Casa Rosa presides over the northwestern corner of Gaia Maya's mountainside paradise, overlooking Lago d'Atitlan and Volcan San Pedro. This versatile Zen-styled home efficiently serves the needs of our daily life-- cooking, cleaning, bathing, and creating and living life to the fullest...
a nest for self-expression that invites the creative juices to flow.
Perfect for one person or a couple, the bedroom is more like a cozy perch tucked into a perfect spot to gaze through the sliding glass windows and enjoy a beautiful view of the lago. The bed is super comfy, both firm and soft at the same time. I have used this multi-purpose area for chilling and hanging with friends, working on my computer, reading, meditating, resting, and composing, writing, singing, and playing music into the wee hours of the night. Really, the multi-functions and adaptable nature of this area is quite impressive!
Casa Rosa offers a moderately equipped kitchen with the great feature of filtered and potable water coming out of the tap. It happily provides for healthy, simple meals with a 4-burner gas stove. Machines are simple but super useful such as the magic bullet which is great for smoothies, sauces and dressings, chopping and blending. The aeropress is a manual expresso machine that pleases even the most discriminating of coffee lovers. There is a little fridge for perishables.
Your front door is off the wooden terrace that overlooks the Lago and volcanoes, framed by hanging flowers. Around its corner, a covered, barefoot-happy walkway leads to a spacious shower area outside the main living space, with a most handy storage area. The shower provides hot running water and a fairly decent shower that actually rinses your soapy hair!
Outdoor gardens are evolving, adding to the many wonderful spots where one can bathe in the peace and beauty of Lago d’Atitlan.
The house is accessible by road on 4 cuerdas (close to an acre) of land that stretch up the mountain and afford awesome vistas from so many vantage points; the mountain mother rises up on the north with sheer power and beauty; to the south, the Lago and volcanoes reflect the shifting light shows from dawn to dusk. In the night, the city lights of San Pedro dance across the waters. The neighbour on the east is Abrazo del Colibri, across the garden, giving ample room for privacy and company at ther samer time.r On the west, our neighbour is a tract of undeveloped land, as well as a couple of rustic homes visible or audible in the distance from time to time.
There are several gardens with herbs, planted veggies, fruit trees and flowers, inviting the loving hands of any avid gardener, depending on the length of your stay. The tree population includes 2 fruit-bearing avocado trees, as well as banana, fig, jocote, cactus, and papaya trees; other trees grace the landscape with white, yellow or purple flowers depending on the time of year.
This beautiful, magical, and versatile space is a home to be with oneself, or to share with others. It is ideal as a creative retreat, as a getaway to a place of beauty, culture and diversity, or as a home base for anyone participating in one of the world-renowned courses and opportunities in our vibrant town of San Marcos. I invite you to experience the tranquility, inspiration, and beauty that I have been graced with in this remarkable place.
