Since Harbor Island is a private gated community with a security team, please carefully review the entire rental agreement before you accept it. There are regulations to protect the wildlife, our pristine shoreline, and the enjoyment of other guests and residents. After you book your rental, I will send you a personalized agreement and ask you to return the 5th page.
Also, because we're a private gated community, there is a gate/parking fee on rental properties. The price varies depending on the number of nights you stay, and VRBO can't calculate the amount accurately. The amounts for 2018 are listed on the 4th page of the sample rental agreement. Therefore, I have put in a nominal $1 per night charge, but I will have to update your quote to the correct amount after you indicate the number of nights you'd like to stay..
Fresh paint and carpet in 2017! Recent bathroom and kitchen cabinets, granite countertops, 42” Flat Screen Living Room TV will allow you to use your Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Target, etc. services and 32” Flat Screen Master Bedroom TV, 2nd bedroom TV, free WiFi with high speed cable internet access, and new heat pump with efficient and quiet heating and cooling. A land-line is provided with free long distance calls to the continental US and Canada.
Fall 2016 updates include new sofa sleeper with inner springs and foam top, new leather recliner, and new drapes in living room and master bedroom. A pass is now included to Hunting Island State Park that will admit your vehicle free of charge no matter how many people are riding with you. All boardwalks have been upgraded and repaired to include handrails.
Harbor Island is close to everything you might want or need, but far enough away to be the relaxing haven you deserve. A new Walmart opened on Lady's Island in May, 2017. Sit quietly overlooking the sparkling pool and watch the ocean just beyond the undulating dunes. The approximate 2 1/2 mile beach is a short skip down the boardwalk and over the dunes to the sandy beach. At low tide, the beach seems to stretch forever.
The island is a sanctuary to several bird and marine life forms. The egrets fly into the island’s lagoons like a descending white cloud, settling in for the evening just above the lurking alligators. Harbor Island is also a sea turtle sanctuary as well as home to dolphins, geckos, horseshoe crabs and many other species.
This comfortable and tastefully furnished, two bedroom, beach front villa has everything you need for the perfect vacation.. Whether you are looking for a quiet relaxing beach to follow dolphins swimming along the shore or an area with many diverse activities, this is your island paradise. The villa is located on the first floor with master bedroom and living room looking out to the ocean and the building's own private pool. In the evening, enjoy the sea breeze on the balcony.
This first floor villa has parking just at the entrance, providing convenience and ease of check in. It is incredibly furnished with a pillow top king-size mattress in the master bedroom, Ethan Allen furniture, flat screen TV, and mirrored door closet. The guest bedroom has a queen-size pillow top mattress, is furnished in rattan, and has its own private bathroom with walk-in shower. As a suite, the guest bedroom closes off from the other living areas. There is also a living room sleeper sofa with queen-size mattress. The balcony features high-back, contoured Tropitone swivel rockers.
Harbor Island is a gated community with about 2 1/2 miles of private beach, a clubhouse with Olympic-size swimming pool, fitness center, clay tennis courts, volleyball, basketball, shuffle board and more. Visit the clubhouse gift shop for a cool drink while looking over the pool and nearby lagoon. Only minutes away, visit Hunting Island State Park. It offers a Nature Conservancy with nature trails and an old historic light house. Nearby Fripp Island has world-class golf courses only minutes away. For the culturally minded, the historic town of Beaufort is only 25 minutes away with entertainment, museums, galleries, shopping, and some of the best restaurants on the southeast coastline. Charleston (1 1/2 hrs.) and Savannah (1 hr.) are both great day trips with incredible history and architecture, and of course shopping for those looking for that special souvenir.

About Gary Rakestraw
I grew up vacationing every year at a South Carolina beach. For my family, it was the ONLY place we would consider going. After graduating from college, I had an opportunity to move to Beaufort, where I thought I'd work for awhile and go on to grad school. After two years, jobs worked out well and I was able to finish a graduate degree right here at USC. That was several decades ago, and I never left! I fell in love with the coast, the history, the charming people, and the balmy climate.

Harbor Haven is my "Happy Place." I think it will be yours, too! I always wanted to own something at the beach, but I'm still very active in work near downtown Beaufort. I'm not yet ready to completely give up my home on Lady's Island. When I starting looking for something to buy, I discovered Harbor Haven was for sale. It has been a popular rental on VRBO since 2001, and it had a perfect 5-star review rating with 40 glowing reviews! Upon closer inspection, I found that it was recently renovated with high-end furnishings and was equipped like no other property I have ever rented myself. The former owners had moved to the state of Washington in 2005, and it was a bit much for them to come twice a year to maintain the property. Currently, it has bookings through October of 2019. Since this villa has been so successful as a rental and enjoyed by so many, I look forward to continuing the tradition of making it available to old friends and new friends who consider Harbor Haven to be their own coastal island retreat.

Fantastic stay beautiful area
From the moment you entered this friendly secured community gate,
you were welcomed with very beautiful scenery. Garys place was
exceptionally clean, and held all 5 of us comfortably! allowing 2 dogs was a big perk!! everything you needed was
provided. / even for the beach which was a quick walk right out front. a fast
ride to hunting island was easy and the free pass was provided. communication with
owner and guest was excellent as well as information on the nearby beautiful town of
Beaufort. great time ... great memories! Thank-you Gary

Clean and Owner friendly
The owner is very helpful and accommodating. He takes pride in his ownership of the condo. The condo was very clean plus plenty cooking utensils. You have everything you need when you first arrive other than the food you require. The area is very friendly. Bella Luna in Frogmore is a great place for breakfast. Just down the road is Johnson's Creek for very good seafood.

Fabulous condo that feels like home .... so many extras touches. Gary was great to work with! Comfortable bedding and furnishings. The kitchen had everything you could need. Full size frig with lots of ice. Extra towels in linen closet and full size washer/dryer. Extra condo keys, Hunting Island pass, beach chairs ..... and the list goes on. Enjoyed the Christmas lights on the porch! It was nice that we could bring our dog with us....there was even a “dog”’water bowl in the kitchen. 5 Star condo!!!

Beaufort County is made up of 64 islands, and Parris Island and Hilton Head Island are probably the most well-known. Harbor Island is a coastal barrier island near Fripp Island, Hunting Island State Park, and St. Helena Island. Since the post office that serves these islands is located on St. Helena Island with a zip code of 29920, that is why the location of the listing may say St. Helena Is. After you cross St. Helena Is. on Hwy. 21, Harbor Is. is just across the Harbor River bridge.

A credit card on file with the owner is requested in lieu of requiring damage insurance in case of need for extra cleaning, missing property, or damage. Since Harbor Island is a private gated community, there is a gate/parking fee of $11.00 PER NIGHT PER CAR for 1-5 nights. 6-7 nights is a TOTAL of $70 PER CAR. 8-14 nights is a total of $80.00 PER CAR. 15-21 nights is a total of $85 PER CAR. 22-30 nights is a total of $90. 31-90 nights is a total of $100 PER CAR. 91-364 nights is a total of $115 PER CAR. This fee is not included in the automatic quote provided by VRBO since it can't calculate the rate for the number of nights you indicate. If I am able to approve your pet, your credit card on file will be charged for any pet damage or need for additional cleaning. Cleaning fee is included for weekly or monthly stays. For stays less than 7 nights, the cleaning fee is $100.
