L'Ancienne Magnanerie is a beautiful stone residence with uninterrupted and breathtaking views over the local vineyards and rolling countryside, situated in a sleepy hamlet near Baron, close to Uzès.

This is a unique rental property with boutique hotel style, light and airy with a ‘grown up’ feel. It is perfect for a group of adults looking for a sophisticated and totally relaxing environment, but also offers flexible accommodation for family groups with an additional bed in bedroom 4 if required. Equally, the first floor comprising the main living, kitchen and dining areas and master bedroom suite, with access on all sides to the outdoor spaces, is ideal for just one couple looking for a private luxury holiday home.

The property has been magnificently restored, resulting in a perfect juxtaposition of historic and contemporary features. The tasteful neutral interior décor provides an elegant setting and enhances the calm atmosphere. Indoors, the modern conveniences blend perfectly with the original features, which add their own special charm.

The first floor reception leads into a modern and well equipped dining and kitchen area, which itself is *a chef's paradise! (see additional house notes). The kitchen is divided into 2 areas - the ‘operational’ area for food preparation and general storage, whilst the fabulous professional range oven is situated in the light and airy dining area with views over the pool and vineyards. The house lends itself to food lovers and has in fact hosted a culinary group course and gastronomic events. A private ‘chef à domicile’ can be recommended on request.

The grand uncluttered sitting room with its comfy sofas, high beamed ceilings, picture windows and log burning fire, gives an air of sophistication, overlooked by the mezzanine library - a relaxing space in which to unwind.

The stunning master bedroom with it's vast and luxurious ensuite bath and shower room and separate WC and a further separate Guest washroom and WC and the utility room complete the first floor.

Upstairs are 3 further spacious and well appointed bedrooms and 3 bath/shower rooms. There is a large ensuite bedroom with a kingsize bed (which may be used as twin beds) and a sofa bed which may be used an extra kingsize or single bed. The ensuite bathroom has a bath, separate shower, large washbasin and WC. A 3rd bedroom has a kingsize bed (again convertible to twin beds) and an ensuite shower room. A 4th bedroom has a kingsize bed (convertible to twins). There is a separate shower room and separate WC in the Hallway. Good quality white cotton bed linen and hand, bath and pool towels are provided for all guests.

Outside, the landscaped courtyard and rear relaxation and pool area with summer kitchen are serene and simply stunning!

Indoor/outdoor living is facilitated by the numerous outdoor areas to sit and lounge, eat and drink. The raised outdoor balcony off the dining area is a great place to chill out in the easy chairs, watching over the pool area and vineyards or witness the magnificent sunsets and stargaze under the night sky. There are terraces both at the rear and at the front of the property, furnished with comfortable chairs and occasional tables. Breakfast with the rising sun or enjoy the sunsets over aperitifs. Enjoy a glass of chilled rosé listening to birdsong and the trickle of the fountain overlooking the landscaped courtyard or test out the banquettes and lounging cushions under the stone arches and chill out in the shade.

The pool is surrounded by an extensive sundeck with good quality loungers and parasols, lavender beds and the summer kitchen, with uninterrupted views of the surrounding vineyards. The well equipped summer kitchen with hob, fridge and BBQ and seating around the table for all the guests is a great place for outdoor dining - whether casual daytime or formal evening.

The grounds of the house are enclosed and gated for complete privacy and the rear garden and pool area is raised above the vineyards by several metres, allowing no access, just wonderful views. There is a small car park for several cars.

Nothing has been left out of this house - but if you find there is something missing, the owners or the property manager are usually happy to put that right !

About the area ….

Walk or cycle and enjoy the best of Languedoc vistas direct from your front door, the distant Cevennes to one side and the adjacent vineyards to the other, or relax amongst the aromas of the spring flowered countryside, jasmine and rose. A bread van passes through the hamlet or you can cycle or walk to the local restaurant which doubles up as an occasional boulangerie, epicerie and pizza takeaway!. More shops, supermarkets and provisions can be found a short drive away in Foissac or Montaren, or go to Uzès with a whole array of lovely shops, gastronomic restaurants and a fabulous Saturday morning market.

The house is perfectly located with Uzès on the doorstep and within easy reach are the vast sandy beaches of the Mediterranean, the Côtes du Rhone, the cultural sites of historic significance such as Avignon and the Pont du Gard, and the cosmopolitan towns of Montpelier, Nimes, Orange and Arles or the delightful mediaeval towns of Vézénobres, Aigues Mortes, La Roque-sur-Cèze and St Guilhem-le-Désert (Hérault).

If you can tear yourself away from the tranquility and if you want to explore a little further than the beautiful countryside immediately surrounding the property - at once vineyards and 'garrigues' (natural scrubland covered with fig and olive, oak and plane trees), there is an unending list of attractions and activities in the area:

For food and wine lovers, there is an abundance of gastronomic delights and wine domaines. Visit the numerous 'caves cooperatives' and private cellars and taste the various appellations such as St Gervais, Chusclan, Laudun, Pic St Loup and Regional Côtes du Rhône, Costières de Nimes and Tavel Rosé.

A visit to the region would not be complete without visiting one of the many markets where pallets of local produce are displayed in glorious multicolour with aromas to entice, whilst the numerous fabulous restaurants also make use of the many Specialities of the Region on their menus such as: The Picholine Olive; Uzès Honey; The 'Pelardon' (the traditional goat's cheese of the Cevennes); The Uzège Truffle; Asparagus; Figs; Chestnuts; Camargue Rice; Shellfish. Dishes such as 'Boeuf à la Gardianne' and 'Brandade du Morue' should be tried and savoured!

With consistent sunshine throughout the spring and summer months and a landscape which lends itself to the outdoor lifestyle, the area is a playground for both culture and fun. From the Mont Aigoual, the highest point in the Cevennes, to the fine sands of the Mediterranean, without forgetting the famous Pont du Gard, the Gard offers a wide range of breathtaking sites and a varied and beautiful choice of heritage.

To list all the activities and attractions available to the visitor would take volumes. Whether foodie, sports enthusiast or culture vulture, adults can indulge themselves with the wine and gastronomy; cultural sites and artistic visits (such as the ceramics in Saint Quentin la Poterie); watching the traditional summer festivals with their bull running; adventures on the hiking, cycling, kayaking or climbing and caving routes, swimming or fishing in the rivers; airborne activities such as parachuting, ballooning and micro lighting - or if all that sounds too exhausting - by just simply relaxing !

Leisurely family entertainment can be found lazing the day away on the long sandy beaches or in one of the numerous fun parks such as La Bouscarrasse or Espace Grand Bleu Water Parks near Uzès and La Grande Motte; horse riding and pony trekking at one of the many centres or visit the Haribo museum or the Crocodile farm at Pierrelatte.

There are a number of 9 and 18 hole golf courses around Nimes, Uzès and Montpellier.

Golf de Nimes Campagne Route de St. Gilles. - 18 holes, 6135m Par 72.

Gold de Nimes Vacquerolles 1075 Chemin du Golf 30900 Nîmes

Golf d'Uzès, Pont des Charrettes - 9 holes, 2995m Par 36

La Grande Motte. East of Montpellier on the coast.

Golf de Coulondres, St. Gély du Fesc - 18 holes, 6174m Par 73.

Welcome back to Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We just had the great opportunity to rent the marvelous "l'ancienne Magnanerie" from Jill & Pete again (for the 3rd time now and booking for next year is placed already) - and what can i say ... it just get's better and better, as meanwhile we know all the details of the house to make the stay even more comfortable and relaxing. And i know, that Pete is always surprised, that we leave this paradise only to get some food & drinks and daily items, but it's just like coming home, when you can stay at the pool, with the grill and the covered area (even with TV, so we could watch Roger Federer win in Wimbledon, just another great Detail, thx Pete !).

And you can feel that Pete & Jill also live there when it's not rented out, as everything is in perfect condition and very well maintained.

Although there would be help nearby (Sophie, Cathal ...) you normally don't need anything except when you loose your keys ; ) ...

Already looking forward to our stay next near !!!

A wonderful week in the sun!

  • 5 of 5

This lovely property was perfect for us - two families with teenagers (and one dog) looking for a relaxed, low-key week in the sun. The house was generous enough to allow for everyone to carve out their own space to read, do yoga, swim, play games etc. We made full use of the pool, the very well-equiped kitchen and the outdoor eating area. The courtyard in the back was perfect for an evening 'aperitif'.

Nearby Uzès is a delightful small town and we also explored Nîmes, Avignon and the Pont du Gard, as well as the Cevennes. The kids particularly enjoyed kayaking near Vallon Pont d'Arc.

Thumbs up from us! :)

Who cares about the weather when he can stay in such a beautiful place ; )

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay here after the perfect summer 2015.

Although the weather was not THAT perfect this time we enjoyed the stay very much (even wiht outside TV as a special service from our perfect host Pete to watch the EURO 2016, thx a lot again for that !!)

You can feel that Pete & Jill really love their place as everything is just perfectly maintained and in perfect condition so there's nothing more to do than enjoy & relax.

As the Mistral said hi this year we had some occasions to stay although inside in the very cosy living room, something we missed last year.

And as Bezut is perfectly located for daytrips to Uzès, Arles, Montpelllier, Nîmes, Avignon, Orange and so on you never get bored of this place and region.

We'll be back for sure and thx again to Julie, Jill & Pete for the perfect service over all

A Fabulous Villa

  • 5 of 5

We were an extended family of 5 adults and a 7 year old. We spent one week at the villa, and it was fabulous. The villa is gorgeous with both old world charm and every modern and luxurious convenience. The pool was refreshing on hot days and beautiful with a view of the vineyards beyond. The owner was around when needed and went out of his way to help us with small house issues and suggestions for tours and restaurants. The only thing bad about was too short a stay. Would love to return. The villa was fantastic, and the nearby town of Uzes wonderful to explore.

Lovely, relaxing place

  • 5 of 5

We found our stay here wonderful! Everything was clean and well kept, kitchen well equipped, bedrooms all comfortable. Quiet area with lovely views all around. 15 minute drive to Uzes, a town with great markets and restaurants. Recommend La Table 2 Julien for dinner or lunch, in a small village on the way in to Uzes. Also, Julie set us up with a private chef for one evening for a birthday celebration which was wonderful. Thanks to all for a great vacation!
