provide the best vacation experience to everyone that stays. We would never tell a guest, "get used to it"; but instead offer to setup a towing service, shuttle folks to the house, and arrange for a rental car while their van was in the shop.

We will let all the other reviews speak to the voracity of these false claims & concerns for "safety" of their party, and they will spell out clearly that they carry no weight nor based in any sort of reality. The other "issues" are just a diatribe to pile on their own justification.

This home is accessed via a private, inclined gravel road. It is accessed by both EcoClean and Yonder employees on a regular basis in 2-wheel drive vehicles. However, if you are new to the mountains & driving up an inclined gravel road, then carefully review our instructions in our Welcome Book, along with chatting with us for any advice or suggestions. Certainly all-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive would make this access a piece of cake, but they are not required.
